Jan 10, 2010I've bought an RALINK getnet Wireless USB adapter and am trying to get it to work on a dual boot pc running XP and 9.10. According to the forums and the manufacturers website (www.getnet.com.tw), this should be supported in Linux.
Using the disk that came with it, I have gotten it to work in Windows. I've spent nearly a day scouring the Ubuntu forums and trying different things, but still haven't got it working in 9.10. (I think that most of my confusion is that many of the threads are for earlier versions)

I have the CD that has a LINUX directory, but am not sure what to do with it. Through other threads I have determined that my drivers are rt2870.sys and .inf and have downloaded these. I'm not really sure what to do with them next..... Many threads talk about going System>Administration>Networking, but I don't have this as an option. I have however got an option which I downloaded called "Windows Wireless Drivers" which seemed to let me load the rt2870.inf driver, but then says "No" after it (not very helpful).
I have enabled Wireless Networking, and added my SSID etc etc, but I still don't connect.

After I installed it manually it appeared to be correct how-ever when I ttried to enable special effects, and compiz, it didn't work.And even after a correct installation of the driver some windows when they pop up look like static then appear.Graphics card is an:nVidia 6150SE onboard card.I know it can handle compiz, and effects, because it did before on the other version of ubuntu I had.

Aug 9, 2009I have a dedicated server running Centos 5.2. I have a Wordpress MU site that's setup over apache 2, mysql 5, php5, and I use phpmyadmin as well. I'm able to read the database as my website appears perfectly fine, however, I can not write to it. What exactly do I need to install on my Centos sever to allow my site to interface with the database? I've used shared servers and VPS's with no problems but this just won't work. The support team seems clueless and I'm ready to ask them to reinstall my entire OS and everything else again.

both are not working. I have to run the system using: 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5. Upon trying again #yum update it says that no packages are marked for update. Can I manually install the desired kernel? Do you know a reason why yum update is not automatically installing the proper kernel?

Debian :: BCM4312 Wireless Card Installed But Not Working
Jun 4, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 1500 that has a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card installed. I do not have access to a wired connection to the web so any thing I have to install is a download on my windows machine and then transfer that to the debian machine. I just finished installing Debian Squeeze but can not get my wireless card to scan for any networks. I found a tutorial at [URL] and followed the steps there. Finding all the dependances and installing them one by one (took me all day). My wireless card still will not scan for networks. After doing a 'sudo ifconfig eth1 up' it still will not scan for networks.

It looks to me like it just wants to download the wl dirver, again, which I have done in the previous instructions I found. I am a retired UNIX (hp-unix) administrator so I know my way around the system.

I have sound but now longer have the Volume control on the desktop, and when I try to use Skype there is no sound. In Gnome Classic I selected.Applications>Sound and Video>Pulse Audio Volume Control and get this message: Connection to Pulseaudio failed. Autimatic retry in 5s.In this case it is likely because PULSE_SERVER in the Environment/X11 Root Window Properties or default-server in client.conf is misconfigured.

Feb 1, 2011Yesterday I disinstalled with yast java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 (which were installed as part of our sitewide suse 11.3 installation) and replaced them with java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 (et al) to solve my problem about bad graphics quality in firefox applets as described and suggested in this other postl.That successfully solved my applet problem, but I just discovered it triggered a new problem with openoffice . I tried opening an existing sxc document and got this error message:[Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library: file:///usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so.
It looks like that openoffice is still looking into the old openjdk instead of the new sun java. How can I repoint it to use the current java (assuming it really needs it) ? Apparently even entering openoffice on a new document gives error in a popupOpenOffice org requires a JRE to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools-Options-OpenOffice org-Java ... but since openoffice does not start I cannot access those options I guess (or is such stuff located elsewhere, and if so where) ?

Jun 7, 2010I'm using a Dell with Broadcom bcmwl6.inf driver. I tried the guides using ndiswrapper, but they didn't work for me. What worked was simply going to System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers and activating the Broadcom STA proprietary driver. That sounds great, but every time I restart, I have to remove and install the driver from Hardware Drivers.
What should I do to keep the driver loaded and claimed at the start. This is my lshw -C network before and after removing and installing wireless card driver.
