I wrote a small site to search slackware packages containing a wanted file.slak.homelinux.org..It do searches in official slackware repositories and some non official.It is based on PACKAGES.TXT, so all repositories containing it can be used.If a repository contain even the MANIFEST.bz2 file, then this tool can search packages from its content.Results are cliccable link so to download the package directly.

I've never figured out a good program to use with file globbing from http sites. Wget works with ftp sites and file globbing and for mirroring I use lftp, but I would really like to download just the files that start with "xf" from Robby's site.

I noticed that the official Slackware packages don't contain static libraries. The SlackBuild scripts from slackbuilds.org or from Slackware DVD usually contain --disable-static option to prevent building the .a file. And if configure script doesn't allow such option, the .a file is deleted before the package is created.I am wondering what is the reason for that? Is it just the matter of conserving disk space? Are there also other reasons?

I tried to build several packages designed for slackware 13 at slackbuilds. Those was a simple apps like ardour, audacity for example.
[Code]...
My CPU is AMD Phenom 9550 Quad core. It supports 64 bit. My os is slackware 13_64. What do I need to change in slackbuild to create a txz package for those apps?

I am looking for OpenVMS distribution on a thumb drive for a PC. I image it would be a Linux system that automagicly starts a VAX simulator then boots OpenVMS on that. Either it would run live off of the thumb drive or it would install to the system's hard drive.

I'm trying to set up Apache Tomcat with virtual hosting. I've used Caucho Resin before but not Tomcat...and I've run into what appears to be (from Google at least) a rather common problem with Tomcat in that any properly packaged classes under WEB-INF of the default virtual host or the named host are not found and Tomcat complains of a class that "cannot be resolved to a type". I researched this error on Google and the consensus seems to be that: -
- You need properly packaged classes as classes in the default package are no longer allowed. I have done this.
- You need to either fully declare the packaged class to make an instance of it within the JSP or include the via an import statement at the top of the JSP. I have done this.
- In the web.xml for the Tomcat server instance (under $CATALINA_HOME/conf/web.xml) you need to set the servlet mapping for JSPs fork init-param to "true". I have done this also.
Yet the problem persists and I have found no solution. So I can only assume I'm missing something obvious and fundamental. My configuration is as follows: - I have two virtual hosts - one as the default virtual host and another as a named virtual host.
$CATALINA_HOME/webapps/localhost <--- Default host.
$CATALINA_HOME/webapps/www.easicasino.com <--- Named host. The logic being that the URL IP address of the server will hit the default webapp and the URL hostname with hit the named webapp. This appears to work with just JSPs.
My $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml looks like this: -
Code:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<Server port="8005" shutdown="SHUTDOWN">
<Listener className="org.apache.catalina.core.AprLifecycleListener" SSLEngine="on" />
<Listener className="org.apache.catalina.core.JasperListener" />
[code]....

Does anybody know if there is a pre-packaged compiler for assembly language in x86_64 for Fedora for the Motorola/Freescale 68hc11? The GNU binutils are pretty old for this and I am not sure if they work on the Freescale (new) version. I, also, don't think that they are on Fedora's repositories.

I have uploaded some slackware packages to ftp://ftp.herpderp.ca/slackpkg/. These are packages that I haven't been able to find anywhere else and they are all built on a clean slackware 13.0 system using slackbuilds from slackbuilds.org. I will be uploading more in the future as I build them.

I just up-graded to the latest version of the stable 11.4 64bit kernel on my laptop and it appears that the repositories have not compiled the VirtualBox driver module for the current kernel ... When I make /vboxdrv setup the message is:
Recompiling VirtualBox vboxadd kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged
I think this means that the installed module will not recompile has it was packaged. My kernel version is the lattest :
2.6.37.6-0.5-1
And my VirtualBox was installed from the Virtualization repos (4.0.8.11-1) even made the Vendor change and all. The version Before the lattest (4.0.4-1.6) did not work either. With the same problem. It is very easy to install VirtualBox from the Sun site and every time there is a Kernel up-date one can always make /etc/vboxdrv setup.

what the prepackaged proprietary nvidia driver is missing to run compiled OpenCL programs.
I have the pre-packaged proprietary nvidia driver from [URL] and the package is missing some files, like lobOpenCL.so, which I extracted from the .run file and put manually in the /usr/lib64 directory toether with creating some symlinks. I can compile my opencl programs fine (C | // // File: hello.c // - Anonymous - 3BF2vDzc - [URL], Getting started with OpenCL and GPU Computing), but when I run, the firsr opencl-related function clGetPlatformIDs returns an error code.
Again, I try to figure out what the prepackaged driver is missing. If I use the nvidia .run script driver, the problem probably does not exist. CUDA executables run fine (compiled on an other opensuse machine without nvidia card)
opensuse 11.1 64bit, nvidia quadrofx3700 driver version 256.53

I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.

just curious if there was some discussion about reasons (not)-including Lua in stock Slackware packages ? IMHO it perfectly fits to distro's KISS philosophy, is very small and packaging maintenance is very easy (only glibc dependency, simple compilation and installation proces). Slackware contains programming language implementations of Common Lisp, Guile Scheme, Ada 95 which I find more exotic then Lua in these days. I know there are some histroical reasons and keeping continuity but anyway ...

I know this type of upgrade question is asked regularly so I apologise in advance if its annoying.
Im currently running 12.2, and Im wondering when 13.1 may be available? have there been many problems with 13.0? I've been working quite alot so havent been checking in that often lately.
also, would my old .tgz packages work with 13.1, or would I need to rebuild them as .txz?

I'm using a short script when I download the Slackware-(current) packages.
Since it works for me I want to share it. I've added a configurationfile, so anyone can adapt it to his/her requirements.
Note: I don't want to prevent anyone from buying the official DVD, but maybe you'll find it usefull to download the packages when performing a fresh install of current.
Advantage of the script is that one has less downloadsize and one can exclude package-series from downloading (in the conf-file).
Here is the configfile, it has to be saved as "getslack.conf" in the same directory as the script.
Code:
For the installation I use the bootable usb-image or create a minimal install-CD (CD1 without any packages) like here ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/slackwar...nux/README.TXT explained.

I'm compiling the BlueZ packages on Slackware64-13.0 and bluez.Slackbuild failed to run. I added
Code:
mkdir -p $PKG/lib/udev
immediately before
Code:
cp -a scripts/bluetooth_serial $PKG/lib/udev/bluetooth_serial || exit 1
and now the script runs.I don't know why the /lib/udev directory isn't created earlier in the build process for me, but now it builds cleanly.

I'm trying to identify - and eventually uninstall - exotic fonts packages, but unfortunately, the package names in the X group - as well as their descriptions - are not always very helpful.
I'd like to uninstall every font that's not needed to write in either french, german or english, that is: arab, asian, greek and cyrillic fonts, plus the odd exotic font I haven't thought of.
The reason I'm doing this is not some sort of xenophobia on my behalf, but the simple fact that the LibreOffice font selector is quite crowded when all the font packages are installed. Since the desktops I install are primarily used by folks who freshly migrate from Microsoft windows, I've found that a mix of standard latin fonts plus the webfonts (XP + Vista) fonts package from SBo is the most popular solution. At least, that's what I did until now when installing other Linux distributions.

I am using SBOpkg, but for the ~30 3rd party packages I have most of the slackbuilds are already out of date, and I don't expect they will be updated when security issues or whatever arise.
So is the only solution to subscribe to the individual mailing list for each piece of software, or is there a more automatic way?

I installed Slackware 13 last night and have been trying to get bittornado to properly work. Some background info, I have my partitions set up as follows:
Partition 1: /
Partition 2: /usr/local
Partition 3: /home
Partition 4: swap
I unzipped the tar.gz file and made a package using makepkg, and then installed it. Afterwords, trying to run "btlaunchmanycurses" or "btlaunchmanycurses.py" doesn't do anything. Further examining shows me that it installed the package to my / directory. Shouldn't packages be installed somewhere in my /usr dir? I'm new to linux, I spent some time with it a couple years ago but haven't done anything since.
