I have just installed VirtualBox under F15 and would like to start it from the applications window instead of from a terminal as I am now doing. How do I add it to the applications menu?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed OpenSuse 11.1 alongside of Ubuntu 9.10. After finishing up the installation I find that I can't get into Ubuntu. I have tried adding Ubuntu to the OpenSuse /boo/grub/menu.lst but it doesn't seem to be working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy install of 11.4 (& 12.1) won't load unless I add the X11failsafe option to the loading of 11.4 (& 12.1) in the Grub menu.lst file. They bomb out after resetting the video when booting. I don't need to do this with my 11.3 install. Upon closer inspection 11.3 is using the nouveau nVidia driver, whereas both 11.4 & 12.1 are using the fbdev nVidia driver. My Hardware is a GEForce 6150SE and a Samsung SyncMaster 933SN. I have a couple of questions
1) What do I lose by adding the X11failsafe option in Menu.lst?
2) Can I, should I, replace the fbdev driver with something else. If yes, What? Nouveau?
I am new to XFCE and I'd like to ask few question about usage:
1. How can I disable dragging windows through workspaces? I like them to stay at one.
2. How do you configure startup applications?
3. Why XFCE menu doesn't show some of my custom icons? (png, tried more than one, for custom launcher - eclipse)
4. How do I add custom keyboard? (ALT+SHIFT switching)
5. I restarted laptop and all my applications re-opened after restart. I do not want that. How to disable this?
Adding extra spell check library's in FC 11 Gnome is really easy.
Open gnome terminal.
Su to root or use sudo :
# su
Search with yum to your language:
# yum search hunspell
<snip long output list with different languages>
hunspell-nl.noarch : Dutch hunspell dictionaries
I want the Dutch hunspell dictionary, but you fill out the right language for the language support you want: # yum install hunspell-nl
This will install the dutch hunspell dictionary or the dictionary of your choice. After you installed this dictionary it will be immediately available in gnome apps and Evolution.
get a list of most used apps at the bottom of the application menu. Also documents, why not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have become very restless and irritated while trying to change the icon next to the applications tab on my top panel (I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop). I've tried multiple methods and have had no luck. I've used the Ubuntu Tweak option for changing the icon. It didn't work. I've attempted taking my custom one and changing it in the directory itself but I can't figure out how to change the permissions to allow me to do this.
I've used the terminal to replace the icons but once again I was not given permission. I've spent hours trying and trying to get this to work and I'm stumped. Now to note the problem of this only being for a certain theme. I changed the theme from my custom theme (the one I want to change that icon for) to the Ambiance theme. I opened up Ubuntu Tweak and tried using the simple icon changer button...it worked. I had just d/led updates for it so I switched back to my custom theme to try it and nothing.
Extra:
The custom theme I'm using is this
Controls: snow-leopard-mac (i don't remember where i d/led this)
Colors: N/A
Window Border: Mac4Lin_GTK_Aqua_v1.0
Icons: Mac4Lin_Icons_v1.0
Pointer: Default
i've recently been required to monitor my cpu's temp. for one, i have no idea how to do so, and for another i'd like to do so by continually seeing the temperature displayed on the top menu bar, similarly to how you can setup graphs displaying your cpu use, memory, etc.

I need to boot off an SD card (installed Fedora on it with unetbootin), but my BIOS doesn't recognize it at bootup. I'm thinking Grub might be my only way of doing this. Google shows me ways to do this with Grub 1, but not Grub 2. Anyone know how to add an option for an SD card to the Grub 2 menu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been mostly using XFCE for a long time, but I'm finally giving KDE4 a serious try. Overall I like it pretty well, but there's one thing I like in XFCE that I can't replicate in K: I want to be able to right-click on the desktop to bring up the full apps menu. On XFCE the default behaviour is that right-clicking anywhere on the desktop background (anywhere not on a window, basically) will bring up the full "Start" menu with all the app categories, preferences/settings, etc. (I put "Start" menu above in quotes because I know that's really Windows-specific terminology. So no need to give me crap about that, kids.) Right now, when I right-click on the desktop in K I get a small menu with Konsole, Run, Activities, and Desktop Settings. What I want to happen is a full launcher menu like I have on the panel.

Having a problem with the menu font colour in GTK apps (firefox & thunderbird).
All menus in all other apps have the correct font colour (black) but as you can see in this screenshot the font colour is white for thunderbird.
The only way I can find to change the text to black is to change in Configure Desktop > Appearance > Colours The setting for "selected text" to black.
Now I could be wrong - but I am pretty sure this should not be the setting that effects the menu colour in GTK apps.
Here are the colour settings I presently have
how to correct this? Did not have this issue in 11.2
Using QTCurve window style Have also set GTK Style and Fonts to use QTcurve and KDE font settings.
I do remember QTCurve in Opensuse had a button to apply its settings to KDE3 & GTK apps but this is not present in the QTCurve version on 11.3
I'm using Linux Mint 8 Helena, and from time to time keep installing apps from synaptic.= However, many times the apps I install do not appear in the Main Menu. View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Win7 on a 2-disk RAID0 fakeraid. I then unplugged those drives and installed linux mint on a separate drive. I did it this way because if I left the drives plugged in, linux would jack up the fakeraid for those drives and make windows upbootable, and installing linux to the fakeraid itself is just too much of a PITA. So basically, this is the disk configuration, and there's no chance of me changing it.
Right now, I can boot into either win7 or mint by pressing F12 for the boot menu, and then selecting the drive the os is installed on. It would be nice if I could just add an entry to the grub menu for win7. I've used the menu.lst file before, but apparently all that has changed with grub2. I've checked out some of the grub2 docs and poked around in /etc/grub.d, but frankly, it seems to be orders of magnitude more complicated than it should be.
So I just installed OpenSUSE along side Fedora11 and it appears the SUSE grub simply removed Fedora from the menu.lst instead of adding to it... what exactly do I need to put to get it back into the list? My Fedora resides on sdb8 on my partition setup.
