Software :: Installing Libstdc++-3.4.6-11.i386.rpm On RHEL4 Machine?

Sep 24, 2010

I have downloaded an rpm for libstdc++, libstdc++-3.4.6-11.i386.rpm, from centOS, http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/. On trying to install it, it says unlocatable package libstdc++, required by libstdc++-devel.

How is it that the very package i'm trying to install is dependent on itself. On trying to locate the package the result is as below.

# rpm -q libstdc++
# libstdc++-3.4.3-9.EL4

Ubuntu :: Wrong Architecture 'i386' Error On A 32-bits System?

Jun 16, 2011

I am having a rather odd problem on my Ubuntu 11.04 installation on a 32-bits Intel Core 2 Quad system. When I try to install packages that are not in the repositories, I keep getting the message " Wrong architecture 'i386' " in the Ubuntu Software Center. I have downloaded several packages for 32-bits systems and get the same error every time, for instance., with the Linux 32-bits Debian package for Teamviewer.

In addition to the PC, I have a laptop with an amd64, and I have transfered the pkglist from that machine to my PC to get the same environment. Could that cause any problems of the sort above?

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Find Expected Entry Universal/binary-i386/Packages In Meta-index File

Jan 2, 2010

I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 via 8.10 etc. When I run update manager, I get this:

W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry universal/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

and then it closes. I've unselected all the third party packages and tried various servers, but no difference. I can wget the file, but when I look at it I see entries for "universe/binary-i386/Release", but nothing for "universal" .

Fedora :: Installing Thunderbird 3.0.10 On 12-64 Bits?

Nov 3, 2010

recently the update notifier get me the news that I have to uptdate my Mozilla Thunderbird mail client (now version 3.06) to the newest version 3.0.10. Well, no problem I say to myself and I click in "Install updates" as I usually do. Well, the problem appeared: for this v. of Thunderbird I need the package nss-3.12-8 the update manager somehow does not retireve it and I have the last (not testing version ) of nss-3.12.7-6.

I thought then to install manually and downloading nss-3.12.8-2 from RPMfind and also its dependencies nss-softtkn-3.12.8-1 , nss-softkon-freebl-3.12.8-1 and nss-util-3.12.8-1 (all the versions for my version of fedora 12, and my architecture x86-64). All went well installing the dependencies of nss, but when I tried to install nss-3.12.8-2 I get the following message

Quote:

Errorrs in the proof of transaction: package nss-softokn-3.12.8-1.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than nss-softokn-3.12.7-6.fc12.i686) is already installed
package nss-util-3.12.8-1.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than nss-util-3.12.7-2.fc12.i686) is already installed

Well, in this way I could not get install nss and therefor also can not install the last version of Thunderbird!

?CentOS 5 :: I386 Packages Installed On X86_64 Machine - Typical

Sep 26, 2009

When I installed CentOS on a 64 bit machine, I selected the 64 bit option. However, for some reason it installed many i386 packages - these were exact duplicates of installed x86_64 packages.Is this typical? How do I prevent this on future installs? If I left them installed, could this have caused a problem in the future? Due to my fastidious nature, I used yum extender to uncheck every duplicate i386 package and uninstalled them. This took some time. I am still not proficient with yum directly so I am wondering if there is a command to uninstall all i386 packages quickly.

General :: Upgrade 32 Bits Programs To 64 Bits On Opensuse 11.2

Jan 5, 2010

I'm quite new to linux and I recently (and courageously) upgraded the computer of my work from opensuse 11.0 32bits to opensuse 11.2 64bits.

Well, everything would be quite fine except that I still have some softwares 32 bits that have the 64 bits version available. I know that because, using YaST, I can see by the Installed software section that there are 'choices' of versions for some programs; these versions are 'i586' and 'x86_64', and many of them have the i586 version installed.

So, I wonder if there is some type of auto upgrade all programs which are i586 and have the matching x86_64 avaliable...

Jun 24, 2010

I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.

Debian :: Installing I386 Packages Prompts Removal Of Amd64 Packages

Apr 8, 2015

I am working on a project which targets both 32 and 64 bit architectures at the moment. My system is amd64. I added i386 architecture using this guide. However, my problem is

Code: Select allapt-get install package-name:i386

prompts the removal of currently installed packages (amd64 arch.) which is the problem.

Code: Select allReading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libportaudio0:i386

[Code] ...

Some of the packages I am talking about are

-libegl1-mesa-dev:i386
-libportaudio-dev:i386

Now, as of now, I want to carry out the compilation using 32 bit libraries, however, I really don't want to install 64bit version of all prerequisites each time I switch the compilation from 32 bit to 64. Is there any way to have both architectures at the same time?

OpenSUSE Install :: Installing Machine With No DVD Drive

Jan 7, 2010

I'm trying to install on a machine that has a CD drive but no DVD (and is currently running 10.3). Following the procedure here I created a filesystem on the server and copied the DVD ISO to that. I boot with the network install CD and in the boot options I put in
install=hd:/dev/sda7/openSUSE-11.2-i586.iso
But then I get a red error diag saying
Could not find the openSUSE respository
Activating manual setup program

I go into the manual setup program, select hard disk, sda7, the iso file appears in the "Enter the source directory." dialog so I click OK. It does the "Loading the installation system" (or something, it's quick) and then errors with "No repository found". I have also tried sharing the iso file from a windows server and using network SMB but that didn't work. Tried mounting the install DVD (that I have used successfully before) on the windows machine, sharing it, and point the manual SMB install at that. Everything gives me "No repository found." I could use the Network CD to do an Internet install, but that seems unnecessarily slow and wasteful of bandwidth when I've already downloaded the DVD iso.
