The Poulsbo support page here: [URL] suggests that Poulsbo support is broken in 10.10 but 'Excellent' in 9.10. When I installed the driver in 10.10 it installed OK, and works OK except for video playback. When I then tried to install it on 9.10 using the same procedure, it downloaded the drivers but then did not automatically build/install/configure them, and there was no change to the video behaviour. I presume it simply didn't execute the relevant scripts etc after downloading the packages. What might have gone wrong ? What else can I try ? The terminal command I used in both cases was similar to this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install poulsbo-driver-2d poulsbo-driver-3d poulsbo-configThe system is a Dell Mini 12, which uses the Intel GMA500 Poulsbo chipset.

I've been using Debian mostly for years now. Just got Slackware 13 (Xfce4) all set-up really nice. But I can't seem to "kill" or stop the x server to install the nvidia driver. I downloaded the one I know works for my older gforce4 card from the Nvidia website itself (the 96.43.19 one). In Slackware,..when I hit "Ctrl+Alt+F1,...it doesn't go to the prompt! I've tried everything I can think of in the Terminal,..but I admit, I don't really have a clue what I'm really doing,..and Google isn't really turning up much to go on. I even got the driver started in the terminal,...then it "fussed" at me for not killing x.

I've been trying to install the driver for my NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 in Slackware 13.1 with no success. I always get the same error report: the module you're trying to build does not match the kernel source or something like that. The result: unable to build module and the installation crashes.
I have tried to:set a custom kernel source path, install it with the slackbuilds driver and kernel, extract the contents and trying to compile it myself, find possibly conflicting drivers or modules, use different versions of the same driver (I've tried installing the versions 256.53, 256.44, 195.36.31 and 173.14.27)recompile the Linux kernel in an attempt to make sure that the tools used to build the kernel were the same used o build the module.
The only time I got a different error message was when I used the slackbuild packages. It built the 'nvidia.ko' module, but it didn't work. I got a version magic notice when booting and, when I tried to start x, a fatal error "no screens were found."
Just to be sure, I made a clean full install of Slackware (only added WICD to be able to download the drivers and ran slackpkg update and upgrade all) and tried again. It didn't work.

I have been unable to boot my CoreExpress Atom Z530 based board from flash, because my 2.6.31.6 kernel does not seem to have support for the (US15W chipset) IDE controller configured. I have read many web links that point to CONFIG_PATA_SCH as the key, but that does not work for me. I _can_ boot RedHat 2.6.18-164.e15 which does not have CONFIG_PATA_SCH configured, but I believe they are using initrd.

The intel <Xorg> driver provides 2D and 3D support for Intel integrated graphics chipsets, including the i810, 915{G,GM}, 945{G,GM,GME}, 946GZ, 965{G,GM,Q}, G33, Q33 and Q35; the <GMA 500> is not supported.
Packaged for Debian as xserver-xorg-video-intel. [url] [url] [url].
Poulsbo is the codename of Intel's second-generation ultra mobile PC chipset. Its GMA 500 graphics core is not supported by the intel Xorg driver; ITP xserver-xorg-video-psb filed as Debian bug #533450.
Poulsbo (chipset) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - [url]
Poulsbo's graphics core GMA 500 is currently not well supported by Intel for the Linux platform.
However there is a quite easy way to have the drivers work on any Debian-based distribution, thanks to the Ubuntu sources and packages, for the linux kernel 2.6.30 (with newer kernel it would need a little hacking but seems still possible while the sources are included).

Fairly recent enough system. nvidia 6200.
Full install of slackware. then i use these instructions to install drivers:
Quote:
Install nvidia driver in Slackware Linux
Before begin the nvidia driver installation, you must make a copy of the original /etc/X11/xorg.conf as a backup. Use the copy command example below:
If you choose to install the nvidia driver that you download from nvidia website, you must close kde or x-window and install the driver from Linux command line terminal.
Copy the driver to the directory that you placed all third party software such as /usr/local/src. This is not necessary, just a good habit. To install the driver, run the nvidia driver with the sh command like in the example below.
Now, you just need to answer all the questions to configure nvidia driver and the nvidia installation program will do the driver and kernel installation for you.
When i startx the computer freezes with an underscore in the top left hand of screen and i can't switch between tty's.
I know the pc and card work fine with other linux and win os's.

I have just installed Debian Wheezy on an E6XX Intel platform and after loading ramdisk, the screen goes black and I cannot use the system.
*) In the beginning, I tried to pass "nomodeset" in Grub, but after loading ramdisk, it tries to change screen's resolution and it goes blank.
*) gma500 output in dmesg can be seen in [1] at the bottom of this page.
*) I tried passing "GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=640x480" + update-grub, but it keeps failing.
*) I examined EDI's monitor output through "sudo get-edid |sudo parse-edid" (see [2] below), it seems that it is not possible to get the EDID information from the screen correctly. However, I am using this screen with xrandr with Debian Squeeze and I have no problems.

Well, it's a long story, but to make it short I foolishly upgraded my wife's netbook many months ago to 10.04, not knowing that the new xserver version will cause me lots of grief with the gma500 driver. Back then, I ran an update that completely borked my system, and my only fix was to do another clean install. Since the, I just did not do any more upgrades.
So, months have gone by, and the netbook has not had any upgrades. I've read some instructions in the gma500 megathread on how to safely upgrade the system. To start, I had to purge the psb-kernel-source, do upgrades, and reinstall the psb-kernel-source and the other poulsbo drivers. I did all that, and now it boots to a black screen. I can't ctrl-alt-f1 to a terminal session either.
I really don't want to do another clean install. With the crappy broadcom driver as well, it's a real chore. And because of the crappy broadcom driver, I can't figure any way to get a wifi connection from the command line either.

I'm trying to bring my Slackware system back to life as my XP HDD is dying... I've got everything working except for my audio. I got a new motherboard (ASRock P43DE3) and it has a VIA VT1708S as the onboard audio. Is there any way I can get this working without rebuilding the kernel?

I've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration. If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

Does anyone know if I need to build the proprietary ATI drivers specifically for 32-bit, or do the 64-bit packages take care of 32-bit compatibility? If so, how would I do that?
I tried:
Code:
But the package has the same files as its 64-bit counterpart. The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to get Neverwinter Nights working and a post I found mentioned this problem.
I get a single line error: "Failed to initialize graphics."

I have just installed Slackware 13.0 64 bit on my laptop. I am trying to get my wireless card (Broadcom BCM4318) to work. It is dual boot with Windows XP 32 bit. I tried the ndiswrapper and everything seemed to go okay but when I ran ndiswrapper -l it said it was the wrong driver. Then I realized I was using the 32 bit driver from my windows install. Is there a 64 bit driver available. I can't seem to find one. I have searched the broadcom site but I guess this is too old for them to support. I previously used Zenwalk 32 bit on the laptop and ndiswrapper worked great. Should I be able to find a 64 bit driver or can I get the 32 bit to work? Do I need to go back to a 32 bit OS? I found the proper driver using google, downloaded, installed with ndiswrapper, rebooted and everything works. It connected automatically.

I've just installed Slackware 13.37 x64.Right now, everything is fine! All hardware OK, sound OK, Network/WiFi OK, nVIDIA Proprietary drivers OK, KDE Composite OK, Desktop effects OK.But when initializing, the messages pass very slow!My lilo framebuffer settings are 1024x768x64 (Code 791, 317 in Hex), my Graphics card is an nVIDIA GeForce 9100 M G (256Mb), but yet, I can see it refreshing like an image loading in 56Kbps connection.
I really would like to use framebuffer during boot (Oh, come on... The little penguin is kinda neat :-), so I'll ask... Is there a way to use my graphic driver in framebuffer, or make it faster?

I've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.
Here's a backtrace (for what it is worth):
Code:

I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:
X.Org X Server 1.7.5
Release Date: 2010-02-16
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Slackware 13.1 Slackware Linux Project
Current Operating System: Linux speedy 2.6.33-smp #2 SMP Sat Feb 27 20:12:16 CST 2010 i686
code....
It seems I'm still using the vesa driver, any ideas on why the intel isn't being used and how to fix it?

i have 2 nic's that use the same 8139too module to be operated.so in order to run them i added in /etc/modprobe.d/a file with 2 aliases for the 2 nics alias eth0 8139too alias eth1 8139too and I added a udev rule to give the name eth1 to the 2nd card (the 1st card already had a rule) i still don't get the 2nd rule to be brought up automatically at start up... ifconfig only returns 'eth0' and i have to manually do 'ifconfig eth1 up' at which time the interface is brought up nicely.. then i do a dchpcd to get a network address and im all set. but i would like to do this automatically... note that i know that if i add static ips in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf i will get both ifs up... but i wonder how its gonna happen with the 2nics being 2 dhcp clients.
