Software :: CCTV For Remote Viewing Of 8 Camera DVR Behind Router?

Aug 21, 2010

I need to get software for viewing my shop cameras from my laptop with wwan card. I have an ADT 8 camera DVR and a Motorola Netopia 3347-02 router from AT&T. My shop computer is running Windows 7 with RASPlus for viewing locally. I have a Dell Lattitude D520 laptop with Knoppix 6.2 and a WWAN card. What software do I need to view the cameras from the road? What do I need to do to get past my router? I hear that Zoneminder is not good enough to handle the 8 cameras.

Ubuntu :: 8.04 - Zoneminder Box Will Not Connect To CCTV Camera

Nov 11, 2010

8.04 permissions. I have had ubuntu 8.04 running Zoneminder 1.22.3 for over 2 years with a capture card and cctv cameras. I just bought a Trendnet IP512p camera. My zoneminder box will not connect to it. The main error I get is, [Restarting capture daemon for ipcam, shared memory not valid], I am wasting time with shared memory settings. I just booted a live cd of 9.10 with Zoneminder 1.22.3 that I remastered from another system and the IP camera works fine. (It ran all night in the live environment.) From that test I have concluded I have a permission problem in my 8.04 install that is not letting www-data (the ZM process) access what it needs to grab the stream. From the same box I can stream the camera to firefox while using vnc to connect to it.

Ubuntu :: CCTV SuperDVR Home Security Camera Install?

Dec 13, 2010

Has anyone gotten a DVR card to work with Zoneminder? I have a chinese DVR card in a Windows Box running 8 Cameras on software called SuperDVR. It seems all of these camera cards are the same, some made by Avermedia, or QSee. My card actually came with SuperDVR software that didn't work properly, the documentation was obviously bad chinese translation and I had a really tough time getting it to work on the Windows box initially. Finally I found that it just won't work with Windows 7 or 64 bit, so I reinstaled WinXP 32 bit onto the box and found an upgraded SuperDVR software on the QSee camera driver website. I've started using Ubuntu exclusively and would love to make the switch to Ubuntu for my Camera box. I'm wondering if Ubuntu will recognize the camera card. It's basically a TV tuner card, has 2 plugs that allow BNC pigtails to be input.

I was even thinking maybe running Virtual Box ontop of Ubuntu and run the DVR in Virtual XP. I'd really like to take advantage of the 64 bit hardware, so I was thinking about running Ubuntu Server 10.10 64 bit on this machine, is that a bad idea?

Software :: TV Tuner Card Connected To CCTV Camera - Segfaults?

Dec 4, 2010

I have a tv tuner card connected to a cctv camera for streaming, all works good in tvtime, cheese used to work but then I changed the resolution to a lower one and now it segfaults, purged reinstalled same issue, also I tried with mplayer, mencoder, mythtv (coludn't find any signal on the input) and camorama.
Code:
mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:input=1:channel=1:width=768:height=768:device=/dev/video0

And it displays lines through everything but I can see the messed up image, I believe this is due to the current input format being YVU420, I was able in another program to verify this by changing the input codec to yvuv i think it was, how do I change the in mplayer, mencoder, camorama has this bug too, how to change this setting ut codec in mplayer and mencoder, also canorama has this issue, but I can actually see everything, b/w and with lines through it. I am just trying to record video to AVI.

Question is : is it possible to connect the DVR( s) to a linux server which will get user name and password before letting us view the DVR. Currently there is one set as follows: 1. From location X a device is connected to location Y using leased line and static IP (12 kms distance). In location Y a router is placed and port forwarding is configured. From Location Z using internet and remote desktop concept the device at location X is viewed and data captured. Is it possible to use a similar concept but with some sort of security authentication procedure in place.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Option For Canon Remote Capture - Remote Camera Control Software ?

Oct 17, 2010

Canon cameras used to come with a piece of software called remote capture for Windows and MacOS.

You plug in the camera via USB, and then the camera display is on your monitor. From there you can do everything your camera does, like taking pictures of video. Does anyone know if there is linux equivalent software that can do this?

I have found this software, but new cameras aren't supported.

Ubuntu :: Viewing Desktop Using Remote Client (Windows TightVNC) Doesn't Work

When either of the proprietary Nvidia drivers are enabled, viewing the desktop using a remote client (Windows TightVNC) does not work. The initial remote screen display is ok, but no updates to the remote display occur. Reverting back to the non-proprietary driver solves the problem. I have also tried using a 10.04 Live CD and used Remote Desktop Viewer on the client machine, and it behaves the same way.

Ubuntu :: Remote Capture Canon Digital Camera

Aug 14, 2010

From time to time I do a bit of astrophotography and time lapse using a canon 350d. To do it properly I have to use a remote capture program on the laptop. This was never a problem on windows or the mac. Does anyone know of a way to control my camera on ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition?

I have installed gphoto2 and this allows a command line method but I dont like command lines for this kind of stuff, plus id like to see the image straight away. I have tried a couple of GUIs for gphoto but the only one which seems to have a capture option is digikam.... but the button is shaded out so I cant use it.

Ubuntu :: Ssh To Connect To A Remote Computer Behind A Router

Jan 30, 2010

I want to show you this scheme:MyPC -> router -> internet <- router <- Mom'spc I want to connect from my pc to my mom's pc using ssh. The first router doesn't represent a problem, but my mom's router does. Our IPs are both dynamic (anyway, I can easyly know them) and I have opened the port (TCP/UDP) 2100 on the router in order to open a gateway on mom's pc.The firewall is not enabled on the router, nor on mom's pc.

Granted all this, now I should be able to connect to that computer using ssh:ssh user@ip -p 2100 But I can't, I always get a "connection refused".if I do it on my intranet, I can connect without any problem (to others computers, of course, not mom's) What's the reason because I always get a connection refused?

Ubuntu :: Remote Desktop With Router WRT54GS2

Jul 18, 2010

I recently got a new router (and new isp). On my old isp and router it seemed quite simple to remote desktop to my linux box from any of my windows xp machines using vnc.

After I got my new router(WRT54GS2) and pretty much at the same time upgraded to 10.04 I had went back to reconfigure it. I simply cannot find a way to make this work. On the old version of ubuntu the remote desktop settings had a choice to change the port which seemed like the key ingredient to make it work when I was having troubles before. This new version seems verrry dumbed down to me and I can't seem to get anything to work.

I read some tutorials and all I've seen is to change port forwarding settings on my router(i'll include a picture of what that looks like)

Ubuntu Networking :: Remote SSH With Both DSL Modem And Wireless Router

Jul 28, 2011

I have an Ubuntu server that I need to access remotely while I am at school. The server's internet connection comes first through a DI-604 broadband router and then through a Netgear Wireless router:

ethernet wall jack --> Broadband Router --> Wireless Router --> Server's ethernet port

I can manage to get the SSH to work with the current IP address (dynamic) by connecting the server directly to the broadband router, but I cannot set up DNS (ddclient on the server, Namecheap for domain registrar and nameserver) with it. I can set up DNS on the router with no issue, as it has the DNS client built in, but I cannot get the SHH to connect through both the modem and the router as mentioned above. Best case scenario, this can be fixed without having to get anything new, but if that is the case, recommendations of a new setup

Other reference info - ISP at server is Verizon Fios, broadband router set to PPPoE.

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up Desktop (9.04) Behind Router For Remote Access By Latptop (9.10)?

Jan 8, 2010

Setting up desktop (9.04) behind router for remote access by latptop (9.10) I am setting up desktop (9.04) behind router for remote access by latptop (9.10). Rationale: All of my files are on my desktop HD, but I am often out of my home needing to work on my files. It is becoming labour intensive to keep track of the files I make/change and try to copy them on my non-connected desktop/laptop.

Dream: Able to remote access and modify my desktop files from my laptop (while the files remain on the desktop). Request: A simple, GUI, basic, non-technical guide how to set it up!

What I know: 1.I was going to use the 'Remote Desktop' VNC connection under System->Preferences. However, if I understand this correctly, this only secures my computer (i.e. Locks the front door of my desktop) and the data streamed between them is not encrypted.[URL]..

2.Then I need to set up my router to accept the connection from my laptop.

3.Then I will need to use SSH to secure the info sent between them. This is the bit I don't really have a good grip on.

Networking :: Setting Up Linux Box As IPv6 Router To Replace Netgear WNR1000 Wireless Router?

Jun 18, 2011

I want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.

As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?

My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?

Networking :: Set Up A Laptop As A Router To Connect Wirelessly To ADSL Router?

Nov 6, 2009

I have a desktop PC running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7, and a Eee PC 701 laptop running EasyPeasy Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to connect the desktop to the laptop with a wired connection (eth0), then the laptop to my ADSL router using wireless (ath0).

I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.

I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:

net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

Then I tried this on the laptop:

sudo iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface ath0 -j MASQUERADE
sudo iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT

This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.

But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.

Networking :: Network Setup - Router - Wireless Router Card ?

Apr 24, 2010

I'm having trouble getting my network set up the way that I want it/had it. You see, when I first set up my network, I just had my cable modem going directly to my standard wired router (A D-Link DI-604), which had DHCP,and was connected to all of the computers on my network. I had one switch hooked up to one of the ports of the router, but this was a regular switch, and it would not try to assign IP addresses, it would just pass through the DHCP info as I wanted.

Now however, my network setup has changed. My room mate and I both got laptops, and we decided that we wanted to have wireless access so we didn't have to constantly plug in to the router.

Now my network is set up like this: The modem is hooked up to the router(DI-604), which is hooked up on the LAN side to our computers, our switch (which is hooked up to 3 more computers), and to a wireless router card (A Gigabyte GN-BC01).

The wireless router card has two jacks for ethernet. One for WAN, and one for LAN. The LAN side we have plugged only into the computer in which the card is installed.

Now the problem is this: The wireless router card comes with DHCP by default, and it's assigning addresses to the laptops and to the computer hat it's in, and worse, the IP addresses are on a different subnet than that of the main dlink router. The Main (dlink) router assigns addresses from 192.168.0.1 (itself) to 192.168.0.254, while the wireless router card assigns addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254 (itself).

Because of this, I cannot access services on the wireless network from my wired network or vice versa. The first thing I tried was setting the card to assign addresses from 192.168.0.12 to 192.168.0.253, however it just said "internal error" when I tried to do this. I decided that this may be because it sees that it was being assigned an address on it's WAN side on the same subnet. So the next thing I tried was disabling DHCP and setting the "LAN IP Address" to 192.168.0.12, hoping that the DHCP would just go through the card, like a switch. I would have set the LAN IP address to be assigned by DHCP, but this was not an option, so I decided that'd be the best thing to set it to.

Once again however, setting the LAN ip address to an address on the same subnet as that of the IP assigned to it's WAN side caused it to report an "internal error". I verified that this was the issue by setting the LAN address to several other private IP addresses to test (I.E. 10.0.0.1, 192.168.3.1, 192.168.5.12).

My question then really is: How do I set up both routers so that I can access services and computers from each network from the other network. Should I set them with different subnets and set the gateway on the wireless network to the main router? To the wireless router card? Should I put them on the same subnet? Will it know how to communicate?

Here is a link to (picture) my network diagram. Network Diagram

Networking :: Old Router Behind New Router - Configuration ?

Oct 30, 2010

I've moved a linuxbox from being my gateway (nat, etc) to behind a new gateway (a DD-wrt router). For transparency purposes, I'd like to continue using the old box services, and just have the gateway in front of it.

Here's what I did:

The newgateway is setup for class C, 192.168.0.0

This configuration works, but sometimes it doesn't and I haven't figured out why yet.

At sometimes, clients on the LAN get throughput rates with very little speed loss (using speakeasy speed test). They will run at 33M on the LAN, running through both the newgateway, and the oldbox, and get about 35M with directly connected to the cable modem.

Other times, it seems nothing can talk with anyone, and I am not sure why.

I know what I have done is a little unconventional, but it's a transitional thing, and I am not sure it is the cause of the problem, although it was the last things changed.
