Slackware :: Enable S-video Output On ATI Radeon 4850 ?

I try to connect my graphic card with my TV. I have ATI Radeon 4850 card with 7 pins S-video output and I want to connect it my TV using s-video to RCA cable (the RCA output is yelow, red and white, I assume the 7 pins has audio signal as well).
My card doesn't have problem when connect it wit my monitor via DVI, but the S-video out is not detected. How can I enable it? Can I configure the card from KDE? If so, how?
I'm using the driver from Slackware package and I'm using Slackware 13 stable 64.

I am currently running Linux Mint Debian Edition (based on Debian Testing). I have installed an ATI Radeon 4850 w/ 1GB RAM. I am using FGLRX, and Catalyst Control Center seems to be working. However, even though I have selected "Override Application Settings" in CCC, I get no AA whether it be during gaming (Urban Terror) or in Compiz (3D Cube).

I have been trying to install the FGLRX driver for a Radeon HD 4850. According to this page and others on the web, it says that Xorg 7.5 isn't supported by the driver. I was just wondering is it possible to install Xorg 7.4 on Fedora 12, if not what release of Fedora should I use (i.e does Fedora 11 support Xorg 7.4?)

I realize that Canonical is not responsible for the Catalyst driver, but I can't seem to operate outside of the Ubuntu Classic (no effects) mode for 64 bit Natty, and I was curius if anyone else had encountered or resolved this.
When I upgraded from 10.10 (I was using the fglrx package), xorg would immediately crash. I was able to reach the gdm screen only using recovery mode. I uninstalled the fglrx package, and now I can boot into Ubuntu Classic (no effects) mode only (no other desktop will work) using the open-source driver at no greater than 1280x1024.
When I try to re-install the catalyst driver using aptitude or Administration->Additional Drivers, the installation fails:
(jockey.log: WARNING: modinfo for module fglrx failed: ERROR: modinfo: could not find module fglrx)
Similarly, package generation from the AMD page fails:

I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.
This is how I got it to work.
I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop
added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.

My notebook thinkpad w500 has two video cards, intel / radeon. When i test some 3d games by wine or some videos by mpv using dri_prime=1 to dynamic enable radeon card, the game/video window always tearing, see bug report [URL] ....
So I try to start second xserver directly use radeon card, command like this:
$xinit /usr/bin/openbox-session -- :1 -ac -configdir radeon (/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config already changed to allowed_users=anybody)
I put 20-radeon.conf into /etc/X11/radeon, which is:
Section "Device"
Identifier "radeonGPU"
Driver "radeon"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "DRI" "3"
EndSection
If i just put 20-intel.conf into /etc/X11/radeon (just use intel IDG), the second xserver runs ok. Just using radeon DIS the second xserver started without any conntected output. run DISPLAY=:1 xrandr could confirm that, all disconnetted, so it's black screen on second xserver vtn, and default xserver vt7 still ok.
Am i missing something to config second xserver using radeon DIS, or it's not possible...

So here is my problem In short, I am having trouble enabling hardware rendering on my Radeon 7000. As a result, games run slow, and Compiz refuses to run. ATI Radeon 7000, uses the open-source driver that already comes installed (Mesa, I think it is called) Here are outputs of different commands I think you might find useful. Let me know if you want anything else.

I have installed a 9200 Radeon (the card says 9250 on it, but computer reads as 9200) on a AMD Sempron 2500+ 64 bit,Ubuntu 10.04 Gnome 2.30.2, Kernel Linux 2.6.32-26; Samsung VGA 941BW monitor.
A friend told me if I added more RAM (512mb), the card would run properly & the graphics would be stellar.
He also told me the drivers were installed.
When I did this & started the computer, before I got to my login, a box appeared, telling me my graphics were running in "Low Mode", & do I want to configure them. When I said "Yes", it told me to restart. When I did, nothing happened & the video card is still running on "low". I checked the fglrx info, and was told "command not found".

Fedora 12, latest kernel, x86_64.
I have an Asus M4A78L-M motherboard that has integrated ATI Radeon HD3000 video. Should I be looking for a driver specific to the integrated video, or should I be looking for a driver specific to the motherboard? I'm not sure if I should look for something different if the video is integrated onto the motherboard, as opposed to a separate video card. I recently installed Slackware Linux 13.1 , and my Wireless is down. I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

I realize this is a subject that has likely been brought up before, but I haven't come across a solution as of yet.

but as soon as I restart the machine, the video tearing is back. Is there a way to fix it completely?
or, failing that, could a script be written to automate this so it runs on startup each time?

I am trying to install video drivers for the ATI radeon x1200 card on my laptop.
1. Download and install from AMD catalyst = fail. keep getting error 454 Bad Substitution.
2. Try "Additional Drivers" = nothing here.
3. Try "Synaptic Package Manager" search "fglrx" find one that looks right, let it install dependencies = fail. (maybe this is where I should be?)
4. Try this guide, however its a bit outdated. Get stuck on the repositories .deb files.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP Desktop with an ATI Radeon 2600 pci card that has four outputs. I want to run the same 3-monitor array that I had in windows. Is it possible to get this thing running and configured right in Linux? At the moment I can only get it to send a signal to 2 monitors. I installed the drivers step by step from the manufacturer, but I can't seem to get a signal to all 3 monitors.

I had planned to use my Samsung LED-TV (UE40B6000) as a secondary display connected to the DVI port (my 5:4 display is connected to the VGA port). But there are only two modes I can get it to work with: 1280x1024@60Hz and 1280x1024@75Hz. _All_ of the other modes produce a "unsupported video mode" on the TV screen. Now here's the thing, it works fine under Windows, I can easily set the LED-TV to 1920x1080@60Hz as described in the TV's manual, i.e. just choose the settings under Windows (no extra driver required). So, I thought I might have messed up my Ubuntu system some way. I tried with both Ubuntu 10.04 and openSUSE 11.3 live CDs producing the exact same results - only 1280x1024 produces a picture.
I switched modes using the "gnome-display-properties" tools which reports a Samsung Electric Company 7" display offering all the modes it should (incl. 1920x1080@60). As this didn't work I used xrandr to switch with the same results. After that I started fiddling with a /etc/xorg.conf file for the better part of last night with ModeLines and suggestions (gtf ...) from all across the internet, too numerous for me to remember, especially since I basically took whatever came along (not a very structured approach - I know, but I got somewhat desperate). Nothing worked, nothing at all.

I've recently hooked up my pc to my very old TV-set and I've managed to get TV-out (S-video) working fairly quickly.BUT, I'm having a weird issue. The picture on the TV-set is distorted with 'white-lines' running through it horizontally.Its difficult to describe, but it looks a little like a sheet of writing-paper splashed across the screen... I've searched around and haven't found a solution yet. The weird thing is, that running windows, I get no such display corruption.I'm using the very latest xf-video-ati driver atop a r300 (radeon 9600) card. I recently got a new ATI HD 4890 graphics card that supports sound over HDMI. It works in my other OS (Windows 7) but I cannot get it to work in Xubuntu. I read somewhere that by default the open source drivers have HDMI sound disabled. How do I turn it on? I even tried the Comprehensive Sound Problems Solutions Guide and still have no sound.

I'm attempting to get Debian (Squeeze, latest net-install CD) working on a Power Mac G5 Quad with a Radeon X1900 Mac edition video card (PCI-Express.) The installer acted a bit weird right from the start, telling me that the step "Install the system" failed (with nothing in the way of useful error information,) but I got the base system installed at least. It booted fine to framebuffer console, so I set about installing GNOME on it. apt finished with nary a complaint, but when I rebooted, I found that when it's ready to launch into X, it chokes up and just sits there with a blank screen and a cursor. (Weirdly, though, the screen itself flickers on and off at a high rate, faster than the actual cursor blink.)
Framebuffer console still works, at least, so I was able to boot into single-user mode and do some investigating in my own limited capacity for this stuff (by which I mean "Google error messages and see what specifics are requested.") lspci -k shows the video card properly with the manufacturer and product name, so it is recognizing it, at least. When I try Xorg -configure, though (Xorg 1.7.7, it says,) it aborts with a "No DRICreatePCIBusID symbol" message. Checking dmesg gives me a "process Xorg mapped non-existing PCI legacy memory" message, followed by an "invalid ROM contents" message underneath.
I'm not sure what all to make of this. I've found a thread about problems getting the same basic setup (G5 Quad, X1900, Debian) to work, but it's a couple years old and the symptoms are different. There's some discussion there about the radeon/radeonhd driver looking for Atom BIOS information on non-Atom BIOS cards, which would explain the "invalid ROM contents" message, but on the other hand, if lspci recognizes the card properly, would that be the problem? I don't know. Obviously it's playing nicely enough to run framebuffer console output properly, but beyond that I have no idea. I'd really like to get this working - it'd really improve things over the GeForce 6600 it came with...

With Karmic there's some support for the ati radeon 7000 ve, but it's the default driver with limited or no 3d function. Previous distros supported radeon 7000 ve. Is it likely to expect that Lucid will not support this video card.

When I don't install the packages for my ATI graphic cards (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati and radeontool), everything looks fine while my laptop boots and my desktop looks fine when the boot ends. Except that i can't look video or play games cuz it lags too much...which is normal. When I install the packages for my graphic card (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati et radeontool), I can play games, watch videos, but I notice this: when my laptop boot, just before the login screen, I get messy graphic problems...Looks like a broken old tv. Once I login, my background image is covered with white stripes...

I was looking at purchasing a radeon x1300 for a multimedia pc for my lounge and was wondering if anyone knew whether hardware video acceleration with this card was supported with ubuntu? I read that on the ati website that it does support mpeg2,4, etc video acceleration,but didn't know if this was so for ubuntu. I have a few bluray quality movies that I would be interested in playing, so hardware video acceleration is a must.

I recently bought 1GB video card of 'xfx radeon hd 5450'. It came with cd for drivers of windows.
I installed fglrx. Still in ubuntu 10.10 (lucid) I ran: lspci -v | grep -i prefetchable
which shows 256M which is video memory of my ASUS motherboard.
