I had to disable "smooth scrolling"
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Smooth Scrolling
I'm using LXDE on a HP510 Laptop, it's onboard graphics chipset is a: Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. I am not using an xorg.conf file, so the settings are just the default autodetect ones I assume. I've noticed it when scrolling in firefox, and can't seem to get it to do it when scrolling in other applications, but I haven't really used this laptop much since installing the Fedora 12 LXDE spin recently. I'm not sure what information to supply that will help you help me. Here is a screenshot to show what happens.
I dunno what the big black box is, its only visible on the screenshot. I had to bind a script to printscreen to get it to make a screenshot, so its probably something I need to do here to get rid of it?
Code:
#!/bin/bash
DATE=`date +%Y-%m-%d %H-%M`
import -window root "$HOME/Desktop/screenshot $DATE.png"
I also can't get the touchpad scrolling to work. Or my external monitor without some issues. So I think I will be making an xorg.conf file at some point.

I'm still trying to learn the ropes on linux as a whole and I've run into sort of a huge dilema. I wanted to connect my laptop to my TV via VGA. However, it would not work because I didn't have the proprietary graphics driver for my graphics card (Nvidia Quadro NVS 3100M). I searched the internet and found the guide below because the guide provided here did not specify Quadro family graphics cards[URL]I followed the "easy method" to the T. Now I cannot boot into Fedora 15 at all (I'm stuck on bloody Windows 7 again ). It simply freezes at the boot animation (the "F" in the bubble). What can I do to fix this

Unfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window.While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.

It's a lot more laggy and jerky in GNOME/X, even with GL-render on. Is this normal with nVidia cards or should I try tweaking some settings?

"screen tearing" whenever I scroll, watch flash videos, or any videos in general. I first noticed this in Fedora 14, and now I notice the same behaviour in Linux Mint.Does anyone know what might be causing this? My Graphics Card is: Nvidia Geforce GTX 280M (1GB) I'm using Nvidia proprietary drivers. Reading some forums I see that the problem might be related to Compiz. Here's my xorg.conf file (if needed);
Code:
Section "Screen"

I'm running Debian Wheezy on a laptop with an i3 380M and 4GB of DDR3 1066 RAM. Whenever I open a relatively large (~80MB) pdf in evince, my system will continue running perfectly fine for a few minutes and then at some point it will just completely freeze up. The mouse cursor doesn't even respond, and I have to do a hard reboot to get the system running again.

After I had upgraded to 10.10, Firefox was at first running smoothly, but later it would no longer connect/open any given site. (could not connect to server). I the de-installed and new installed Firefox and it worked fine again for a while but then the same problem returned. I then completely removed Firefox and all packages pertaining to it, and then made a new install of the basic Firefox browser (same problem), then started adding one by one the other "Ubuntu" packages in synaptic for firefox, but the problem remains. I am currently using Chromium (which runs well and extremely fast) but I would like to have Firefox back

I am running Fedora 9 in virtual box on laptop. Want to set Fedora display size so that I will not have to scroll up or down or sideways to view screen contents. Have tried a couple of options such a resize box and change from full size but these do not help reduce size of Fedora display. Am wondering if it as something to do with the rectangular size of laptop monitor???

I am using F12 for a while now and my laptop has been freeze up from last update. So, I decide to do a fresh install with F12 using F12 net install method.I got it running but comes up with all sort of SELinux AVC denial waring and my firefox does not work and firefox pop up with waring as follow:Quote:Could not initializeapplication's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.Could some one tell me how to fix this problem?he firfox version is 3.5.15-1I ave F12 on T23 LaptopThe kernel is 2.6.32.26-175.fc12.i686.PA1Gb memory with PIII mobile

So, I've done a fresh install of F13 on my laptop and the very first thing I chose to add was Adobe Flash (installed with help of Autoten). Flash plugin in Firefox seems to be working alright, but make a right-click on any Flash content on a web page - and browser will freeze.
I'm even puzzled about what can be done to diagnose the problem. Running Firefox from a terminal emulator doesn't give any useful feedback on this situation.
some input on what can be done to clear things up.
P.S. I'm running a 32 bit version OS.

I'm trying to fix this screen problem I continue to have (an example: in Evolution, its like my screen is too small to see everything, I have to scroll over down or over, then the window moves over and pulls me back to original spot. I've tried to change the screen resolution and that actually makes things worse. The screen problem is very irritating and I don't know why its happening. I've been using Ubuntu or Mint for years and have never had this problem.
Also, a similar problem but nowhere near as annoying: the sides of either side of screen are black. I can't get the monitor to be completely filled. I went to Intel's website and they have a few drivers compatible for linux (at least that is what they are saying).
I'm using Ubuntu lts 10.04 lucid lynx

I'm trying to install (L)ubuntu on an old AMD 1.66GHz based HP laptop, to dual boot with Windows XP. However I'm running into an issue that I haven't come across on any other machine before where after selecting "Install Lubuntu" from the main boot menu, it moves to the scrolling dots splash/loading screen and after ~30 sec or a minute it freezes. There is no error, it doesn't reboot or eject the disk even after several hours of sitting on that splash screen, with the dots frozen, no CD activity, and no HDD activity. I get the same result if I try to boot it as a LiveCD as well.
Can someone help diagnose whats going on? Is it possible changing some boot options will allow it to install? I'm not quite sure where to go with this one.

On certain sites like this one and Sears, after about 30 seconds the screen goes mostly white with a few black spots and the cursor turns into a big white square... for a few seconds. Afterwards, the site mostly returns, but all text on the screen is unreadable.It's not fuzzy, just weird, non-discernible symbols. 4/5 it goes back to normal if I log out and back in, though it does over and over if I revisit the same sites. It's been going on since about Monday.

I've been through a number of installs before. I am now trying to install (k)ubuntu on a toshiba satellite L500. It will either stall before progressing to the installation or when it reboots after finishing if I use the test installer. I tried 9.10 and 10.4beta and it's the same thing. It will either stall with a blank screen (but somewhat responsive: ctrl+alt+prtsc+R,E,I,U,B,S will reboot it), or a text listing similar to dmesg output code...
repeated over and over where (text) is some stuff about acpi, kernel_init, schedule_tail, or child_rip. I'm really unsure of how to approach this.
It has the Intel HM55 wireless integrated chipset. [SOLVED] blank screen during install on Toshiba laptop - Intel graphics - Page 2 - Ubuntu Forums suggests that it is not that compatible with linux, but they had success with the current kernel. I unfortunately, have not.

Using Firefox 3.6.10 on openSUSE 11.3 with kde desktop on T42 I am finding that I lose control of the scrolling function form time to time. The result is that if I click on the down arrow to go down from the top of a page, the window will scroll down to the bottom of page without stopping, even if I take pointer off the arrow.The reverse is also true if I am trying to go up from the bottom of a page. Great for very fast reader but not for me. Is this a problem anybody else has seen? For me it is new to 11.3 but there have been so many Firefox upgrades since I ran 11.2 I cannot determine precisely when it started

When I browse the Internet using Firefox, I often use the keyboard to scroll because it is quicker than using the mouse. Page-Up and Page-Down are useful; Home and End are especially useful to let me move instantly to the top or bottom of a long page.
However, for the past few days, these keys have not worked correctly.
When I press those keys, either nothing happens or the screen briefly flashes but stays where it is. On some pages, they also create a large vertical black bar that slowly flashes on the page.
I have started Firefox in Safe Mode and it does the same thing (see the screen-shot). So, it's not an add-on creating the problem.
Interestingly, the keys still work properly in Chromium.
How I can fix this Firefox problem?
My system:
Ubuntu Lucid 10.04, 64-bit, with all updates
Firefox 3.6.16

trying to get Firefox working properly. I have the tarball installed from Firefoxs site and am using Fedora 12 with KDE as the desktop environment. The problem is if I start Firefox normally, say, by just clicking on the firefox script, then the graphics will be rather crude; but when Firefox starts as soon as I log in (because Ive configured it to auto-start) then the graphics will be nice and smooth. Im having a hard time trying to find answers for this because Im not exactly sure whats happening? I think when it auto-starts as I log in, itll use... well, this is the bit I havent got a clue how to explain? Id guess one time it uses QT, and the other time itll use GTK.
I dont know why its doing this, and when its started normally and I go to shutdown most of the time itll come up with a crash report. There isnt any difference in the way Firefox is being opened, the auto-start calls upon the same script that my shortcut uses, which is the same as clicking on the firefox script in the firefox folder. I have a few images attached to elucidate the problem. I understand I may not have made myself very clear, but Im having a great deal of trouble understanding what precisely is going on.
Firefox can seem a bit glitchy when the crude graphics are in use. Like the mouse-overs which leave traces of the box behind when you move the mouse away. So Im having to logout then back in if Ive happened to close Firefox and want to reopen it...

When using firefox, if I use my arrow keys in the keyboard to scroll through the Window, it works only if the mouse pointer is inside the window. Otherwise, the scroll doesn't work. Is there any way to solve this problem?
It's not just the arrow keys, even the TouchPad scroll on my laptop also.

I just finished installing 10.04. When I use the mouse wheel to scroll up, Firefox loads previous pages in my history. I had the same problem in 9.10. I've searched through the net looking for solutions. Most solutions talk about adjusting mousewheel.withnokey options. However, everything I try doesn't stop it from loading previous pages when using the mouse wheel to scroll up. My current settings are as follows:
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 6
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down works fine. It's only when scrolling up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I'm using a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse

Has anyone else had a problem with Firefox hesitating when scrolling web pages or with words taking a minute to show up while you are typing? I can be halfway through a sentence before the letters actually show up. And when scrolling down a page, it will just stop and then pick back up a few seconds later - but not where it left it. It picks back up as if it had been scrolling the whole time.I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with Firefox 3.6.13 and it does this on two desktops and two laptops.

This is a problem I had in Ubuntu some years ago that just seemed to go away; sporadically I will want to select a website by positioning the cursor over the drop-down arrow to the right side of the url box- after the list is displayed it will vanish immediately when I attempt to position the cursor over it to make a selection. Minimizing then maximizing Firefox resolves it.
A minor problem yes - but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.
