Recently I moved from Intrepid Ibex to Lucid Lynx and everything went fine during and post installation except wireless B4311. I tried to install the specific driver from System-> Administration-> Hardware Drivers but it comes out with an error logged in file jockey.log

Network manager sees the network and I can select the network and it shows as active yet I have no connection. The wired connection works fine.

I have a HP Mini 5105 SSD netbook, runing Ubuntu 10.10 with 2Gb RAM. My wireless card is a Broadcom BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n. Its driver is enabled and running. The wired network connection runs fine too. The problem: Wireless stopped working. When I right click on the network icon, the enable network option is clicked, but the "enable wireless" option is listed in dark grey and cannot be clicked on. I have recently updated my kernel version to 2.6.35-24-generic. What I have already tried: this one too I got to know there seems to be a problem with the 2.6.35-24-generic kernel. I have gone into the GRUB menu (it took some time to find out that you have to keep the Shift key pressed during startup for the GRUB menu to show), chosen the older kernel version (2.6.35-23-generic) and then removed the faulty one. Ever since I upgraded to the new Ubuntu, I have been having problem with wireless. In the "Hardware Drivers" I come up with 2 drivers:
1) Boadcom B43 wireless driver
2) Broadcon STA wireless driver
I activated the first one, but latter noticed that the wireless was not working, so I tried installing the second and it returned this message:

after having tried out almost all suggestions found here and elsewhere on the internet, i'm somewhat at my wits end The situation: I'm running Kubuntu 32Bit Version (at the mom 10.4) on a HP-Compaq 6735s (AMD Processor, Vanilla 32Bit Install). My first Install was last year with 9.4 and the Broadcom 4322 wireless worked like a charm after installing the proprietary STA-driver under System -> Hardware Drivers. As the update didn't work out really without glitches, i did a fresh install and lost my wireless. I tried various combinations and tutorials but to no avail. My card is found, the driver installed, but i cannot access my access-point. I can SEE the access point (and all my neighbors'), but knetworkmanager does not seem to do anything. To be sure, I installed wicd (nice tool by the way). Trying a connect here told my my credentials were bad (incorrect passphrase for my WPA2 Personal auth), which is not true. I tried connecting without security, didn't get an IP. So it seems somehow the card is working, but all functions needed for passing information to the access-point are unavailable.
This is what I tried:

installing the driver by hand
Installing the driver via Hardware Drivers produced the same results as any other, viz the card is working, but not connecting. Unfortunately knetworkmanagers error messages are a bit sparse, or rather non existant. My guess is that somehow the firmware is not properly loaded (or the wrong type??).

I have a DEll Mini 9 - it has worked fine even though it has a limited memory. But Husband only uses to have a surf. It now wont connect to net. The Broadcom4312 Wireless Card is not working on Obunto. It has a Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini card installed and Obunto Edition Version 8.04 Have phoned Dell and after several calls on Hold for over 15 mins each time and getting nowhere fast i am coming to you guys/girls. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running Karmic since it was officially released on my Dell Studio 17 (specs are in my signature) with a Broadcom wireless half mini wireless card.hen I installed Karmic, it gave me the option to install proprietary drivers for my video card as well as 2 Broadcom drivers, STA and one of the BC43 drivers. I installed all of these, and the only problems I had were with the audio. I spent a few days troubleshooting the audio and finally got PulseAudio set up for my card.
Almost 3 months later, I was making use of my wireless network at home, as I had done plenty of times over the previous 3 months, when I closed the lid (thus putting the computer into sleep mode) and took it to the hospital to stay with my fiancé¥ after her surgery. When I got to the hospital, I couldn't get their network to show up. Network Manager didn't even recognize the network. We had also brought my fianc饧s laptop (same machine with a slightly less powerful CPU and only 4 GB of RAM). She is running Windows 7, which detected the hospital's network with no problems.After trying to ad-hoc the hospital network with no success, I finally just gave up and played Sudoku and toyed with some graphics stuff in GIMP until we came home. Upon returning home, however, I was shocked that my card didn't even detect our home network.
I have been unsuccessful for the past 3 days in getting Network Manager to identify our wireless network. The wired network connects without issue and I am able to make use of a USB Belkin adapter, which identifies all 7 of the various wireless networks in my neighborhood, including our home network.While I would be able to simply carry my Belkin adapter with me in order to make use of wireless networks, I would really like to solve this problem with my Broadcom adapter. I have installed b43 with the install script and I can see all wireless networks fine, but NetworkManager just keeps asking me for the WPA passphrase, despite it being correct. I tried disabling WPA on the router, but then the connection hangs at "Configuring interface" instad. I also tried with ifup, but I'm not sure I configured everything correctly. I don't get any smarter from the NetworkManager logs, maybe someone else can decipher them? tail -50 when connection doesn't work:

When I first had partitioned, and formatted appropriately, I installed the newest version of Ubuntu available (Time of posting 10.4), on the partition made with bootcamp, rebooted into Linux with rEFIt Now once I booted into 10.4 I got to the desktop, it started asking me about restricted hardware drivers, so I went into System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, It then searched for the drivers, it found the STA driver, and the B43 driver, I am unable to allow both. So I went on to try ndiswrapper, I downloaded it off another pc, compiled and installed on the iMac. then I got the driver off the Leopard install disk, put that on my flash drive, extracted the files from the installer, put that on the flash drive, then I went back over to the machine in question, copied the file to the desktop, I used the cd command to navigate to the folder, then ran ndiswrapper -i bmcwl6.inf, I made sure that the inf and sys files were in there, so I didn't know what was going on exactly.
So then I went into the software sources, and enabled the cd as a software source, then went into Synaptic, and installed the drivers, it said the install was successful, however when I go back to enable it, will still refuse to activate, I have looked all around for solutions, I have even checked out other threads on this matter. The funny thing seems to be, is that everyone, or almost everyone who has this card on their computer, are upgrading to 10.04, when it worked on a previous version.
Windows is shit so im trying out this Ubuntu but i cant get the wireless to work. The light is orange(should be blue) Ubuntu only recognizes the wired network.I cant find a wireless device anywhere is like is not connected... I just installed latest stable Debian (KDE) on my laptop, Dell Vostro 3400, which uses Broadcom 4313 (I think) wireless controller. I did install the proprietary driver package from Debian called breadcom-sta-common<version no>.deb. I remember it's the same driver I used for my previous Ubuntu installation. I also installed the KDE Network ManagerFront-End and the wireless tab on the manager is disabled (greyed out). I finally tried the steps from Debian Wiki Wireless section and at the end, when I run "modprobe wl", it says "FATAL: Module wl not found". Is there some more steps I need to do?

I saw some postings that appear very similar but I don't have any Linux experience and don'h to make uncontrolled changes to the environment without expert advice.Background: I have an old laptop (HP Pavilion dv9000) with Vista installed and a troubled history (overheating motherboard failure), so I put it on the shelf and replaced it with a new Windows 7 laptop (Dell Studio 1555). But I have been intrigued by the Ubuntu reviews and thought I would dig out the old laptop and install Kubuntu 11.04 (replacing the 2 Vista partitions with a single Kubuntu partition).
Kubuntu installation was easy and I am impressed by the Kubuntu interface, but I soon noticed that it was not detecting my wireless router, which works fine for everything else (Dell, Sony Bravia TV and also an internet radio). The wired connection is okay (using it now) so I guessed the problem was Kubuntu notognising the Broadcom BCM4311.The network interface tool shows the wired connection but the Wireless tab is greyed out.I also installed Wicd Network Manager but that just confirmed what I knew.I noticed other threads have asked for the lspci and lsusb details so here they are:

I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.

I have a Broadcom 4312 in a HP Pavilion dv6. I checked the repository but no driver shows up. I seem to remember that it used to be there. Or am I mistaken and do I need to install the vendor driver from the Broadcom site?

I've got a Dell Inspiron mini 10 that has the Broadcom 4322 wireless chipset in it. I have NEVER got this thing to work satisfactorily despite the numerous tutorials online about getting this damned card to work. I thought everything would finally be fixed with 10.04 but no luck at all. I've tried the b43 diver (which isn't supposed to support the 4322) with no luck.
I also tried the restricted STA driver, which seems like it will work as it identifies networks and even connects to them! However, the speed is excruciatingly slow and connections drop like flies. This netbook is actually a friends that I convinced to let me put Ubuntu on and have them try it out, but they are most surely not going to be impressed if the wireless never works.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwith some troubles, i finally installed the broadcom wireless driver. it says it's installed and activated, the blue light on the laptop is on saying the wireless is activated, but for the life of me i can't figure out how to make it connect. the only network connection icon i have is the wired one. it's not showing the wireless, or available wireless signals or whatever.
this is my first time using wireless with linux (thought i've been using linux for about 4 years now), so maybe there's some stupid little box somewhere i didn't check or something. any ideas?
the laptop is an HP Pavilion dv9000, the distro is Ubuntu Studio 10.4, and the wireless card is a broadcom, and is installed/active according to the hardware drivers window. i've seen some posters having a problem in 10.10 with everything appearing to work, but just... doesn't. haven't seen a solution for that particular problem though
I have a Dell Vostro 1400 with a BCM4311 Broadcom wireless card that I just reinstalled with 11.04 from 10.04. I have the drives installed and it seams to be working when i run the 'Additional Drives', but I can't get the wireless adapter broadcasting. I followed the instructions given in the knowledge base on installing Broadcom Wireless, to see if I could get it running and that is where I saw the difference between the example and my computer when writing the 'sudo lshw -C network' command. In the example it said it was broadcasting under configuration (just like my wired networks below) and in mine it does not (see below for copy past).
I can't find a tickbox in the systemtray to enable the wirless networking that I had before the update to 11.04 (the 'Enable Networking' tickbox is still there and the wired network works fine - that is how I got online to do this post). I have the hardware switch turned on and I have been in the BIOS and made sure that the Wireless is enabled.Anyone who knows what could be wrong? Where could I go from here?Quote:
