just upgraded to fedora 13 and have a question on a problem with yumex install. have some forms downloaded for fedora 10 but don't seem compatible with 13/ so now how do I get yumex installed and working on 13? don't have internet connextion at home so all installs have to be from install disk or downloads from local library.
I have 3 kernels installed. When I look at my installed kernels with yumex or package kit all I see is the latest kernel. rpm -qa lists them and I was able to remove the oldest using rpm -e.Is this some new feature of YUMEX and package kit to only show the latest version installed?
I just upgraded from Fedora 11 x86_64 to Fedora 13 using the DVD. After rebooting I discovered that none of the launch menu items for OOo are working. But that is probably because I had OOo 3..2.1 installed by downloading it from openoffice.org instead of using the version in the repos. I have "openoffice" listed in some file somewhere (I forgot) to exclude OOo from updates.
So I decided to launch Yumex to make sure that the upgrade didn't overwrite my OOo installation with the version from the repos. But Yumex will not launch. It gives me an error message that there is a problem with the livna repo, and to launch it with yumex -n.
I can launch it with yumex -n, and I can unselect the livna repo, but when I try to launch it later it still fails. Launching again with yumex -n reveals that the livna repo is still selected. I have unselected the livna repo several times, but every time I relaunch Yumex it is still enabled.
I spent a long time in the Debian world and don't know how to delete a repo from the command line on Fedora. Can someone tell me how to nuke the livna repo so I can get Yumex to run?
I have configured for yumex that I want to exclude all *.i386 updates. Still "yum downgrade <anything>" can download and install i386 packages. One other thing which is not purely x86_64 issue, but yum/yumex issue anyway. I noticed that yum updates daemon (yum-updatesd) does not work any more, or at least for x86_64, so I enabled yum_cron with catastrophic consequences. It automatically updated my amarok 1.4 to amarok 2.* although I have an exclude in Yumex for amarok! Here I go again!! I am not sure if I remember how to make 1.4 functional again...
After doing updates a few days ago yumex stopped working. I started getting an error message when I try to run it, "no connected to a network". This is of course not true.
I've looked at yumex.conf and don't see anything wrong, and I downgraded the GTK2 packages from a post indicating a segfault issue with one of those packages.
yum works fine from the command line, so my system is fully updated.
I removed yumex and then reinstalled it with no joy.
I am trying to get Yumextender to work and I get a error window. The traceback is: Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yumexbackend/yum_server.py", line 1314, in dispatcher self.parse_command(args[0], args[1:]) File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yumexbackend/yum_server.py", line 1242, in parse_command self.get_packages(args[0], args[1] File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yumexbackend/yum_server.py", line 71, in newFunc return func(*args, **kwargs) ..... Since upgrading to F15, Software Update has been acting strangely, ie very slow, many times it will report that there are no updates but yumex will show a bunch. One time I even got a double listing of all available updates! I thought that Software Update was just a wrapper around yum....
i have insatlled fedora 9 on a system with xp already installed on it but when i start fedora it hangs while booting. after starting the service ANACORN it hangs and same happens with fedora 10. it hangs while starting CUPS.
Am currently using Fedora 13. Yumex doing something I've never seen before. (I just recently downloaded the Fedora 14 DVD iso file; made a disk (w/Brasero) and tested it (good)).. But, now (I assume it may be connected) Yumex is asking for "Please insert media labelled Fedora 14 #1 ".
See image:
The thing is: Yumex should not even know anything about that.. Yum itself (from the command line) seems to work fine.. Anybody else have this happen?.. I haven't been able to get Yumex to work, now.. Tried removing Yumex and re-installing w/Yum.. That made no difference..Still get the same message, as shown in the image.. Ran "yum repolist" and list looks correct (all fc13).. did "yum clean all": ..made no difference.. (Will up upgrading to Fedora 14 soon, anyway.. but, I kinda would like Yumex to be working correctly, before I do..)
If Compiz works, does that mean 3d is working? In other words I can install and play games in wine. Compiz's website states that it is hardware accelerated and uses OpenGL. Does that mean 3d? I am running FC13 64bit on an HP Pavillion DV7-2185DX. The video card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.
I'm using fedora 13(64 bit system). I had recently installed VLC media player (version:1.0.6). Which installed properly, without any errors, but when I tried to play video files with vlc, its not working. Even when I tried to execute vlc using command prompt it resulted like this.....
My webcam was working when I installed Fedora12. But now it doesn't work after about 2 months of playing with this OS. Because of this, I decided to reinstall it's driver.I downloaded it from ATrpms website, but if I try to install it the terminal says"/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12.x86_64 is needed by uvc-kmdl-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12-0.20090806-4.fc12.x86_64"File needed: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12.x86_64File wanted to be installed: uvc-kmdl-2.6.31.12-174.2.3_1.cubbi_tuxonice.fc12-0.20090806-4.fc12.x86_64
The latest installed kernel stopped working. ( 2.6.35.13-92.fc14.i686) It won't boot. I just get black screen with blinking cursor in top left corner. How do I, or can I, remove and reinstall?
What it does is, if you do something to change anything on the screen, for example, highlighting text, or switching from one tab/menu in an application to another. The screen doesn't show the change. The only way to SEE the change is to do something else to the screen, like grabbing and moving the application around, or scrolling the page of a website, etc. If you don't do that, you won't see what's really on the screen, but rather what WAS on the screen.
Another example:
*) say you have an application open with 3 tabs: tab1, tab2, and tab3. *) Switch from tab1 to tab2 and you see no change on the screen. *) Switch from tab2 to tab3 and you see tab 2 on the screen, NOT tab 3. *) Switch from tab3 to tab 2 and you see tab3 on the screen, and NOT tab2.
Or, if you're typing in this box to make a post, and you hit ctrl+a to select all, you see no change. If you click in the box to deselect all, then it looks like you've selected all text still. The only way to see what's currently on the screen is to scroll the text box or page just a bit, or, if you're using an application, then you'd have to move it around on the screen a bit.
As i've said, the nVidia drivers are installed and working, as well as compiz, etc.

Also, i did BOTH the dracut thing, and the extra kernel paramter in the grub.conf. So, nouveau is blacklisted. Oddly enough though, i do NOT have this problem when using the nouveau driver...
Also, fwiw, i think that i should mention that i'm not using the "Desktop Settings > Enable Desktop Effects" method, because i always seem to have problems with getting certain features to work, like the background for the cube skydome, etc. How i do it is that i install a package called compiz-manager, and i have it set to run at session start. This makes all of the compiz features work fine. One thing that i've noticed though, is that on my other workstation, i haven't set that up yet, and it seems that is is NOT having the same issue. While compiz-manager was running, i tried to use the "desktop settings" method, and it crapped out and reverted back to the old school desktop. I then tried it again, and it reloaded compiz, and there is no screen update issues now. So it seems that you have to have both of them running in order to get all of the compiz options to work, and not have the screen refresh issue?
I am having trouble getting adobe-flash to properly work on fedora. I have done it before but on a different distribution, and i am migrating to fedora. Here is the output and command that i used for installation of adobe-flash (below). I dont know what else could be causing the problem, note: i restarted firefox after installation accordingly. I tired upload the code and the forums system said

I have fedora 11, and installed citrix ica client from the citrix website, but it does not seem to be working. Basically nothing happens instead of launching. I have also installed "terminal server client" (which does work except for the citrix ica connection part of it). In this program when you go to the option "Add connection", then there is an option that says "Citrix ICA connection". It used to be greyed out before I installed the citrix client from the citrix website. Now it is not greyed out but nothing happens when you click on it (also no error messages). I also tried going on the hard drive to '/usr/lib/ICAClient/wfica' and also to "/usr/lib/ICAClient/wfcmgr" and manually trying to launch those executable files but nothing happens there as well.
I just now installed a latest version of Kubuntu on my desktop after the installation it asked me to reboot so ,I restarted my PC but after booting Kubuntu nothing is displayed instead of that a blank screen with mouse pointer and at the top one blue window is coming nothing seems to work.
I generated noarch rpm using alien for rapidsvn tar.gz file. After generating and installation of the rapidsvn rpm it isn't working for CUI or GUI. When I checked for rpm installation status using 'rpm -qa' it is showing as the rpm is installed. But no output of the installation
i really like opensuse because it looks cool, heard it has th ebest kde out there, and seems very professional compard to ubuntu and kubuntu and minti have one problem stopping me from using kde, and its in all versions.i use a pppoe connection, and in gnome i simply right go to edit connections, DSL, make new dsl, enter my information, set to connect automaticcly, go to auto eht0 disable connect automaticcly, boom internet at startup. i cant find out how to make a pppoe connection in opensuse at all in fact.the DSL in internet manager is greyed out.this should be something very simple to do, how do i go about doing it?
I've bought an RALINK getnet Wireless USB adapter and am trying to get it to work on a dual boot pc running XP and 9.10. According to the forums and the manufacturers website (www.getnet.com.tw), this should be supported in Linux.
Using the disk that came with it, I have gotten it to work in Windows. I've spent nearly a day scouring the Ubuntu forums and trying different things, but still haven't got it working in 9.10. (I think that most of my confusion is that many of the threads are for earlier versions)
If I type "iwconfig", I get this:
Code: graeme@graeme-desktop:~$ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
[Code].....
I have the CD that has a LINUX directory, but am not sure what to do with it. Through other threads I have determined that my drivers are rt2870.sys and .inf and have downloaded these. I'm not really sure what to do with them next..... Many threads talk about going System>Administration>Networking, but I don't have this as an option. I have however got an option which I downloaded called "Windows Wireless Drivers" which seemed to let me load the rt2870.inf driver, but then says "No" after it (not very helpful).
I have enabled Wireless Networking, and added my SSID etc etc, but I still don't connect.
Since the last driver error I had posted the thread was starting to drift WELL off the original issue so now I am opening a new thread since it IS a whole different problem in general; So, I was having issues with my driver not being enabled. After I installed it manually it appeared to be correct how-ever when I ttried to enable special effects, and compiz, it didn't work. And even after a correct installation of the driver some windows when they pop up look like static then appear.Graphics card is an:nVidia 6150SE onboard card.I know it can handle compiz, and effects, because it did before on the other version of ubuntu I had.
I am a new user of ubuntu 10.04. I installed the above version to a pc at my work and i 'm trying to make it work with a program we use through explorer (Firefox/Internet Explorer) and uses java. I managed through search to install and use as default java 1.6.0_20 but when i 'm trying to use the tab of the program. It appears a message that says
"Error. Click here for details." Details -> The application failed to run. Details-> [Log File] Java Plug-in 1.6.0_20 Using JRE version 1.6.0_20-b02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
if there is someone who asked the same question, but I have the Ubuntu 10.10 net-book remix version, and every time that I go to try to download and install the Java applet, it will download Ok (I think), but when I try to open the file, there are no errors, but it won't open. When I try to re-download, it does nothing again.
