View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu and after running it for a few days I am having some strange issues. First, I cannot access the Applications men. When I click on the tab it highlights but I do not get a drop down menu. Also, I am being told when I boot up that there is no hard disk space. If I go to places->computer and check hard disk properties I am told that there is 66MB of space (I have a 640MB drive and only Ubuntu is installed). I think I have a virus but I cannot install an antivirus because I "have no disk space" and can't access the terminal through applications.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to install Linux based AntiVirus Server with Windows Clients. As per the existing setup, all Windows machines are using "demo" or "evaluation" copy of antivirus & all antivirus softwares are not same on all windows computers.
Someone is using Trend-Micro ,other is using Avast. Due to above listed problem,i want to implement Linux Based Free AntiVirus Server, which will be connected directly on the internet. The Linux AntiVirus server will updated it's database from Internet automatically.
Inside the Linux Server, all Windows PC's are connected in a same Local Area Connection. All windows XP computers will fetch the updated data from the Anti Virus Server. Also,i am searching MAIL RESPONDER OR POP UP Windows, when any virus found on any client machine. My company needs Cost Effective solution & Linux is the best solution for this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install a antivirus software, which my university provides. After nummerous attempts it works partially, meaning, i can scan my drives, directories and stuff but i can't use the buil-in on-access scanner.
After looking in the manual, i found out, that this seems to be a well known problem for red hat 64 bit distributions and derivatives. For me, using fedora 15 64bit, this means, i have to install the following packages:
glibc-2.11.1-1.i686
nss-softokn-freebl.i686 2.12.4-10.fc12
I was able to find the second one, but i can't find the first one.
The system requirements for ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux are: Red Hat, Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE, Fedora, Mandriva, and most RPM and DEB Linux desktop distributions. Can this be installed on Slackware? I tried the download and install. Its says that after the install you need to reboot and an 'activate' application will start - it didn't. I used ESET in my prior Windows life and it was great so I thought, why not in my linux life!

Is there a way to install KDE without adding the KDE apps to the normal gnome menu ?
Last time I had both installed, the menu ended up being a bit of a mess.
Can't be done but if you have two distros on one computer can you copy install programs from one install to the other to save me downloading the games again they are quite large on my **** weak download limit. One distro is ubuntu 10.04 and the other is mint 9 so there is compatibility between the two
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter downloading a Chrome (for Linux of course) installation package via FireFox. Opening it from Downloads, entering the Administrator password. Then clicking on the " Install Package " button in the " Package Installer " window, I get a message:
"Only one software management tool is allowed to run at the same time, please close the other application 'synaptic', 'aptitude', or 'update manager' first."
I see no evidence of these apps or any others running & I got rid of the Firefox. Are these " Other Apps " hidden somewhere, how do I determine this?
I've just upgraded to 11.04 and loving it but, now I can't add any apps through Ubuntu Software Center. I select an app and then click Install. After that, I get this:
An unhandable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon. The software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks.
Then this window pops up:

Now, when I choose to report the problem, I get another window:

Can I then install the famouse oracle database server and java and eclipse once like it was a harddrive?
Apparently I have to use the "JauntePE Make Portable Apps" to modify existing applications. Is there an easier way?
Are there alternatives to pendrive linux? Do you like them?

Looks to me like libreadline.so.6 is corrupt.
Is there a way I can "update" or reinstall libreadline.so.6 with an uncorrupted version without bricking my OS? I looked into uninstalling libreadline.so.6 from Yast Software Manager (GUI) but it throws all kinds of warnings about how it can't complete operations and it will break links and such....so I'd like to avoid it unless a guru says otherwise.
I tried searching for these two apps but I can't find a 1-click install anyplace? Is it possible to install these two apps w/o a 1 click?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded from v11.0 to v11.2, in fact its still updating the update. I had a number of web apps in folders in my htdocs, whic I cannot access at the moment. They are still there, I just cannot Access them. Has anyone struck the same problem. I know I had this problem about 12 years ago, but being older and senile I cannot remeber what exactly it was. Real important as it contains php scripts which create xml data files for upload to web pages, so would like a quick fix if possible?

I'm going to set up an Ubuntu computer for my family. They asked for it, I didn't push them. But I know that they don't like passwords.
So my plan is to make an admin account which is in the sudoers group and then make induvidual accounts for the users. But I also want them to be able to install apps.
So I wonder if it is possible to set the computer so that they can use the software center. What is the best method to do this? The apps mustn't be installed system-wide.
I was messing around trying to be able to download minecraft to my computer (it's very confusing for Linux, and I know nothing about this system!) Now when I try to install apps in the Software Center I get this error:

I've seen a solution that seemed to work for someone else but when I go into the Terminal and type in the commands it asks for my sudo password and I have no idea what that means/is because I never set any kind of password like that.

View 6 Replies View RelatedNot earth-shattering, I don't suppose, but have noticed that since installing 11.3 (Fresh install, x64, DVD), the "Recently Used" list in the "Start(? Kicker??)" Menu, doesn't save applications through a reboot... ie, if I start Thunderbird, Open Office, whatever while logged in, these will then appear in the "Recently used" section of the menu, but then do a reboot, and the applications area in the recently used menu, will be empty. The "documents" area is fine, and shows stuff after a reboot, but not "applications"....
