Security :: Install Based AntiVirus Server With Windows Clients?
Apr 1, 2010
I would like to install Linux based AntiVirus Server with Windows Clients. As per the existing setup, all Windows machines are using "demo" or "evaluation" copy of antivirus & all antivirus softwares are not same on all windows computers.
Someone is using Trend-Micro ,other is using Avast. Due to above listed problem,i want to implement Linux Based Free AntiVirus Server,which will be connected directly on the internet. The Linux AntiVirus server will updated it's database from Internet automatically.
Inside the Linux Server,all Windows PC's are connected in a same Local Area Connection. All windows XP computers will fetch the updated data from the Anti Virus Server. Also,i am searching MAIL RESPONDER OR POP UP Windows,when any virus found on any client machine. My company needs Cost Effective solution & Linux is the best solution for this.

I would like to use my Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic system to scan and clean viruses from Windows based HDD. I have KlamAV, AVG, and AVAST. I couldn't get F-prot to work. I don't find a debian package of it and don't know how to install tar.gz and the tutorials don't help a lot. Are there other antivirus solutions which are good for cleaning Windows OS but work on Linux/WINE? I wonder if I can install antivirus software in WINE and scan with no problem the hard disks.

Using CentOS 5.5, FreeRADIUS 2.1.7.
Objective is simply to be able to allow wireless clients access to my network based on their MAC address (I have about 10 WAPs around the country which I need to be able to manage user access centrally). Not interested in LDAP or dishing out keys/certificates etc.
I have been trying to follow the guide here. Sounds like it's exactly what I need but I'm not sure about a few things.
1) For each of the conf files am I supposed to be replacing everything currently existing in the respective file with what is suggested?
2) "raddb/modules/file" does not exist, so I assume I should use "raddb/modules/files"?
3) If I uncomment the line:
Code:
#rewrite_calling_station_id
under the "raddb/sites-available/default authorize{}" section, the radiusd startup gives me the following error:
/etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default[69]: Failed to find module "rewrite_calling_station_id".
If anyone familiar with FreeRADIUS 2 could answer these queries I might be on the right path

I work for a church, with office staff of about 10 people.
We want to set-up a server to store all the office information, (which is now scattered all over the place).
The idea is to give individuals a partition on the server(password protected). There is database software that needs to be accessed by 5 people( it runs on MS Access). Most of the document are MS Word. Of course you can tell me of a better way to do this than my idea.
how to set-up this network. I have to submit my info to church leadership. it will save us buy Window Server and 10 CAL (that ZAR 10k).
I have copies of OpenSuse 10.1 and Fedora 11.

I have a network consisting mostly of Windows Vista and 7 clients and an Ubuntu server. The server provides both the DHCP and NTP services through dhcp3-server and openntpd. In my dhcpd.conf, the subnet is declared as follows:
subnet 10.10.10.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.200;
option broadcast-address 10.10.10.255;
option routers 10.10.10.1;
option ntp-servers 10.10.10.1;
The clients don't seem to be using the NTP server though. When I capture the network traffic with Wireshark during the DHCP process, I also see no mention of the NTP option in the DHCP offer message. I am not quite sure if the clients would have to specifically request that option to receive it or if I have to make another configuration to offer the option.

I have setup openldap and samba for authenticating Windows and Linux clients on my server. They are working fine. Windows users are getting authenticated through server as Primary Domain Controller and Linux clients directly from Openldap directory. But I have little problem that is I want to mount home folders created on server to be available on clients so clients get a centralized storage with some quota on both Linux and Windows clients. Can you help me please how can I do that.

I'm trying to give some windows users a permanent connection to a samba share behind a firewall over the public Internet. I know I can give them access with something like winscp (which they have done) but really I'd like to do it with a VPN so it seems seamless to the user. However I have no idea how to set up the server to support this and am finding the documentation a bit confusing. The samba share is on a Debian box and the firwewall is a Linksys WRT54GL.

I read some articles about viruses in Linux and about some antiviruses which work in Linux and delete Windows viruses but I still don't understand: is there any antivirus which specializes in Linux viruses? Even though there are very little of Linux viruses, I know.

I know that this is a linux forum, but I need to tap the brains of folks that have experience in this filed. My wife is the assistent IT director of a large community college in Pittsburgh, PA. They are running 4000-5000 client PC's. between the labs a nd faculty, across multiple campuses. They are rolling out Win 7 64 bit across all machines. They have 1/2 the PC's on Forefront and 1/2 on TrendMicro. They want to re-evaluate the AV solution, and are unable to find any decent review or tests for Enterprise level AV/spyware/malware solutions.

Recently I had a Java exploit on Windows. Luckily Microsoft Security Essentials identified and removed it. Such things can happen on Linux as well, from what I've heard. Why does Linux offer no such detection?

Been searching around for a few days. So far I have found three previous topics on this and all of them are useless/out of date. I'm trying to install [URL]... I've tried making it from the binary on the site and I get a bunch of errors when I try to "make" it. I've attached the output from make. Anyone know how to get this to work? I found a tutorial that said you had to find the .module files and remove all the "-e"s but I cannot find any .module files.

I am trying to install either Ubuntu or CentOS server in text mode only. The problem I am having is that the hardware that I am trying to install it on has no vga output, I can only connect to it via console cable. I am able to boot from USB CDROm or flash drive but unfortunately since the hardware does not have a gpu (atleast none that I'm aware of) I am unable to get past the boot screen. If someone can point me in the right direction or know where I would be able to download the text install of either OS, that would be awesome.

I have a running proxy server that I wish to also turn into a VPN server.The VPN is not used so much that a user can access the network but is used so that they can obtain a geo specific IP address for their applications (the proxy server only does this for HTTP).I would therefore like to block off the VPN from accessing any of my Linux box's ports such as email, web server etc.Clients are given local IPs of 172.16.0.x.What should I take into consideration to block off clients from accessing dangerous stuff on the network?
