May 26, 2011I am, as the forum title suggests, new to linux and to programming and having trouble figuring out how to do this.I have a very large XML file with a lot of information in it. I'm trying to get a single tag out of the file, each of these tags contains a single web link and I want to download the file at every single one of those links. I really don't know how to do this.My thought, though its probably not the most efficient or correct way, was to use VIM to search the document and somehow extract all of this one particular tag and then use wget on the links.

That is to say, I tried with and without the recursive option. It ends up downloading an HTML page of a few KB in size, while what I want is in the range 90-100 MB and RAR.
What happens with MediaFire for those who may not be aware, is that it first says

This text after a second or so turns into the download link and reads
Click here to start download..

General :: Configure RTorrent To Stop Downloading After Certain File Size
Aug 26, 2010I am looking for a way to configure rTorrent to stop downloading all torrents after they have downloaded x amount. For example, specify 15mb and as soon as the torrent reaches that size have it finish downloading the pieces it has requested and then start seeding partially completed. The reason for this is I'm trying to come up with a way to build ratio on a site where torrents are added very fast and at a very high frequency.
I download and add the torrents to rTorrent automatically via RSS, but I only want to download a small amount and seed that small piece while there are still a lot of people in the swarm (swarm drops off very quickly) and come out with a positive ratio from that small piece, beating the ratio clock so to speak. I thought it would be an interesting all be it somewhat impractical exercise in shell scripting, if rTorrent can be hooked into like that, documentation is sparse in some areas.

This is what the curl man page says as well. However, for even a simple file with one URL, this command outputs a bunch of weird symbols for me instead of downloading the file.For example, I have a text file "test.txt" with one line in the following format:

Mar 25, 2010I have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?

Jan 9, 2011I've been tinkering around with Linux over the past couple weeks. I've played arodn with both Ubuntu 10.10 and Linux Mint 10 and it's been a 99% positive experience. I have noticed an issue regarding my internet connection.
I've noticed when I download a file in Ubuntu (either from the software manager, BitTorrent or just a regular download in Firefox), browsing the web on my computer becomes near impossible. The download itself runs at a good speed for our DSL connection (around 200 KB/sec) but anything else near a standstill. Just loading ESPN.com on my PC can take a minute or two. Someone else playing a game in the house will go from a regular 100-200 ms ping to 5000+ right when the download starts. When I stop the download, internet browsing and gaming speeds go right back to normal.
The weird thing is the same thing happened when I installed Linux Mint 10. When I boot into my Vista partition, this isn't an issue. Downloading a file in Vista doesn't affect anything, but it's happening every time in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
