I installed Apache server with Debian 5.0.2 Lenny. I am trying to write a script which would analysis web log files. I found the log files on /var/log/apache2. There is an access log file, `access.log`. My question is what configuration file determines the location and the name of the access log file. How can I change them? I used CustomLog in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf like below.LogFormat ": %h %l %u %t "%r" %>s %b" common
CustomLog /home/test/my_log_file common Apache2 generated /home/test/my_log_file. But no logs were written in the file even after I run `/etc/init.d/apache2 restart`. Ichanged the log file location. It still didn't work. However, Apache2 still wrote logs in the file `/var/log/apache2/access.log`
I want to change the DocumentRoot on my Apache httpd server.
I have Changed it from the default to var/www/projects
but its not working.

I am now using CentOS5 as the server providing Apache services. I have managed to setup the web page under /home/user1/public_html, now I wish to change the default web page of our server to /home/user1/public_html. i tried to modify httpd.conf, in which i changed the "/var/www/" to the above user directory, but didnot work. Please kindly suggest.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI suspect that this has come up numerous times, but I am new to Linux and I am setting up a new in-house server using Ubuntu 9.04 and Apache, etc. I can see the welcoming "It Works!" message when I log in via Firefox. I can see "index.html" when I FTP the server with the site name and password at /var/www. I can also see the -rw-r-r-- attributes, but I can't edit the HTML file or replace it. When I try to rename the "index.html" file.
I get the following message: "Request denied. Verify that the file or folder exists and that you have the necessary permissions on the server to perform the requested operation."
I haven't been able to determine where to enter the password or what changes I need to make to be able to work with the /var/www directory via FTP.
I've been trying to make install apache 2.1.8 and php 5.2.3 and work on them. After updating and installing some dependence files, apache and php could both be installed.
Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:
Code:
Then I run /path/to/apachectl start, and saw the message:
Quote:
Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
Then I remembered that I didn't include the rewrite module while making install apache. So I removed the 2 lines I just added to httpd.conf.
But, after running /path/to/apachectl stop and start again, I could still see:
Code:
When I use firefox to open http://host_ip:8080/, I could see "It works!". But when I open http://host_ip:8080/hello.php (the file is already under htdocs), firefox said
Quote:
Failed to Connect
Why and how to solve it?
I noticed that for some stupid reason, the conf file wasn't updated at all and the 2 erroneous lines were still there.
I have a server hacked when i try to log in i type root but won't let me type a passwdthere are no services up, can't see page mail nothing

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?
i was trying to follow a guid about how to change the icon for a specified file type (in my case .c,.h,.asm,cpp) , and that by adding the icon png to the /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes/text-x-csrc.png
after following the procedure the icons for all .c files have changed but not in the file manager icon view
only in List view as you can see from the screenshot
so how can i set those icons?
How do we go about changing the login page so that it is not a drop down listing all the users? I'm looking to configure the login to be like how RHEL 5 and below is. Where you have to type in the account name, then it prompts for the password. I don't want the system to show a user history.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Markdown to store all of my source documents. Unfortunately, the .md extension maps to application/x-genesis-rom under Ubuntu. I'm not sure why that would be a system default MIME type, but I'd like to change it.
I've tried using:
Code:
gksu assogiate
to modify my file type cache. Unfortunately, even as the SU, I can't modify the entry for this file type. The "Remove" button is inactivated for the entry. (See attachment.)
How can I get rid of this (obsolete?) file association? Alternatively, how can I make my new one (text/x-markdown) take precedence?
I have presently a (working) boot dedicated partition, where grub stuff resides, but I want to change it to a common "/boot" folder in the root partition (in a different hdd). For some reason I can't do it. The first thing I did was to copy all the things that are in the boot partition to a boot folder on the root partition. After that, I tried: grub-install /dev/hdc1 (which is odd but it's where the root partition actually is)
When I did it from the linux I have installed on my hdd, it actually did something, I don't remember all the output (except that there was something about it not being able to access hda, which is oddly the dvdrom), but it didn't work. From a live CD, the same command (grub-install /dev/hdc1) is answered with: Could not find device for /boot: Not found or not a block device. From grub's own prompt, the things are more or less the same. First of all, it does not find stage1, even though I did copy the content from the boot partition to a boot folder in the root partition.
I tried to proceed, anyway, with root (hd1,0) and setup (hd1,0) (which is /dev/hdc1, according with the "geometry" info given by grub). "Root" is accepted, but "setup" is answered with: Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Checking if "/grub/stage1" exists... no Error 2: Bad file or directory type But the files are there. I can't "cat" the menu.lst from grub though, unlike with the actual working boot partition. The same error message. From the terminal, however, it's all there. I tried with /dev/hdc1 both mounted and unmounted, the same message. So, basically I have two questions, I guess:
1 - can I really do this sort of thing running a linux installed on a hdd, rather than a live cd, or is the live cd preferable for some reason?
2 - what am I missing?
(A note that may worth making is that I'm using the soon-to-be deprecated grub version, 0.9 or something, not grub2. I think it shouldn't be a problem since I've installed the system with the old version to begin with, but that may be irrelevant, I don't really know)
