Basically I would like to know if there's is an actual web page that can be searched for the programs available under yum. I have yumex and I've tried using it but its super slow to search (sometimes it takes 5 minutes) and I would like some webpage or other method of doing a search.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSystem -> Preferences -> Startup Applications -> Options -> Remember Currently-Running Applications I have Skype added to the startup applications list. This works fine. After doing the above, two instances of Skype are starting up every time - and I have not checked the "Automatically remember ... " checkbox. I could not find a way to undo this. After doing the above again, three instances of Skype are starting up every time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made this thread last night~[URL]... Because my Ubuntu failed, and i have no idea why. I hadnt done anything different or risky.. and Ive no idea what to do. So, It appears Im going to have to do a re-install. Which, I really dont mind too much... (especially with Ubuntu) But It will stink if i *again* lose all my bookmarks , and lose track of all my installed programs. The programs, not as much of an issue as the bookmarks in my browser.. I would like to know, If I can somehow access the HDD from the LiveCD, So that I can create just a simple text list of all programs installed on the hdd? I cannot access my HDD except through the LiveCD So is there a way I can do this? Some kind of simple command I can toss into terminal, and have it output me a text file of all programs installed? or something? I really am totally clueless on how I would be able to save my chromium bookmarks.

Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). I do not mean some kind of alarm when the task is due but more a daily reminder of what to do.

I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window,after that i keep taiking the same error

All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThere is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps.When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read.This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.

I understand there is a file that stores the repositories' information, but I can't find it!Is there a way I can create a list of what applications have been installed?The idea is that if I am running a backup, finding a way to save the repository list and applications installed so if I am upgrading, or fixing a borked system by re-installing Fedora, I could copy the repo list back, and run the applications list like ode:yum install <cat apps.txt?> and get all of the applications I've installed via Yum without having to remember them all?Is there anything else, outside of /home, I should look at backing up? Why is it so hard for the developer to compile the package or to make that .deb or .rpm package? I'm sure it's easier for the developer to compile his own program than for a linux user... i don't get this.. why does everything come in source code?
