Slackware :: Ntfs-3g Error After Kernel Upgrade To 2.6.35.4?

Aug 27, 2010

I was running 2.6.35 without any errors. I decided to upgrade to .4 today, used the same config. After i rebooted into the newly compiled kernel i got these errors on boot..

Code:
Mounting non-root local filesystems:
ntfs-3g: Failed to access volume '/dev/sdc1': No such file or directory
ntfs-3g 2010.3.6 integrated FUSE 27 - Third Generation NTFS Driver
Configuration type 1, XATTRS are on, POSIX ACLS are off
Copyright (C) 2005-2007 Yura Pakhuchiy

[Code]...

I did a complete disk check and it appears to be fine. Then i booted in the default kernel that comes with slackware 13.1 and walla..No errors! What could be the problem? Did someone experience the same issue?

Slackware :: Upgrade To The Kernel > 2.6.29 On Slack 12.2

May 5, 2010

can I upgrade the kernel on my slack 12.2 to the version 2.6.29 or higher?I need the kernel must support the KMS mechanism.Why I need KMS? I want to define virtual screen of size greater than 2048 x 2048. Why I need so huge virtual screen?To run two-display configuration on my dual-head Intel graphic card. At the moment I can set max 2048 x 2048 virtual screen which is not enough for my two displays:LCD of notebook has 1400 x 1050 resolution, and external LCD panel 1280 x 1024. At this moment a part of desktop is on both displays. Small part but causes some problems, and at this moment only awesome (really awesome) window manager can handle this configuration.

Slackware :: Re-Installing The Kernel (damaged After Upgrade)?

Jun 1, 2010

How you doing all? I've my Slackware 13 box. Recently, I have upgraded to -current, and while the upgrade I noticed that my connection went down while it was downloading the new kernel. I had doubts that it got damaged.

Code:
slackpkg upgrade-all and found every thing is up to date. While upgrading, the system asked me to run lilo, and I did. But after rebooting, I got the (Kernel Panic) error. I logged back in using setup disk, and the chroot to my original system root directory. I removed the current Kernels, and now I need to re-install it.. there I'm stuck. Slackpkg isn't working because the box is not connecting to the internet. or links is more than appreciated since I'm not geek enough to sort it by my own. Also few googling didn't set me up with a solution so far.

Slackware :: Unsafe To Upgrade The Kernel With Slapt-get?

Jan 29, 2010

I noticed that slapt-get excludes a lot of package titles based on aaa, glibc, and kernel. I've been wondering why, and haven't been able to find any definitive answers... Anyone here have any ideas on why that is? My Slackware installation is currently kernel 2.6.29.6 (I think) and the newest available on the official repositories is 2.6.32.5 (or something like that).

When I put in slapt-get --upgrade it spits out about 15 packages that are excluded that it won't upgrade. Now, I know I can remove the exclusions by editing the slapt-get configuration file, but I don't want to if it's going to screw something up. So my question is: Is there a reason those are excluded? Is it unsafe to upgrade the kernel with slapt-get?

Slackware :: DSL Modem Firmware Is Not Loaded After Kernel Upgrade

May 24, 2010

I have a zyxel dsl (usb) moden, which needs a firmware portion to work, called cxacru-fw.bin.

I have been using this modem using with at least two different slackware distributions, even when the atm drivers were not included in the kernel.

Presently I am using slackware 13.0, with the vmlinuz-huge-smp-2.6.29.6-smp kernel.

I downlowded the 2.6.34 kernel, because I need it for a new webcam, compiled and installed it, and oops! the modem does not work anymore.

I am pretty sure I have configured the kernel correctly; dmesg tells me the modem is recognized by the kernel, as it is with the previous one, but the firmware is not loaded, because the DSL led remains off.

I attach the kernel configuration lines:

I have tried forcing the kernel to load the firmware, using but it didn't work either.

Slackware :: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp Kernel Modules Tree Found For Kernel "2.6.33.4-smp" ... For Mkinitrd - Encrypted Installation

Jul 22, 2010

I am trying to setup Slacware 13.1 x86_64 to a encrypted partition. I used the README_CRYPT.TXT howto : [URL] At the step when I create an initrd.gz I get this error: Quote: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp kernel modules tree found for kernel "2.6.33.4-smp"

I tried to look into the directory and there was only modules under 2.6.44.3. So I tried to change the command into: Quote: mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.33.4 -m ext3 -f ext3 -r cryptroot -C /dev/sda2

This command was successful, but I don't know if this is alright. I made the changes in lilo.conf, add initrd = initrd.gz. This is all on unencrypted /boot partition. The boot=/dev/sda1 I also set for the unencrypted boot partition. When I boot the system I get a kernel panic:

OpenSUSE Install :: Starting Xserver After Upgrade / Error Message That Current Kernel Can Not Be Loaded?

May 21, 2011

I was about to do upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4.I was following the guide I found in opensuse's website. I was to the point where I had to disable all 11.3 repositories and add the 11.4 at that point I forgot to change my nvidia repository ( I have a g210m graphic card).

thus after the upgrade the X could not start at all. I think this was because Yast could not find the nvidia driver.

Using text mode YaSt2 I added the nvidia driver but after restart I can not see and X running. I receive an error message that the current kernel can not be loaded!!!

I also checked in command line if there is something like Sax2.. but I couldnot find anything.

Slackware :: Software RAID 1 Versus LILO / Kernel-generic - ERROR: No /sbin/init Found On Rootdev

Jul 1, 2011

I'm currently trying to setup Slackware 13.7 on a server, using software RAID 1. I'm using the README_RAID.TXT document at the root of the Slackware disc as a reference. Anyway, here's what I have so far.

/dev/md1 -> /boot partition
/dev/md2 -> swap partition
/dev/md3 -> / partition

Code:

[root@raymonde:~] # fdisk -l /dev/sd{a,b}
Disk /dev/sda: 41.1 GB, 41110142976 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4998 cylinders, total 80293248 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

[code]....

I created an initrd image using mkinitrd -F, added an according stanza to /etc/lilo.conf and ran 'lilo' after that. Now I can boot on the vanilla huge kernel all right. But I can't seem to boot on the generic kernel. Whenever I try to do this, the boot process stops short on the following error message:

Code:

mount: mounting /dev/md3 on /mnt failed: Device or resource busy
ERROR: no /sbin/init found on rootdev

Slackware :: Kernel Hang During Boot Process - Slack 13.1 Stable W/ Kernel 2.6.33.4-smp

Jun 20, 2010

I installed a fresh copy of Slackware 13.1 (stable) on one of my media servers and I am experiencing something strange.... When I power up the machine, I see the kernel booting, no errors, until it gets to the point where it says:

And then randomly freeze there.... Well the machine is not totally frozen because the cursor still blinks. But it will never continue... Like I said, this happens on a random basis... After a reset, it might go through or simply stall at the same spot.

I remember after installing Slack 13.1, I rebooted the machine but forgot to remove the DVD from the player, so the install routine started up, and froze at the same point when it was loading the kernel for the setup programs...

My mobo is a MSI k9N platinum.

I never had this problem before.... (well I never used 13.1 before). Since I got this machine, I used slack 12.2 and slack 13-current with success.

This problem makes the machine extremely unreliable because I intent to use it as a backup and media server, so chances I will WOL the machine and use it remotely... if that happens.

General :: Why Have Kernel NTFS Team Not Implemented Changes In Driver?

May 10, 2010

A more comprehensive phrased question since I lost access to the other one.I would ask that the other one be deleted, not this one, as it should not have been migrated in the first place.There are currently two NTFS drivers available for Linux.

The NTFS driver included in the kernel, and the userspace NTFS-3G driver that makes use of FUSE.By all accounts, NTFS-3G works perfectly.My question then, is if the NTFS filesystem has been successfully reverse engineered, why have the kernel NTFS team not implemented the changes in their driver? At the moment it is still marked as experimental, and there is a good chance it will destroy your data.

Debian Installation :: Automount Of NTFS Partitions (Jessie Old Kernel)

May 23, 2015

I've just upgraded my system and I'm having some issues to boot with the latest kernel (cf: [URL] ....)

Hopefully I can still use the previous kernel (vmlinuz-3.2.0-4-686-pae).

I'd like to watch a movie that is on an NTFS partition.

From gnome-classic, I went in Places->datas (name of my partition) and I get this error message:

Code: Select allFailed to open "/media/mb/datas".

Error when getting information for file '/media/mb/datas': Input/output error.

The result of a df -h gives me:

Code: Select all/dev/sda3      fuseblk    96G   60G   37G  63% /media/mb/datas

mb is the username I'm currently using.

Previously it was only trying to mount the partition (after asking for the root password) in /media/datas

Is it normal that now it tries to mount it only for my current user in another folder?

If I look in the /var/log/messages, I only see this:

May 22 23:53:06 Tieum-Latitude gnome-session[2092]: Thunar: Failed to open "/media/mb/datas": Error when getting information for file '/media/mb/datas': Input/output error
