View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried linux before but I never found one that suited me. I'm now trying kubuntu 10.04 on my mini laptop but I have run into a problem. I have sounds when the computer start and shutdown and other sounds like incoming mail and stuff just not in amarok or any other media player at all nor on ..... and I've been googling it for the last few days and have found others with simular problems but none running Kubuntu 10.04 so I figured I'd give the solutions they got a try but I just can't get them to work on my computer. Might be my lack of linux skill so please go eazy on me and yes I have checked that the audio is not muted. Which codec pack to be installed and how to do it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone noticed that VLC tends to slowly have audio go out of sync during long video files, like a movie. It's hard to notice at first, but eventually you start to notice the audio moves out of sync with the video.
A quick work around to this problem is that I can always quickly hit pause (the audio tends to play for as long as it is out of sync while the video is paused) then quickly hit play.
I know VLC comes with a feature that allows you to adjust the audio for syncing errors, but I find that a bit redundant as the audio will continuously move out of sync as the movie progresses, and thus would require constant maintenance.
I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there were any solutions for it. This problem seems apparent on my iPod touch 4th gen as well and can be fixed with the same work around, however; the syncing issue does NOT exist on my windows vista PC (note: my ubuntu is on a laptop, not my PC)
Sorry for the walls of text: tl;dr? VLC has audio syncing oddities on my laptop running ubuntu but not on my PC running the dreaded vista. Can I fix it without getting massive migraines as my knowledge of linux is very limited?
Edit: If anyone has a recommendation for a better player that supports various media types, I'd be willing to try it. Open source / freeware.
Using (and enjoying) Ubuntu 10.04; I am trying to stream audio from local ABC "(Australian Broadcasting Corp.") which offers "Real Player" or "Windows Media Player" options in its various on-line transmissions. Cannot get either to work. Have loaded Rythmbox but doesn't respond. =
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt has 2 GB of built-in flash memory and slot for MicroSD. I have OpenSuSE 11.3 with GNOME and Windows XP SP3 installed on my Samsung NC10 netbook. In Windows, when I connect player via USB, it recognize player as disk and I can drag files to listen music. I used to that when I insert USB storage device or mp3 player in my netbook running OpenSuSE,automatically mounts device to /media/xxx. But when I connect player to computer, nothing happens. There are no new entries in /dev/ after insertion.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to take advantage of a lot of the software packages that come with Ubuntu, and I am finding an abundance of software for just about everything. So far, the best application for my needs is the Calibre E-Book Reader, and I am wondering if a similar program exists for audio books. Something which would store them altogether, and categorise them by title, date, genre, author etc.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noted in another post that gtkpod was suggested for audio book use. I had a look at the documentation but it did not give any clear indication of this.
Using iTunes it is possible to link all the tracks on 1 CD which makes for uninterupted listening and will also offer the facility to stop and re-start the book from where I left off. Is this available using gtkpod?
My laptop is purely a Linux setup. I am told that I would have to change the BIOS settings which is well beyond my capabilities. As I particularly wish to keep my system pure I need to find the best possible way to work with audio books rather than to capitulate to Microsoft or Apple.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
I am novic user of linux( ubuntu ). I have installed it on my laptop. But I am not able to play any music player/media player. How could I install media player. either from cd or from internet?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run a Home server using Debian, and have been using it as a backup server and using it to host a voice server. I wanted to try streaming music/video so I can enjoy music at remote locations, and I have used VLC media player before, but never on Linux. I located the VLC media player package on the Synaptics Package manger, and told it to download it along with the other additional packages, and it said it had to remove some old packages and incompatible ones as well, so I said go ahead. Well, the screen blanked out at some point during the installation process, so i rebooted the server. Now it will go thru the whole loading process, and where it is supposed to prompt me to log in, it gives me a grey background and my cursor, which does react, but nothing else happens, and the activity light on the server does not flash. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I would enjoy being able to log back into my server XD
I have some knowledge of how to use and work with Linux, but only from what I have read and messed around with.
I have F10KDE and I am looking for a player for my cda formatted music cds, preferably one with a graphic eq.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Fedora user and I've been downloading some software from the repositories. BUT, I found a problem: I can't play ANY media with ANY player; however, I can hear system sounds but music. I've tried several media players (Exaile, Amarok, Audacius) but none of them can play a song. The format of all my music library is MP3. In the pre-installed Rhytmbox and Totem it says something about codecs and searches for them, but finds none.

Big_buck_bunny in ogx streams ok though FF, but if i download it and play using totem same black rectangle instead of video

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I can't get LinuxMCE diskless mds to work I am going to try and use another approach. What I want to do is be able to store media (pics, audio, ripped dvds) on a central server and access the across the network with a media player in Ubuntu or Kubuntu that I can connect to the TV and entertainment system.
What media player to use and how I should set that up? I might use windows server for the shares just because I am used to it unless theres a better way. I have a pretty beefy server just waiting for media files.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the Linux world and I have frankly had hard time using RhythmBox. It's not nearly as user-friendly as iTunes and it's not that I'm any great fan of iTunes! What is a good alternative to RhythmBox that will allow you to play music, download music, and install and play video material in a clean and easy way? I've heard that MPlayer is a decent option but I know there are others as well.
