I run a gaming clan forum on IPBFree. By all accounts the servers are Down, permanently.
Taking with them 2 years of my Clans Forum posts. I was wondering if maybe Firefox or Chrome keep some sort of local Cache on the HD that i can try and salvage as much data as possible from.
I am running opensuse with LAMP, and this is my first time setting up this type of server (usually am a windows junkie) My problem i am having is that I am unable to view my website from outside the local network. I have setup my router for a dynamic dns and forwarded all the ports through the router and the local firewall. I ran the apache setup through YAST2 and everything seems fine locally but when i attempt to access it elsewhere its not connecting. computechsolutions.dyndns.biz is the dynamic dns address i have setup through my router.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI found that one of my computers was issuing a DNS request to a domain on my local network every time I send a query. I've look around and saw several programs you could install for DNS local cache, but does it not come with some application by default? If it matters, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 with DHCPD and Bind9.Also, I did add nameserver 127.0.0.1 to /etc/resolv.conf, and it's listed before my other nameservers.

They recently changed the firewall to block all ports except for the ones they want open. I have www.myserver1.com viewable to the outside world, but www.myserver2.com is not viewable to the outside world. I was wondering if there is a way to set things up so that people could go to [URL] and view the [URL] and [URL] website content.
myserver1 is running Solaris 7, which will (hopefully) be upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. myServer2 is running Ubuntu 8.04. myserver3 is running Windows XP. I was wonder if this is possible with any OS, not just mine.
I have a Slackware 13.0 server that is not replying to icmp pings. However, I have double checked that /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all is set to 0. The weird thing is I can run nc -v slackware 22 from any computer on my lan and the banner comes up just fine. The nic is on the same netmask and broadcast as all the other computers on my lan. I can log into it as well, it just doesn't respond to pings. I can even ping other computers and get replies just fine when pinging from inside the Slackware server.
I have even added an iptables INPUT rule for -p icmp -j ACCEPT. Although I've never had to do this. I ran tcpdump -vv icmp and I can see ping requests coming into the computer, however slackware simply doesn't respond. What could be causing this? A corrupt arp cache? It's been happening for more than a few hours so I wouldn't think so. How can I view the arp cache table? How do I clear it?
I have a desktop and laptop at home, both running the same flavour of Debian Testing. How can I configure apt on the laptop so that it first tries to download the packages from the desktop before going to the Internet?

Lets say that default size is 150, so I've change this to 500 and after some time I see 379 re-enters into the cache. Simply put I need to increase the cache size 2 times. But due to the fact that browser preloads dns names it is not possible to interpret the number of overwrites in terms that it is not possible to say if useful cache entries were overwritten or those that the browser precached ( in other words not needed ). In this case it is ok to overwrite unwanted entries because it is not likely that I'll need these entries anyway
I'm running the dnsmasq on an embedded system with limited ram and with an umts dongle attached. It is important to keep the cache size as small as possible to reduce memory usage and at the same time to reduce number of external lookups because dns latency of the umts connection is high (1-2sec for the dns query)
I had the idea to cache writes to my nfs filesystem on my local hard drive.
It seems CacheFS exists to cache reads, but not writes to nfs.
I would imagine that if I could cache writes to my nfs on a local drive I could have a fast system, but keep all my files where I want them on my network.
I'm thinking about this because I am planning on buying a SSD, and I would imagine if I could set things up this way the system could be lightening fast while keeping things on the network. Currently if I copy a large file (hundreds of MB) it is quite slow, with an SSD and caching, I would imagine the copy could be very fast.
I want to make local version of web site. I am using (K)Ubuntu and installed HTTrack from repositories.Even though web site screenshots show GUI version of it, all I get is web-version which effectively opens web page on my local computer. When I try to click "next" on first screen, I get Page Not Found error. It obviously tries to run some sort of scripts on local machine, but nothing is installed there, and no dependencies mentioned in repositories.Anyway, I would prefer to have GUI version that web version of the tool.Does anybody know how to install GUI version of HTTrack? Or are there any equivalents of it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was laughing about klackenfus's post with the ancient RH install, and then work has me dig up an old server that has been out of use for some time. It has some proprietary binaries installed that intentionally tries to hide files to prevent copying (and we are no longer paying for support or have install binaries), so a clean install is not preferable.
Basically it has been out of commission for so long, that the apt-get upgrade DL is larger than the /var partition (apt caches to /var/cache/apt/archives).
I can upgrade the bigger packages manually until I get under the threshold, but then I learn nothing new. So I'm curious if I can redirect the cache of apt to a specified folder either on the command line or via a config setting?
I installed squid cache on my ubuntu server 10.10 and it is work fine but i want to know how to make it cache all files like .exe .mp3 .avi ....etc. and the other thing i want to know is how to make my client take the files from the cache in the full speed. since am using mikrotik system to use pppoe for clients and i match it with my ubuntu squid

View 2 Replies View Relatedi was looking for a way to stop my menus taking a few seconds to load my icons when i first open them and found a few guides suggesting using the gtk-upate-icon-cache command, but with the any colour you like icon theme i'm using (stored in my home folder .icons directory) i kept getting a "gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid." fault i used the inbuilt facility in the acyl script to copy the icons to the usr/share/icons directory and tried the command again, this time using sudo gtk-update-icon-cache --force --ignore-theme-index /usr/share/icons/ACYL_Icon_Theme_0.8.1/ but i still get the same error. i tried with several of the custom icon themes i've installed and only 1 of the first 7 or 8 i tried successfully created the cache.

Sometimes when internet goes down and any mail send then it bounced back immediately saying domain not found. Can u please tell me how i configure to hold all mails in postfix server rather than bounce when internet fails and will pass through when restored the internet around 15-30 minutes?

I recall that I used wireshark to troubleshoot a similar problem a while back, but it doesn't seem to have a way to see all of the devices- only the traffic. (I'd like to do this without having to physically interface with my router if possible, and I am in an encrypted network if that matters)

Everything is well configured and web pages are shown correctly from Internet (outside the local network) using the domain or the public IP.The issue is if I try to see that web pages (using the domain or the public IP) from inside the local network. In that case the router config page (192.168.1.1) is shown instead of the web pages.From inside the local network I'm only able to see the web pages using the internal IP address (192.168.1.XX).

Very helpful for certain offline tasks. What would make it even better is if i could find a way to pass some data to that local process from the html page. This could be the content of a hidden input item, etc. Alternatively, if there is a way for Konqueror to create or update a local file with data from the html page, that would acheive the same end.
