Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Seem To View Server Website
Feb 9, 2011when i type localhost i can see the page, when i type 127.0.0.1 i can see the page, when i type 192.168.0.30 i can view the page when i type the websitename.dyndns.info i can't seem to view the page or when i type 96.24.144.216 can't see the page.

Jan 29, 2011I am running opensuse with LAMP, and this is my first time setting up this type of server (usually am a windows junkie) My problem i am having is that I am unable to view my website from outside the local network. I have setup my router for a dynamic dns and forwarded all the ports through the router and the local firewall. I ran the apache setup through YAST2 and everything seems fine locally but when i attempt to access it elsewhere its not connecting. computechsolutions.dyndns.biz is the dynamic dns address i have setup through my router.

Feb 2, 2011I try to config my apache server to list all my files: c/c++, php, java files, like the txt file on my server,
e.g /var/www/mydomain/pub
i want to dump all my c/c++, php, java file under the pub directory and I can access it from my domain name,
if I dump txt file, I have no problem to view it, but when I dump c/c++ or php files under pub directory, then I can't view it like regular txt file,
Q: is there anyway I can configure my apache server to view all the c/C++, php, java file as like txt file?

Dec 4, 2010I've got a Joomla website made for me. It is hosted with a hosting company. Here and there i change some of its content, but i want to practice it locally on my computer before i do bigger things on the web, so that if things get into a serious problem it is close at hand to fix it up. I've installed apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. also, I've installed Joomla up and running.
My question is: how do i transport/copy my website from the web into my computer?
I know that I need to transfer the database, where do i put it in my local file system, and what additional commands are required for that?

Jan 26, 2010I have a debian machine with an apache2 webserver. I am able to start the machine from the internet (power plug board with webinterface) but I don't know how to shutdown the server automatically if nobody uses the website anymore. It is a homeserver which should only run if needed.
Unfortunately I don't know much about Linux, apache, php, cgi-scripts, cronjobs and other things that might be useful. But I googled a lot and have now an idea how it could work. It seems complicated to me and so I want to ask you guys what you think about it and if perhaps you could give me a hint.
The idea: A cronjob starts every ten minutes a php script that checks when the index.html of the welcome-page was opened the last time (fileatime()). Lets say it was opened last time at 3pm. Then the php script adds for example 60 minutes to that time (=4pm) and calculates how much time is left to 4pm. This time is saved in the variable $timeleft. Now the php script compares if $timeleft is less then 10 minutes (=600 seconds). If it is, the php script starts a cgi script that will shutdown the server. The cgi script will login as root (I think that can be done with the "expect"-command url and then enter the command "shutdown -h now"
Is all this realizable? Isn't there a better and/or easier way to do?

Feb 9, 2011Having a problem on all of my Ubuntu machines when i goto this address: [URL]... i get a "server not found Firefox cant find the server [URL]... this is only happening on Linux i have a dual boot on an epc with vista and it loads the site. normally i wouldn't even care but my girlfriend will be taking on line classes here and i need to get this to load.

Mar 16, 2010I have several web servers, say myserver1, myserver2, and myserver3, behind a firewall that the higher-ups run. They recently changed the firewall to block all ports except for the ones they want open. I have www.myserver1.com viewable to the outside world, but www.myserver2.com is not viewable to the outside world. I was wondering if there is a way to set things up so that people could go to [URL] and view the [URL] and [URL] website content.
myserver1 is running Solaris 7, which will (hopefully) be upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. myServer2 is running Ubuntu 8.04. myserver3 is running Windows XP. I was wonder if this is possible with any OS, not just mine.

Apr 19, 2010I have a SSH server "SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2" running at IP 1.1.1.1When I try to access it from another machine on the internet which is at 2.2.2.2 every thing goes fine. However when I try to do the same thing from 3.3.3.3 it does not work and Putty throws me this error "Server's host key did not match the signature supplied". I went inside HKEY_Current_userSoftwareSimonTathamPuttySshHostKeys and tried to remove all the known host and still the issue is existing, I am literally scratching my head as to what is going wrong.I Googled about this error and I saw many were having problem similar to mine however none were able to give some conclusive results so far.

Feb 17, 2011I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with apache, rails, mysql, etc. My rails site is running at www.example.com. I'm intending to use named-based virtual hosting and I have a virtual hosts file configured/enabled for www.example.com. My site is hosted on Amazon EC2.
The problem is that if I set up a new DNS record -- say test.example.com -- and browse to that, my site www.example.com is served up! That's without configuring any new virtual hosts. And the same is true if I go to my DNS records and define test2.example.com, etc. Without touching my server, these new URLs serve up my website. That's not what I want! I want to use name-based virtual hosting and host different sites for each subdomain.

UPDATE: now I understand a bit more... apparently my real problem is not what I thought it was. My real problem now appears to be that when I copy this virtual hosts file and edit it to add a new subdomain name, set up the corresponding site, etc., and enable the virtual host (a2ensite) and restart (graceful), apache immediately stops serving up any websites. Apparently apache crashes although I do not see any error messages. But all my sites go down and I have to revert and then restart apache.
I thought this was because my virtual host file (pasted above) had an error. So I thought I would start by getting that first file right. Apparently it is right. So now I need to understand why adding a second virtual host causes all sites to stop being served up.

Jan 25, 2011I have application (WAR format) deployed on tomcat 5.5. I am able to access application using: "http://my_server_hostname/application_base_directory_name/hello.do" for example. I do not want my users to remember or bookmark the full link "http://my_server_hostname/application_base_name/hello.do"). Is there a way that i could have tomcat host it like a website and i can directly get the index page open by simply typing a url (http://hostname) in the browser? if possible, i would like to do it using tomcat only (no httpd connectors or modules).

I have tried my pc to turn into web server by fedora 14 and I am successfully to do it. But I have only one pc and It's Intel dual core with 2 gb ram. I know It's pretty good configuration for F14. Bu My pc is more that 3 and half years old. So, I want to know is it will be good idea to convert my pc into web server or should I get a new one? Or what do you say If I get a used pc.

Mar 31, 2011I'm running with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition and I have LAMP server installed on the machine. I'm wanting to host my Automotive Detailing website that I'm almost done with off of that server. I have decals made up for my car and friends cars with the domain that I have registered on it. Now, can someone please tell me where and how to put the files for my website on the server and how to configure everything so I can get it up and running ASAP?!? Apr 4, 2011I set up an apache webserver on a redhat enterprise server 6 last week. It works fine on the localhost. However, the webpage can't be accessed from the other computer. I didn't modify anything related to 'allow,deny' in httpd.conf. The only thing I've done is I added a rule in iptables to approve the access from a computer with a specific IP address. Since I am quite new to iptables, I don't know if there is anything wrong with my setting.
Even I stop iptables, the problem is still there. I don't know if my setting of iptables is correct. Or, there is anything else that I should do?
General :: Find URL For Xampp Website On Server?
Mar 2, 2010I know to go to the server's IP then slash, but where would I look to see what goes after the slash.
I know where the samba share with all the files for the website points to, but when i put that full path after the slash i get nothing.
