View 3 RepliesI've just installed Fedora 14 64bit and would like to add new repositories. I read here to do the following command (which as you can see doesn't works) :
Code:
$ su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'

I have installed F14 yesterday but i can not install rpmfusion repository, the problem is that i can not access the url [URL] so i cant download the files:
rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
I have a 160GB harddrive which I installed a F12, would like to upgrade to a bigger drive, but I hate to have to re-install everything.
Recommend a good disk copy utility? The utility should be able to not only copy files, but boot sector and everything. So I just need to make a copy, change my BIOS to boot from the new drive and run everything as before.
Was wondering if anyone can explain briefly the relationship of "cache" and free memory in the "free" memory command.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.

Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful. But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team, how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.
I posted here and there, and seems like no answer, and I do not get any reply from UBUNTU support team, forgive me if I run out of google's keywords.I just need a simple answer, is my WIFI going to work in UBUNTU with a layman effort? I like linux and UBUNTU had put great effort in providing me such a great OS, but if a basic internet connection will need to spent sooo much time to setup, and it still doesn't work. IS IT WORTH to switch to UBUNTU at all

View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay so i have switched over from Ubuntu to Fedora13 as Ubuntu has constant hard-lock-ups for me for 3 versions straight now. Using fedora for less than a day and it's working smoothly, customised my look a bit and all that too.Only problem is F13 uses xorg1.8 and ATi's current drivers only support 1.7 and below, is there any way to get it to work with 1.8 by tricking it somehow?

I just wanted to post this really quick. I just installed Fedora 12 and I have been playing around with it a bit. (it's my first taste of Linux) I noticed right off the bat that I needed an MP3 decoder and was having a hard time finding one. Then I found a free Legal mp3 decoder at the following address. They also offer a Fedora specific installer (.rpm) So if anybody needs a decoder, here is a good one.Since it's a free decoder I was wondering if it might be included in future Fedora releases?

I am using Xephyr to create a windowed session for logging in as another user. It needs its own X display, though. Obviously I can just give it :1.0 and hope for the best, that it would be better to identify the first free display and use that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen we have Oracle 10g in RedHat, the free memory goes down soon after bootup of the system and never increases. I learnt from various forums that Linux does cache the disk files for the better performance. And when any application requires memory they get the memory and the caching does not block any memory. We want to capture the free memory available for one the harware planning activity.
1) When we use vmstat command, it gives very less free memory. since it caches large size files, the free memory is very low.
2) We tried free command, but how do we know how much actual free memory is available. i.e. excluding the cache usage
I have successfully added the Livna repository to my Fedora 13 using the following command
yum --nogpgcheck install [URL]
but I can not add add the rpmfusion repository with an apparently identical command
yum --nogpgcheck install [URL]
This is the result:
[root@euclide fcc]# yum --nogpgcheck install http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit

Cannot open: http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm. Skipping.

I have read a similar thread in this forum, but I have not understood a single line of that discussion.
I installed Fedora 11 about a week ago. And all was going well until I woke up this morning, and started using it for a little bit. I noticed it was going painfully slow... (almost like Windows Vista >.<) and I started to look for a reason why. Turns out my free space in my filesystem is running out. I have a 500g hard drive, and for some reason my filesystem is only set to use 9gigs...
Why can I only use 9 gigs of my hard drive? And how can I increase that size to something less annoying so I don't have to delete stuff every few days? Also, I'm kinda new to Linux. So if this is a newb question, and you can link me somewhere to get the information, please do. I just spent an hour or so searching google, and using this forums search to no avail.
I recently did a fresh install of FC12. When installing, I selected the option to completely format the HDD and use entire disk space. Apparently I was so excited everything worked perfect (upgraded from Fc10), until I started to copy videos and it said there isn't enough disk space.
So I downloaded gparted and here's what it shows..
/dev/sbd (698.64 GiB)
/dev/sdb1 - (File system) ext4 - (Mount point) /boot - (size) 200.00MiB - (used) 43.50MiB -(unused) 156.50MiB - (Flags) boot
