Slackware :: C-Media USB Audio Adapter And Snd_usb_audio Module

Apr 20, 2011

I want to use my C-Media USB Audio Adapter with Slackware 13.1

When I connect the device it is shown in lsudb:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0d8c:c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter

Do i need to have the snd_usb_audio kernel module. However when is call modprobe snd_usb_audio I get: Fata: Module snd_usb_audio not found.

I though that snd_usb_audio was not build with the kernel, so I did:

Without making any modifications the .config the file already has CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO=m . Does this mean that the current kernel has that module? If so why I cannot load it?

How do I determine the media type of adatper? For example wireless, bluetooth, ethernet(802.3) etc.?

Another one which is based on getifaddrs is here:[url]

If it's easier to get media type using getifaddrs then I would use this method.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Quality Wiht Logitech Usb Headphones Using Snd_usb_audio

Mar 24, 2010

I have an acer aspire netbook with intel graphics. To get the graphics fully working I had to execute the script from the following page: [URL]...That broke the audio. So, I bought a cheap USB soundcard. I plugged it in, it was recognized and worked immediately. But the sound quality was horrible. Next, I bought some reasonably expensive Logitech USB headphones. They also immediately worked. The sound quality is a bit better, but still bad. One weird thing is that the audio quality improves with increasing CPU usage. What is also interesting is that the sound quality is perfect with bluetooth headphones. So the jitter really seems to be associated with snd_usb_audio somehow. But I have no idea what to do about.

Slackware :: Alfa AWUS036h Rtl8187 Adapter Not Working On Slackware 13.1

Oct 13, 2010

I recently bought the Alfa AWUS036h which uses the Realtek rtl8187 chipset. I am able to load the module and connect to any network, but its almost as soon as I try to load a page the connection drops. It never stays connected for more than 30 seconds. My other computers using the same adapter in the same spot work fine, unfortunately there not running slackware. I've tried compiling the newest stable kernel and checked the rd.inet1.conf settings.

OpenSUSE Install :: WPN111 Wireless Adapter And NETGEAR - Make The Module Load Automatically On Boot ?

Feb 14, 2011

Above adapter can be installed on v10.2 and 11.3 using ndiswrapper:-

1. Copy the 3 driver files from Windows:- like netwpn111.inf, WPN111.sys & ar5523.bin.
(Be carfeul about the exact names, because they have changed over time).

2. sudo ndiswrapper -i netwpn111.inf

3. sudo ndiswrapper -m

4. sudo modprobe ndiswrapper (the adapter should light up at this point and networks will be detected shortly after - see network manager). (Be careful of paths here - e.g. I had to use /sbin/modprobe - so 'whereis' may be necessary to find these commands).

2nd When I reboot, I need to run the modprobe command again. How do I make the module load automatically on boot? Also (and this is minor), can I bypass the KWallet, keyring thing? it seems silly to enter a password for the keyring and then click another password dialog, when I can just as easily enter the password for the network itself.

Hardware :: USB Audio Sound Adapter Not Working?

May 10, 2009

I have no problems with the sound card, however, when I connect a PD552 USB sound adapter into a 4 port hub in order to use headphones it simply doesn't work. I posted the problem on the Ubuntu site and received a suggestion to run lsusb from a terminal. I did this but never received any other replies addressing the issue. This is what I receive from the command. It shows up as device 7 but I have no idea of what my next steps are to insure it will work.

Hardware :: Adapter FROM Usb Plug - On Cable - To Standard Mic - Audio Port ?

Jan 3, 2010

My question regards available hardware... an adapter taking a USB plug_ at end of a mic cable_ which adapter would then connect to the computer's standard audio/mic input.

Anybody seen such an adapter ? After looking an hour or so this morning on USB gadget sites, I found lots of the audio-mic-plug-TO-usb adapters, but this again is the opposite of what I need.

The problem Im having is with older versions of a sound app I use (audacity)_ newer versions of this specifically support USB mics_ but_ that feature is missing in older versions.

Assuming audacity will treat any legal connection via audio port as "mic"

Fedora X86/64bit :: Rhythmbox Keeps Asking For Windows Media Audio Decoder Plugin / Fix It?

Jul 4, 2009

My music library contains some old .wma files and each time I try to run Rhythmbox, a window pops up saying that:

<Name of current song> requires an Additional plugin. The following plugin is required: Windows Media Audio Decoder. Do you want to search for this now ?

If I press the search button I get a response saying that the package was not found. Then I press the close button, only to see the same dialog popping up again. The funny thing is that all this is happening while the current songs is not in WMA format and it is actually playing

I am running fedora 11 and have configured both rpm-fusion and livna repositories.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Media Player - Audio Slowly Desyncing In Movies

Dec 24, 2010

I was wondering if anyone noticed that VLC tends to slowly have audio go out of sync during long video files, like a movie. It's hard to notice at first, but eventually you start to notice the audio moves out of sync with the video.

A quick work around to this problem is that I can always quickly hit pause (the audio tends to play for as long as it is out of sync while the video is paused) then quickly hit play.

I know VLC comes with a feature that allows you to adjust the audio for syncing errors, but I find that a bit redundant as the audio will continuously move out of sync as the movie progresses, and thus would require constant maintenance.

I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there were any solutions for it. This problem seems apparent on my iPod touch 4th gen as well and can be fixed with the same work around, however; the syncing issue does NOT exist on my windows vista PC (note: my ubuntu is on a laptop, not my PC)

Sorry for the walls of text: tl;dr? VLC has audio syncing oddities on my laptop running ubuntu but not on my PC running the dreaded vista. Can I fix it without getting massive migraines as my knowledge of linux is very limited?

Edit: If anyone has a recommendation for a better player that supports various media types, I'd be willing to try it. Open source / freeware.

Slackware :: Getting A Wireless Adapter To Work In 13.1

Oct 11, 2010

So I recently installed Slackware 13.1 and now want to get my D-Link DWA-140 to work with it. However I'm quite an amateur at Linux and can't seem to figure out how to. After following many different how-tos and tutorials this is where I am: I got 2010_0709_RT2870_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1 (supposedly USB driver)package and rt2870.bin (supposedly firmware) in my root catalog. What I have already done with them:

make & make install in 2010_0709~
blacklisting modules 2x00usb, 2x00lib, 2800usb
modprobe rt2870sta
copying rt2870.bin to /lib/firmware

Regardless of everything, my adapter still is not active.. and how can I make the OS load the module at startup?

Slackware :: Connect To Internet With Wireless Adapter?

I know next to nothing about slackware and wireless networks since I have never had to mess with it. I have done my reading and have gotten this far.

1) wirelss card is installed and recognized, its a PCI b/g card that uses the ath5 module. The module is loaded and seems to be working.

2) I have heard wicd is easy so I installed it from /extra and it found my essid and accepted the wep password and it says connected at 45% and shows an IP.

however when I launch firefox or try to ping out nothing happens.
