Slackware :: Paste To Another Application - Get Rxvt To Use Clipboard?
Apr 9, 2011
Using fluxbox in 13.1. If I select text in rxvt and then click the mouse wheel it pastes the selection at the cursor. But apparently it does not use the clipboard to do this, because if I Ctrl-v into another app, say jedit, it doesnt paste the rxvt selection, it pastes the last thing that was put on the clipboard. Is there any way to get rxvt to use the clipboard?

After an afternoon of googling, I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only rxvt / elinks user who also wants to copy text from the browser! My problem is thus... rxvt uses Shift-Left-Click to paste, and elinks uses Shift-Left-Click to select. I need a way to either change elinks (preferably without disabling mouse support - which solves the problem BTW) or RXVT. RXVT is on cygwin, and elinks is on archlinux.

I am using XMing+Putty to access a Linux machine from an XP32 machine. I can copy text from windows and paste it to Linux fine, but I can't copy from Linux and paste to Windows consistently. If I try several times (or hold down the paste keystroke) it will eventually paste; sometimes several times!
I would like to improve the consistency of my Linux to Window pastes. I have per-mutated every combo of Clipboard and Clipboard2. I can not edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf like some other fixes suggest. I have been informed the Linux admins will not allocate resources to resolve this problem in the near future so any fixes need to be Windows side or able to be done without root/admin privileges.

because rxvt doesn't support Unicode (UTF-8 in my case), I'd like to use urxvt (rxvt-unicode) instead. I installed it using the SlackBuild script from SlackBuilds.org. As it is not needed for all users, on the one hand, and because I would like to avoid assumptions about which shell the user prefers, I thought I'd put this into a ~/.profile:
[code]...
Unfortunately, the alias command is just ignored, although ~/.profile is read. I know this, because there are some variables defined and exported in this file, too, and they are evaluated. Now I wonder: Why doesn't have the alias any effect? In fact, after I do. Because /usr/local precedes /usr/bin in $PATH, and because the evaluation of the search PATH stops on the first hit, this works: Whenever I issue rxvt on the command line, urxvt is started. There's even a little advantage compared to the alias approach: The window title is "rxvt", although uxrvt is, what's actually being executed. Although this is all I need for the moment, I'd like to learn, what's wrong with my first attempt using alias.

I have a slight problem. Whenever I type something in rxvt, and sometimes it's a loooong something, I end up having to make it span multiple lines, as do you, probably. Anyway, my problem is that if I'm in any console at all, (aside from the TTY console and such) and I try to go multiple lines, this is what happens:
Code:
[root@SectionI13] > aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
After the first pass...
Code:
aaaaaaaectionI13] > aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
And after the second pass...
Code:
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Now, I'd be fine and dandy with this, if it wasn't so hard to figure out what I was typing after the first pass, because it's just plain hard to understand a command when there's the second half of it in front of the first half of it.

P.S. I use 'spice' option of KVM.

I'd like to have a Linux machine run what Windows users typically call a clipboard as a network service on my small LAN (about 10 machines). More specifically I am looking to have Linux run the clipboard service centrally in the LAN with both Windows and *nix machines able to connect to it as opposed to the peer-to-peer sync model that I am seeing in almost all of the applications I've discovered thus far.

klipper doesn't always store the latest clipboard contents in its history in kde 4.3.5. I have "ignore selection" and "separate clipboard and selection" set in Klippers settings. When i open a new program, for example - kwrite, type some text in it, select some of it and hit ctrl+c - copied text doesn't show up in klippers history list. It seems that klipper misses the first copy operation done in newly launched applications, only by copying the same (or some other) text again klippers menu entry shows up. This seems to happen with only newly launched application, when i had kwrite window already open, opening a second window and performing copy worked fine with klipper.

When entering insert mode in a text file i want to edit while using rxvt-unicode, there is a p being inserted and a whole new line is entered as well. when i hit the insert key, vim enters insert mode but also types a p and forces whatever line i am on down a line. if num lock is not on, it will not enter insert mode by pressing the insert key but if i type using the keyboard and not the number pad, it still enters text. vim/mode keys work normally in xterm. is there some unusual configuration required in order to get vim to behave properly within rxvt-unicode?
created ~/.Xmodmap file as outlined here: [URL] ....

I am attempting to set a character set of IBM850 on slackware linux for a particular application (epic5). I am using rxvt-unicode and have setup LANG/LC_*=en_US. Now if I set the encoding to IBM850 in kde's konsole program im able to display certain characters correctly. I'd rather not use IBM850 for everything; is there a way to set/alias a command for a per application execution?
I've tried things like:
LC_CTYPE=IBM850 epic5
LC_ALL=IBM850 epic5

Using current 32 bit I'm unable to print anything outside of KDE. If I print something from Konqueror or Koffice for instance, my printer shows up in the dialog and everything prints fine. However if I use openoffice or abiword, etc then my only option is to "print to file" It is a samba shared printer that is attached to a 13.1 server, but I don't know that that makes a difference.

Using Slackware 12.0 32-bit. KDE KDE 4.2.4.When I choose the Menu (Kickoff Application Launcher)then choose Development, and then 'Emacs' I get the version of emacs that came with the distribution.
It is at /usr/bin
In the meantime, I have installed a compiled version of emacs that is installed at /usr/local/bin.
How do I modify Slack so that the App launcher launches /usr/local/bin/emacs?

I want to display cpu temperature and fan speed, network activities, load, etc on a simple window mangement, such as fvwm, wm, or blackbox. Is there a software in slackware packages to show these sensors reading in X windows similar to wmsupermon? I don't want to compile it, if slackware has something same that i can just use.

I have been searching around into /etc/xdg/ and ~/.config and also /skel/.config (for newly created users!) so I can ensure specific applications open filetypes by default.
I would prefer to be able to use a system wide configuration so that i may be able to run a script with each new slackware release that would change application/filetype defaults for all users including existing to our liking (unless they have already preset their own app/defaults in ~/.config).

I think that Centros is closely connected to Red Hat, right? And, I have heard that if you are going to go for a non-free linux system for your business, Red Hat is rated # 1 followed by OpenSuse. So, if you are going for a free linux system, is it best to go with Centros, or, is Slackware good enough?

every here and there i enter a page where a box pops up:Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page . After a number of steps I am at a page by Adobe, and I download what seems to be a generic package (Ubuntu will of course be there). But its instalation has never proved helpful. Still the same pop-up. Are there binaries for Slack or a way to get the sources?

I'm NOT asking about clipboard managers like Glipper, Parcellite, GNOME itself should let configure clipboard behaviour: package "gnome-settings-daemon" includes "Clipboard management" - this is installed and running by default.[URL].. But - where I can make settings of clipboard ?
I have thing, in "gnome-control-center" - there are many applets, corresponding to gnome-settings-daemon plugins. But I can't find no clipboard setting. Where is it ? I remember, in past (maybe it was in KDE desktop (?)) I could set, if my X selections should be added to "ctrl-c" list and vice versa or not. This is what I need.
But once again - I do not ask about installing Clipboard managers. I'm asking - where is standard GNOME clipboard setting in Lucid.

I make use of the clipboard manager a lot, and have just replaced Clipman with ClipIt on my Debian 8 (Xfce) host. I also have a Debian 8 (and 7) VM with Xfce, but without xfce4-panel, so no taskbar. Is there a way to make use of a clipboard manager with no panel/taskbar? I have ClipIt installed on the 8 VM, but do not have obvious access to it. It's the last hurdle to eliminating the taskbar/panel for me...... meaning eliminating the taskbar, yet keeping all the functionality.
I started using Xfce without xfce4-panel, when I decided that Openbox was a little too spartan for me...... at least without spending a lot of time to customize it, which I probably will do eventually, but for now, I am staying with Xfce.

I have a fully patched newly installed F15 x86_64 installation, with gnome-rdp used to run rdesktop to various Windows servers I manage. (rdesktop-1.6.0-11.fc15.x86_64) On F14, and most other Fedora's if I copied something on the Linux clipboard, I could paste it to the Windows server I was remote desktopped onto, and vice versa. However, on this installation this has ceased. The clipboard is no longer shared.
On a whim, I tested and found that when run from the command line as rdesktop -g 1024x768 hostname that the clipboard works. Thus the fault is with GNOME-RDP. gnome-rdp-0.2.3-8.fc15.x86_64
