Software :: Firefox Not To Use A Proxy - Cannot Connect To The Internet

I run Fedora 14. I use Firefox. Because I live in China, I have a VPN service from [URL] Their software has configured Firefox to use a proxy. I do not start Astrill on boot. If I start Firefox first, I cannot connect to the internet. how to tell Firefox not to use a proxy? Today, Astrill was down or unavailable or whatever, and I could not reach the internet. I have looked in Edit-Preferences but I cannot see a tab 'configure proxy'

I am new to ubuntu,
my network connection is using a proxy, I have edited the FireFox preferences and set the proxy connection parameters, and could connect to the Internet,
But not via the Terminal,
when I am using the command : wget http://......the link I am trying to download....
I got an error, as the Terminal can not connect via the proxy, in another word to use the proxy parameters.he proxy !

I use Fedora 14 and Firefox as my web browser. I use Astrill VPN service. I have the following persistent problem: I start my computer. Astrill is not set to start on boot. I start Firefox. Firefox can not connect to anything, it says 'proxy server refusing connections'. I go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Network>Settings I click the radio button 'no proxy'. The problem remains. I am completely unable to connect to the net. Even on reboot, I cannot connect. On reboot, Firefox is set to use a proxy, although it was not on shutdown. Some init script is setting this. My normal connection is often faster than through Astrill, so I only really need to use it when I want to get at a website that is blocked by the govt here in China.
where Firefox is being told to use a proxy, and how to reset it to not use a proxy, assuming Astrill is not active. There must be something left in a .conf file somewhere which is overriding the settings in Edit>Preferences. Because, if I set it now to 'no proxy', I cannot connect to the net.

I am unable to connect to the Internet in lucid via a proxy server using apt-get or synaptic. Opera & firefox connects to the internet fine with the proxy setting.
I have tried the following solutions:
1) set proxy setting using systems|preferences|network proxy
2) editing ~/.bashrc & /etc/.bashrc
3) creating a /etc/apt/apt.conf file.
4) putting the proxy setting in synaptic
For the proxy setting I have used the both the verbose name as well as the ip address. There is no logon requirements for the proxy server. Either formats work in the browsers.

I've been doing some security testing in a lab environment that does not have direct internet access. From home to connect to my lab machine, I
1. SSH to machineA.
2. SSH from machineA to machineB
where machineB is my actual lab machine. neither machineA or machineB allow anything other than SSH, and machineB is only accessible from machineA. However, I really need to run yum on machineB.I have managed to get internet access via Firefox on machineB by creating a series of SOCKS proxy via SSH.
1. machineB: ssh -L 12345:localhost:12345 user@machineA
2. machineA: ssh -D 12345 user@machineC
3. machineB: configure firefox to use socks proxy, localhost, 12345
where machineC has internet without limits placed. This is the only way I have managed to get internet working. I tried using ssh -L all the way from machineB->machineA->machineC but it didn't work (even when setting Firefox to use http proxy). I tried using ssh -D all the way, but again that doesn't work either. I do have access via Firefox using socks proxy. However, yum update fails to retrieve mirror list, and from what I have found I don't believe yum supports socks proxy directly. Instead, it uses http_proxy / ftp_proxy.how to get yum to go out over the SOCKS proxy I created (same one using in Firefox)? It seems like since Firefox can access the internet and everything without issues, i should be able to get yum to tunnel through the same connection to access everything.... I tried

I have a freshly installed dual boot Win 7 and F15. Windows 7 gets on the internet no problem, so does this RHEL/FF machine, iphone too, but F15/Firefox no joy. it's showing me connected to my network just fine. I'm pretty sure it worked at some point because I did my software updates and I have a saved bookmark, though I don't remember exactly.

I have a dual boot Linux system with Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 and Slackware 12.1. I have a USB modem Huawei 1261 that I am using with Ubuntu with the usb_modeswitch package. I would like to get that working with Slackware 12.1. The usb_modeswitch seems to be working fine and also the "wvdial cdma" seems to working but Firefox can't connect to the internet.

I've been trying to make myself anonymous, but I cant find 'Tor' anywhere, tried 'yum & kpackagekit' neither have it. I did find 'Privoxy', installed it, set proxy for HTTP and HTTPS in Firefox, but it says 'unknown proxy' when I try to use it! I've been to the Privoxy web site and read through the 'User manual', but most of it is 'geek' to me!

I just cant get firefox to connect to the net, the computer receives the wireless signal etc but cant get on the net.
Overall I am getting to hate Linux etc, wiped off a perfectly running Widows 7 to get this mess. Can I uninstalll Unbuntu and get my Windows 7 back?

Cannot connect to internet via Firefox or Midori on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop with a Netgear wireless card. I have a Lenovo S10e netbook running a pretty clean version of 32bit opensuse 11.4, with very few standard patches since I installed it all those moons ago. The problem is that firefox cannot connect to the internet, the odd bit is that skype has no such problems. Are there any network related functions that that typically go screwy that might cause such a problem? The netbook really hasn't been used much for tinkering to have 'accumulated' a problem, but I'm about to give it to the extremely non-technical parents in law and cannot have it misbehaving, especially not as they are in a different country.

I want to SSH to my server which is some where on internet. I am having internet access on my lan via a proxy i.e. in firefox I have to specify the option of IP+ port of my proxy server.What do I need to do in order to be able to SSH to my server which is on internet.The proxy software used on the main server for creating it as a proxy server is ccproxy and that is a windows machine.I use Ubuntu and my server where I have to SSH is also a Ubuntu server.

I use wireless service of my school, and I got a problem use proxy to connect to Internet for a whole system. I setup proxy for Firefox like this, and Firefox works! And this for my system. I already click "Apply System Wide". It's not work. Apt-get, Pidgin, GoogleEarths not working. My school's proxy also provide a username and password for everybody.

I have Fedora Core 13 running. I have successfully (I think) installed squid, although I may have it configured incorrectly. I can ssh into the box from work via putty, but I can't use the proxy. I get a message "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" I can use the proxy from my home network, and have watched the tcpdump for port 3128 while using the proxy. I have turned off iptables completely (I'm not sure yet how to just allow squid)...

Setting up an Internet proxy In the past I had set a computer to act as an Internet proxy. This would be multihomed, and running dansguardian, tinyproxy and firehol. Then webmin would be used as interface. By time I realised that this system is far from effective. Is there some other way to setup a proxy to be placed between users and the Internet? I would like (the admin) to be able to see in which sites users go and have a lot of control on access..

I have setup a Squid Transparent Proxy that works and I can connect to most websites and block-list works and yadda yadda yadda.
My problem is that when I try to connect to a certain PC it will not work. A bit more clarity...
[INTERNET]----[DSL-MODEM]----[ROUTER]----[SQUIDSERVER]----[NETWORK]
Connected to the DSL-MODEM is the PC in question that I can't connect to when using Squid. If I bypass the Squid from the Network and go through the router I can connect to the PC.
I want to be able to use the Squid server and still access the PC connected to the Modem and I want to have a Squid SAR report of the Network PC's accessing the PC on the modem.
The Modem/Router/Squid/Network all use the same IP range, but the PC on the modem has a different IP.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and starting a SOCKS proxy with 'ssh -D', and setting Ubuntu to use it with "System -> Preferences -> Network Proxy". Firefox uses the proxy, and the proxy's IP appears when I visit a site like [URL]. is Firefox resolving DNS requests through this proxy? Is my web-browsing truly secure? (That is, until I exit the other end of the proxy.
I know it's insecure after that.) (And I've verified the keys, I'm not being man-in-the-middled) (And--screw it. You know what I mean. Is it resolving DNS requests through the proxy?)I don't know how I would go about verifying such a thing for myself.Using additional hardware such as another debugging proxy is not an option. If Firefox isn't resolving my DNS requests through the SOCKS proxy, how do I go about fixing it?

My PC is part of a LAN so while configuring eth0, we specify the Gateway to access all other resources in the network. The PC successfully access Internet through a proxy server configured in Mozilla(manual proxy config) but the update option or the Synaptic Pkg mngr are not able to access internet anyway. I have tried the option "Apply System Wide" in "Network Proxy" but no progress so far.
I also tried to forward all request coming for udp/tcp on port 80 to the proxyserver on a specific port, but with no success. Also I can't ping any website from terminal, reiterating the fact that I can access internet in firefox through the proxy on a specific port.
