Slackware :: Broadom 4311 And Broadom Sta Driver Not Working
Feb 21, 2010
so I was originally trying to set up my wireless using b43-fwcutter and the b43 driver from linuxwireless.org. I was not having much luck getting that to work however with my broadcom 4311 chip so I switched to using broadcom's driver which I found here.
[URL]
I removed b43 modules and added modules for this driver and installed it but I still can't figure out why I can't get a connection. Below I've included relevant console outputs
Code:
root@darkstar:/etc/rc.d# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1b:24:4e:5c:11
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

I am running kde ubuntu 10 on a gateway laptop with a Broadcom bcm series wireless network card. network manager 7.0 is installed. the broadcom STA wireless driver is also installed. Network manager sees the network and I can select the network and it shows as active yet I have no connection. The wired connection works fine.

I'm trying to bring my Slackware system back to life as my XP HDD is dying... I've got everything working except for my audio. I got a new motherboard (ASRock P43DE3) and it has a VIA VT1708S as the onboard audio. Is there any way I can get this working without rebuilding the kernel?

my laptop is ASUS U41JF with Intel Core i3-380M and nVIDIA GeForce GT 425M, everything on my Slackware64-current is fine except the video driver.I have tried both ways:1. Packages from Slackbuild(260.19.29)2. Driver from nvidia offical website(260.19.36)Both methods fails because the screen turns black when I set nvidia driver in xorg.conf ans start X. The laptop even stops responding with the second method. The followings are my xorg.conf and log of XorgQuote:

Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0

I started a thread asking for advice in the hardware forum. I didn't want to post a duplicate thread, but I was unable to get it moved here, so I'm kindly asking you slackers to help me install the aforementioned driver.

I've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration. If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

Does anyone know if I need to build the proprietary ATI drivers specifically for 32-bit, or do the 64-bit packages take care of 32-bit compatibility? If so, how would I do that?
I tried:
Code:
But the package has the same files as its 64-bit counterpart. The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to get Neverwinter Nights working and a post I found mentioned this problem.
I get a single line error: "Failed to initialize graphics."

I installed it on a Dell Inspiron 531 with the GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 built in video card. From the recommend driver list I installed NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended
Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a sudo chmod +x <file> which I did, and it starts to open and I get You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Im starting to get a little frustrated here, guess Im just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.

I recently bought the Alfa AWUS036h which uses the Realtek rtl8187 chipset. I am able to load the module and connect to any network, but its almost as soon as I try to load a page the connection drops. It never stays connected for more than 30 seconds. My other computers using the same adapter in the same spot work fine, unfortunately there not running slackware. I've tried compiling the newest stable kernel and checked the rd.inet1.conf settings.

I have Slackware 13.1 with kernel 2.6.37. Everything is working fine, except that I can't mount any CD/DVD and automount is not working either. If I connect any USb to my laptop it doesn't automount, I need to manually mount it. The same case happens with CD/DVD only that I can't mount any CD/DVD even manually. Here's the output:
Code:
bash-4.1# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

I have just installed Slackware 13.0 64 bit on my laptop. I am trying to get my wireless card (Broadcom BCM4318) to work. It is dual boot with Windows XP 32 bit. I tried the ndiswrapper and everything seemed to go okay but when I ran ndiswrapper -l it said it was the wrong driver. Then I realized I was using the 32 bit driver from my windows install. Is there a 64 bit driver available. I can't seem to find one. I have searched the broadcom site but I guess this is too old for them to support. I previously used Zenwalk 32 bit on the laptop and ndiswrapper worked great. Should I be able to find a 64 bit driver or can I get the 32 bit to work? Do I need to go back to a 32 bit OS? I found the proper driver using google, downloaded, installed with ndiswrapper, rebooted and everything works. It connected automatically.

I've just installed Slackware 13.37 x64.Right now, everything is fine! All hardware OK, sound OK, Network/WiFi OK, nVIDIA Proprietary drivers OK, KDE Composite OK, Desktop effects OK.But when initializing, the messages pass very slow!My lilo framebuffer settings are 1024x768x64 (Code 791, 317 in Hex), my Graphics card is an nVIDIA GeForce 9100 M G (256Mb), but yet, I can see it refreshing like an image loading in 56Kbps connection.
I really would like to use framebuffer during boot (Oh, come on... The little penguin is kinda neat :-), so I'll ask... Is there a way to use my graphic driver in framebuffer, or make it faster?

I've been using it since it was put on current and have been having X crash on me repeatedly or getting a black screen from which I can only recover by a hard reboot. This is happening under a couple of different WMs without compositing (so this isn't the same issue that I was having with KDE and xscreensaver).
I'm using the i915 driver with stock 2.6.37.6, but I also tried a 2.6.38.2 kernel but had the same problem with both.
Here's a backtrace (for what it is worth):
Code:

I upgraded to -current last night hoping to improve my Intel 845G graphics controllers functioning in X, I've had to use the vesa driver for stability. The upgrade was completed but KDE seems as slow as ever. Here's some snippets from Xorg.0.log:
X.Org X Server 1.7.5
Release Date: 2010-02-16
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Slackware 13.1 Slackware Linux Project
Current Operating System: Linux speedy 2.6.33-smp #2 SMP Sat Feb 27 20:12:16 CST 2010 i686
code....
It seems I'm still using the vesa driver, any ideas on why the intel isn't being used and how to fix it?

i have 2 nic's that use the same 8139too module to be operated.so in order to run them i added in /etc/modprobe.d/a file with 2 aliases for the 2 nics alias eth0 8139too alias eth1 8139too and I added a udev rule to give the name eth1 to the 2nd card (the 1st card already had a rule) i still don't get the 2nd rule to be brought up automatically at start up... ifconfig only returns 'eth0' and i have to manually do 'ifconfig eth1 up' at which time the interface is brought up nicely.. then i do a dchpcd to get a network address and im all set. but i would like to do this automatically... note that i know that if i add static ips in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf i will get both ifs up... but i wonder how its gonna happen with the 2nics being 2 dhcp clients.

I read over the X11 acceleration in this forum but I'm not having issues with acceleration - running slackware 13 with built in ATI AGP stuff in kernel. Glxgears is putting out what I would expect for a 9600 pro (2500 FPS in the little window). I haven't needed you guys for a very long time but I just formatted Ubuntu (was getting on my nerves) and installed slack 12 on my hp netbook and 13 on my old desktop without a hitch - except this
I NEED BIG DESKTOP! I've searched, I've read, I've wondered! What's the normal setup in xorg.conf for bigdesktop WITHOUT the ATI driver (I ran the driver after building a custom kernel and the installer crashed with "Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version" - I think I should of renamed my kernel path and setup differently or something)? Is BigDesktop ONLY supported with the driver? I know now that the driver wont work for my system - How do I enable bigdesktop with the open source driver I built in?

I've been using Debian mostly for years now. Just got Slackware 13 (Xfce4) all set-up really nice. But I can't seem to "kill" or stop the x server to install the nvidia driver. I downloaded the one I know works for my older gforce4 card from the Nvidia website itself (the 96.43.19 one). In Slackware,..when I hit "Ctrl+Alt+F1,...it doesn't go to the prompt! I've tried everything I can think of in the Terminal,..but I admit, I don't really have a clue what I'm really doing,..and Google isn't really turning up much to go on. I even got the driver started in the terminal,...then it "fussed" at me for not killing x.

I am currently having an issue installing the FGLRX driver in slackware 13.1. I use a customer kernel due to buggy acpi on my toshiba laptop. The steps i took to compile my kernel are as followed. hu
make mrproper in /usr/src/linux directory
patch /usr/src/linux directory
copy kernel config from /boot directory
make menguconfig and load config
the make all
make modules install
i have also tried make install as well
then i mopy system.map the kernel file and config file into /boot directory
edit lilo
reboot ... everything works fine acpi works properly like before.. now the problem comes.. I try to install the fglrx drivers and i get the error message
Code:
Error:
kernel includes at /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp/build/include do not match current kernel.
they are versioned as ""
instead of "2.6.33.4-smp".
you might need to adjust your symlinks:
- /usr/include
- /usr/src/linux
ERROR: I don't have make module
Am I doing something wrong setting up my kernel. Issue on my gentoo box I have.
