View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes support exist for the MacPro1,1's front headphone port yet? Strangely I cannot get either of the rear analog audio ports to work either. I have tried setting
options snd-hda-intel model=imac24
options snd-hda-intel model=macpro
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
and totally removing the line of the alsa-base.conf file. I restarted after each of these tests. Only the imac24 option does anything, activating the front speaker, but none of the 1/8" analog ports work then. I run Ubuntu exclusively on this box, so I would really love to get some sort of output other than the internal speaker working. Ideally this would be the front headphones jack, but I am not too picky.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a problem with my Slackware installation after upgrading to slackware-current. I made a clean 13.1 install on my laptop, then I logged in as root, connected to the net and upgraded to slackware-current. Then, after rebooting, I try to log in to kde as root but I get this error:
Code:
kdestartupconfig4 does not exist or fails. The error code is 127. Check your installation. After getting these errors, I made a completely new fresh installation but I got the same errors again.
I even added another user with the adduser command just in case that was the problem but that didn't help. I can't log in to KDE.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to convince the "higher ups" in a small office of about 15 users about migrating from windows to Slackware, one question I have is how long after a release are security updates available? I subscribe to the security mailing list and often see updates that go as far back as Slackware 8.0. What would the safe number be? 5 years, 10 years? Longer? Any input would help me with my cause of eliminating windows all together.

Well, it's a long story, but to make it short I foolishly upgraded my wife's netbook many months ago to 10.04, not knowing that the new xserver version will cause me lots of grief with the gma500 driver. Back then, I ran an update that completely borked my system, and my only fix was to do another clean install. Since the, I just did not do any more upgrades.
So, months have gone by, and the netbook has not had any upgrades. I've read some instructions in the gma500 megathread on how to safely upgrade the system. To start, I had to purge the psb-kernel-source, do upgrades, and reinstall the psb-kernel-source and the other poulsbo drivers. I did all that, and now it boots to a black screen. I can't ctrl-alt-f1 to a terminal session either.
I really don't want to do another clean install. With the crappy broadcom driver as well, it's a real chore. And because of the crappy broadcom driver, I can't figure any way to get a wifi connection from the command line either.
Desktop effects were working until a resume from suspend failed. After that, it says that desktop effects cannot be enabled due to a technical issue, but it does not say what that issue is, it is not the same dialogue box that says check your X config file, it says it directly in the settings menu. I tried deleting ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc, but it only works once. If I log out and then back in, KDE freezes while loading, forcing me to ctrl + alt + backspace to kill X.
After that, I can log back in, but desktop effects don't work and when I go to enable them I see the same error, and it won't let me. My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1950PRO. AMD does not support that GPU anymore and the drivers are too old for them to work on Slackware64 13.37. This means I am using the open-source drivers that come with Slackware64 13.37. I just found out that desktop effects are causing the resume from suspend to fail.
i'm newbie here.when i try to use gd in my web application,it says that i didn't install gd support.howto install php gd support to my existing php installation? i use php 5.2.9 for slackware.
Code:

I downgraded a computer a couple of weeks ago from -current to 13.1. At that point in time the USB support in my Virtualbox stopped working. Since then I have installed Virtualbox on my wife's laptop, which also runs 13.1, and the USB support doesn't work there either. So I tried it on yet another 13.1 box that I have lying around no USB support. Then I upgraded the latter box to -current and USB works! Given that sequence of events, I'm pretty sure this is a Slackware 13.1 problem rather than a Virtualbox problem. what might be causing this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedJust wondering as I couldn't find anything regarding when official slackware support ends for 12.2?
And, does that assume that sbopkg support for 12.2 would also end at same time?
I read this on Patrick's twitter: Considering compiling future 32-bit x86 Slackware packages for i686 and finally leaving i486 and i586 support behind. Would the devs mind sharing why the change hasn't been made? I'm guessing there must be a lot of Slackware users with 15-20 year old computers that want to run the latest software.
View 14 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I tried out Fedora 14, but it didn't really live long. However, I have now Slackware on my netbook again. While I was trying Fedora I installed Clementine and I had to install an extra mp3 lib (I installed Fluendo MP3) to enable mp3 support. On my main machine I have also installed Slackware and Clementine and I can play mp3, so I ponder where's Slackware's mp3 lib? I egrep'ed /var/log/packages for "mp3" but I couldn't find any appropriate. Does Slackware use a shared mp3 lib or is the mp3 support in all the programs?

Is it my netwerk @ Home (with an old Windows Server in it) or is something missing in the installation? Under MS windows (from within a virtualbox, brigded network) both machines can browse the network just perfectly: I even got a XP machine 'joined' in the domain on the windows server). Clueless since a google on the error + slackware give me Zero. Zeroconf in the slackware forum give me some midly related
I use Slackware 13.37 32-bit version on ThinkPad X60s. I compiled two Window Maker dockable applications monitoring the processor temperature, fan speed, and battery status: wmpower (see: [URL]) and wmlenovo (see: [URL]). Both these applications refuse to work.
wmpower displays the messages:
Code:
CPU frequency scaling available
No power management subsystem detected
No power management support...
wmlenovo displays the message:
Code:
No ACPI support in kernel
Did I missed something obvious during the configuration of the system and ACPI doesn't work for me or there's some more serious problem with my system?
Dose Slackware 13.37 have printer support if so which desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a long time (1.something) slackware user and maintainer of a mirror site.I'm suddenly having problems with my favorite distro. (1) I've been mainly running Slackware64. When I was experiencing recent problems on a Slackware (32) 13.1 system, I discovered the huge-smp kernel does not support more than 4G of RAM. This is an obvious bug, and I am shocked that there is no fix out yet. Surely I can't be the only Slackware 32 user with >4G of RAM. I've verified it on a 12G i7 system and an 8G Athlon64-X2 system.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Slackware 13.1, just messing around with some stuff before I upgrade to 13.37. I really want to get a decent build of Desmume working, but the 3D engine for it requires OSMesa to be enabled. I've removed the initial Mesa package that I installed from the Slackware DVD and I'm trying to recompile mesa-7.8.1 so that OSMesa is available for the system. However, I keep running into problems.
Code:
./configure --enable-gl-osmesa
When I run those options for the configure command and compile it, Mesa builds alright and gives me a working libGL just fine. It also gives me libOSMesa. Yet, when I compile Desmume to specifically use OSMesa, its configure script says that it can't find OSMesa at all. But running ldconfig -p, the output shows libOSMesa.so in /usr/lib. The symlink is up to date too, and I've recreated it several times.
Code:
./configure --with-driver=osmesa
When I build Mesa using these configure options, I don't get libGL (well, that's expected, the manual says as much will happen). But apparently libOSMesa is installed just fine. When I went to compile Desmume, no gripes about OSMesa, but Desmume needs both libGL and OSMesa to work properly.
So my question is, how can I install Mesa so that I have OpenGL and OSMesa working together? I've been able to get one working, but not both. I don't know how to get OpenGL on Slackware without using the Mesa package, but the package isn't cooperating. I'm on Intel graphics too.
Whatever option i specify with ./configure, the summary says :
jack-audio-connection-kit 0.118.0 :
| Build with ALSA support............................... : false
i tried --enable-alsa without success.
I built kerberos, and added --with-krb5 to the postgresql build. It failed with this error : configure: error: could not find function 'krb5_sendauth' required for Kerberos 5
