this is really annoying, my config file at /etc/apache2/apache2.conf is as follows (it is mainly the original with a few commented changes)
Code: # # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
I'm trying to make a reference to a second hard drive that is not part of the main file system, so I changed all the references to /var/www to /media/HD1/www and I have set the permissions on the entire hard drive to allow reading, and I still get a 403 forbidden error when I attempt to access my site, everything works when I just use the default path. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with apache2 installed through the package manager...
but ive two problems. 1st: The first is how do i change the default page on load up of localhost.eg when i enter the http://localhost/ i get the usual it works symbol.this is because its loading the index.html file in my var/www/ folder.i dont want too create another index file, but how do i change the configuration too load up a different one like home.html2nd: i tried installing sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin and for the most part it worked.but nothign comes up when i go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/
I am now using CentOS5 as the server providing Apache services. I have managed to setup the web page under /home/user1/public_html, now I wish to change the default web page of our server to /home/user1/public_html. i tried to modify httpd.conf, in which i changed the "/var/www/" to the above user directory, but didnot work. Please kindly suggest.
I have Fedora 12. I just wanted to know that for demonstrating a DNS mechanism between clients and a host, how to establish a domain ? Do I have to configure an Apache server ?
i have several sites hosted on one machine (Apache 2.2 on Debian). They are configured at /etc/apache2/sites-available/ with this configuration (part of it):
I am trying to figure this out and it seems I can't So, I have a server which hosts various domains, each domain with multiple subdomains. All websites are set up with "VirtualHost" and they all work properly. The problem I'm having is that if I enter any subdomain of the main domain, I can still reach the webpage. Is there some way of telling apache to DROP / display a forbidden message for all subdomains which are not listed in the VirtualHosts?
I have a domain, dns hosted, and apache serving up pages. this all works fine, so far. i even have a cms running. my confusion starts when i try to host a different site under a subdomain, ie. sub.mydomain.com.i have two vhosts in apache. one is mydomain.com and the directory is /var/www/mydomain.but, when i try to add another vhost like webmail.mydomain.com, and i try to put the root directory in /var/www/webmail, it doesn't work. when i try to access webmail.mydomain.com, i just get the site on mydomain.com.I feel like i am just missing something really simple here, but i have tried searching around for solutions to no avail.
So first thing's first, is I'm a bit rusty when it comes back to CentOS. I've been running FreeBSD for a while, but a friend running CentOS just asked me to help him with apache. Apache is something I run and configure in my sleep, but this has really stumped me. His server [URL].. will point you to the IP address, instead of the domain name?? When you first go to the page, it will say "Please wait while we redirect you I changed that over to a <?php header("Location: ?> redirect, to better suit his server and make it look nicer. The problem is the html file with the Please wait message is still there, after I've deleted it out of /var/www/html/, and replaced it with index.php
So I dug through his configuration, and made the virtualhost for his domain, again with no avail. I really don't want to post my full config file, but if it's necessary, let me know.
I joined my computer to a Samba directory and I would like to have that domain as default in the login screen rather than <LOCAL> but I cannot figure how to do it.
I have the lastest version of ubuntu server up and running along with a website shopping script working perfectly. Now I need to change the url in the address bar so that it stops displaying my ip address and shows instead my choice of domain name for whatever page has been opened. I have a number of domains available and each are redirecting traffic to my home server, but the address bar url alters to my ip address whichever I use. How then do I go about this change? Obviously this is to do with dns resolving stuff which I have no experience of. Can someone put down in as few steps as possible what I need to do?
I try to change the TLL of a domain name. I changed the file zone of the domain name. My new TTL is ok on Windows XP but on Vista/Seven it's always the default TTL (24hoo)... The DNS propagation is already Ok. I don't know why Vista/Seven joke with me.Can you help me?
There is a site that I visit so often that it's domain ends with (.org) and when I go there I write the name and press (ctrl+shift+enter) but sometimes I press (ctrl+enter) and it takes me to a site that I hate so is there a way to make firefox when I write [url] take me to [url].
I really need someones help regarding transfering my current domain name that is registered with Linux to a new server? I have just built a new website and would like to transfer my register domain name over to my new website. I have redirected it but want to make transfer it competely. Where do I do it, I have looked everywhere in CPanel but no luck
1. I have two domains domain1.com and domain2.com on my centos server.
2. In a file in domain1.com I am writing the php function
chdir('/var/www/vhosts/domain2.com/httpdocs'); but it is not working at the same time if I am trying to change the directory to one of the subdirectory in domain1.com than it is working means chdir('/var/www/vhosts/domain1.com/httpdocs/css'); is working.
3. The problem is I cant able to change the directory from domain1.com to domain2.com. /var/www/vhosts/domain1.com/httpdocs => /var/www/vhosts/domain2.com/httpdocs is not working
Is it some permission issue or anything else ? Is it something related to chroot jail or what?
This is probably a pretty basic question seeing as I'm pretty new to Ubuntu Server. I'm running a simple website from my Ubuntu Server machine with The files are all stored in /var/www/ and then subdirectories. The problem is that when I add files through FTP I need to go and change all of the file permissions since by default they do not have read access so can't be accessed through a web browser on another machine. How can I make the default permissions readable for the directory and all new files that will be moved in it

How do I define the default virtual host to be served on port 80?
I have different configuration files in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ that look more or less like this:
Plus I have the namevirtualhost:80 in httpd.conf
For some reason if I connect to port 80 using the IP address or an alias not defined anywhere in apache config, the first domain configured (first alphabetically a-to-z) answers the call.
Is there any way to overwride this and set a default site?
Basically I'd like to answer with the right configuration if a precise site pre-configured is called on port 80, but if not I would like to redirect to a "default site"
How can I change Personal Settings language for window domain user? For local user and root user, I can change my language and from personal setting and it works fine for me.
I had qmail installed using squirrelmail as the webmail. At first I can send email to any destination. After I have changed the domain, I am getting this error: ERROR: Message not sent. Server replied: Requested action aborted: error in processing. 451 Temporary local problem - please try later.
I have apache installed and I have it all setup so that when I create a user, in their home directory i created a folder called public_html and then that user can upload web content. Users then can browse to their site by going to[URL],,.How can I get apache to show a different or default page if the user does not have a index.html file in their public_html folder. Cause if they dont, you get a 401 saying you dont have permissions to view, etc. So id like apache to default to something else if the user doesnt have a index.html.
i have installed fedora 11..when iam opening my apache default test page using http://localhost its opening but when iam trying to open the same using my ip address i.e. http://172.31.73.4 its not opening..instead iam gettin an error message like this in firefox
ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved....While trying to retrieve the URL: http://172.31.73.4/can anyone tell me whats the problem because till now i was using fedora 8 and while using apache i never got this sort of problem..
I've set up Apache once or twice in the past, but my memory is escaping me on something simple. This time the OS is Cent5 with Apache/2.2.3
When a user browses to: [url] <nothing else> I get as expected, a '403 'You don't have permission to access' because directory browsing is off for obvious reasons :-) If I enter the full URL to the script: [url]it works as expected. No issues there.
What I would *like* to do (and I'm sure I've done this before) is to set the cgi-bin up so if someone leaves off the script name: http://host.name/cgi-bin/ it serves "index.cgi" pretty much in the same way that if you browse to the root http directory, you index.html||php would normally serve. I just can't remember how to achieve this simple thing and I'm starting to wonder 'am I mad? - Did I do this before?'.
Sanity check - index.cgi exists and runs if you call it directly thus:
Code:
I have added:
Code:
That made no difference.
Tried:
Code:
For good measure, but that made no difference - and even
Code:
and no amount of playing with 'Options Indexes || -Indexes || +Indexes' helped me.
Like I say, I'm sure I've done it before (on Debian/Ubuntu) without the need to start playing with redirects or .htaccess - but I'll be blowed if I can remember how.
I want to upgrade Apache, PHP, and MySql from a default version I'm having in my installed Slackware. What is the proper step to do this? Will it cause some problem if I upgrade them?
I've created a virtual host and when I try to access it it displays the root of the Default Server. Running Fedora 11. This works fine in our Fedora 8, same configuration.
192.168.0.200 Default server is set to Listen 80 virtual server
