In other words, if one of our employees is getting harassed by a 'stalker', how would one go about blocking, at the MTA (Sendmail) level, a specific sender email address from reaching a particular users inbox? We do not want to capture the email - simply block it before it consumes server resources.The Sendmail server (MTA) is a front end to our Exchange server so no user accounts exist on the Linux server. We simply use it as a SPAM and Virus scanner then forward clean email to the Exchange server.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOur system uses email to send fairly time-sensitive status messages between programs running on various servers on a WAN. Each email message is sent to two addresses (different servers). The problem occurs when one of the destination mail servers is off the network. I think because it's trying to send one email to two addresses, sendmail attempts delivery to the first address, then to the second address (i.e., serially). When this happens, it hangs for two connect timeout (CONNECT_TO) periods trying to connect to the offline destination, then after the timeout, it then delivers to the other destination. I'm trying to figure out how to work around that connection delay so it doesn't delay delivery to the other destination.
I'm working with the network guys to enable the right ICMP messages that signal when a network is unavailable, but I would also like to try having sendmail split the emails into two envelopes, then use parallel, independent connections for delivery.
After days of reading through the docs (O'Rielly Sendmail book + sendmail docs) I think one way to do this is to use multiple mail queues, but I can't decipher exactly how to do that from the docs.
There might be other, more elegant ways to do the same thing, but again, trying to decipher the docs has my head swimming. (This is my first experience with sendmail.)
I have a 64bit linux server with 5 virtual hosts on it. When someone fills out a contact form on one of the sites...I get 15-20 copies of the same email. At first I thought it was the kids clicking send multiple times because the first emails were coming from the children's ministry "Email The Cast" section. But then I started getting multiples from the adult sites too. All contact forms are set to come to me.
What's stranger is that my registration section for one of the sites uses the SAME php script (different file) to email me a notification that someone has registered but I only get 1 copy of that.
I'm having a problem whereby I'm able to send mail to a mailbox from several different email addresses and SMTP servers (gmail, RoadRunner broadband), but I'm unable to send mail to the same address from one particular account, the SMTP server for which runs on a mediaTemple (dv) 3.0 box with CentOS 5 Final.I've spent a full workday on the forums, trying to troubleshoot the issue, and I'm running out of ideas.The server on which I'm having the mail processing problem is a mediaTemple (ve) running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 (Linux 2.6.18-028stab070.7 #1 SMP Fri Oct 1 13:53:00 MSD 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux), with ISPConfig 3. If a user tries to send an email to more than one recipient, and one recipient address is bad, then the server returns an error and no mail is sent (even to the good addresses), rather than letting the good ones through. This seems like a relatively simple question, but I haven't been able to figure it out from the documentation after a couple of hours of searching. I'm running postfix on my mail server, and the vast majority of my spam has the sender address spoofed to match the recipient address. I've got spamassassin up and running, and very little gets through that, so it's not a serious problem, but if possible I would like to be able to reject the mail before it arrives to reduce the system load.
Mail is sent locally via webmail, relaying is denied, so the only way that mail should be sent from the domain is via a connection from localhost. The basic idea I'm thinking of is if the MAIL FROM sender claims to be an address at the receiving domain, but is connected from a remote IP, the mail should be rejected.
All the emails I send from my linux server end up in the recipient's spam folder....Although I have tried many howtos etc and checked all blacklists... It doesn't work...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently modified sendmail.cf to use a third party SMTP server to send emails. It works great. But when I run sendmail from the command line, I have to specify the -C flag and force feed it the location of my sendmail.cf, or else it doesn't work.
So in other words, the following works great:

I don't run sendmail as a daemon. I'm only using it to send emails. I know my modifications of sendmail.cf are correct because it works perfectly when I use the -C flag. I searched my disk to see if I could find another sendmail.cf on the machine and only the one in /etc/mail came up.

My company email server has been working flawlessly for the last 5+ years. Recently, one of our clients put their email server behind a firewall (an assumption on my part; details below). Ever since, email sent from within the company (192.168.xxx.xxx internal address; all computers and server is behind a NAT firewall [Netgear FVX538]) is either being sent to the client after some delay (if email is sent using Outlook) or is being deferred until the messages expire (Thunderbird, Squirrelmail, etc.). Email sent to the client from anywhere outside the company (using Thunderbird, Outlook or any other email client) is also delivered without any problems (usually after a short delay).
All other emails to the World are being sent without any problems at all (both inside and outside the company; using any email client or webmail). I did contact the client's postmaster, but the client, being a large government agency, will probably not address the problem (if it is on their side) anytime soon. I am not sure if I can do anything from my end to solve the problem. Ever since the problem with the client began, I added two statements to the postfix configuration file (smtp_pix_workaround_delay_time = 20s and smtp_pix_workaround_threshold_time = 0s); this seemed to a bit - it reduced the delay for emails sent via Outlook to a few minutes (as opposed to 30+ minutes); emails sent using Thunderbird/webmail are still being deferred.
Server details: Dual quad-core processor machine, 32 GB RAM, dual 1 gbps network, running Fedora 14 (64-bit; loosely modeled along the lines of Perfect Server (with ISPConfig2) as described on the howtoforge website). Running Postfix (v. 2.7.1), Dovecot (v. 2.0.9).

I emailed the client's postmaster suggesting they disable smtp fixup. But still, what bothers me now is that Outlook works (both within and outside the company) while Thunderbird, webmail, etc. (used by ~90% of the users) do not. In addition, all email clients from outside the company can send email (authenticated via the company server) to the client without any problems. Is there anything I can do on my end to make non-Outlook clients work within the company (webmail is hosted on the company server; so, it would have an internal address as well)?
We have MS Exchange email server with postfix/amavis on FreeBSD as proxy for anti-spam and anti-virus. We use our own developed CRM and trying to implement such functionality that when CRM manager send email to CRM client or vice versa through email client like Outlook (no plugins for CRM) this message would be shown in CRM. There is already a solution to parse emails from specific emailbox and show it in CRM.
What I need is to create postfix email filter to check if sender email is in file CRM_managers_emails and recipient email is in file CRM_clients_emails then forward that email to [URL] Filter should check both incoming and outgoing messages. I will auto generate CRM_managers_emails and CRM_clients_email files containing all such emails taken from CRM database. I know i should use something like Postfix After-Queue Content Filter but most of examples are for blocking emails.
I have a Fedora box running a domain and a sub domain. It also is the mail server running Postfix and Dovecot. I have created a new user account in the Virtual Alias.conf file and run postfix reload.

This new account can send mail internally and externally but cannot receive mail internally and externally.

I managed to get my hylafax server nice and going, I also setup up AvantFax and Faxy to reach it from the web..What I still want to do it to send a mail from my blackberry device with a JPEG attachment, and have it forwarded as a FAX to the recipient fax machine...
I read and saw a few documentation here and there, but it is very confusing for me...
courier-faxmail seemed nice, but it conflicts with Hylafax..
Hylafax help support is unclear to me...
I'm not sure jpg attachments from blackberry are "standard" jpg, and, I have no idea how to forward this as a fax...

Every time I boot up ubuntu I usually open 3 terminal windows and ssh into the same server. I would like to either click a shortcut, or run a single terminal command that will do the equivalent.
I came across the "gnome-terminal" command, but I was unable to get it to trigger an ssh command.
Ideally I would like to have a script that I pass in the number of windows I want to open and the server I would like to ssh into for each window.
I have sendmail setup with sasl and multiple domains.I'm sure there is an easy fix for this but I can send emails to anyuser@<anyofmyvirtualdomains.dom> and it will be accepted. I'm just trying to cut down on any confusion that may occur later. Is it possible "restrict" or classify a user into a particular domain? I've setup virtusertable and aliases but no luck in accomplishing my goal.I've searched to find no particular information on this.

The emails usually come from legit places, usually hotels. Does this mean they are sending bad emails, i.e. they have a Trojan/worm, or is this a live hack attempt?. I believe the later, as I might get upto 3 domains from the one ip address, which is always, NOT associated with the listed domain. Not causing me any issues, except I have been getting a lot recently.
I am running Postfix 2.6.1 on Suse 11.2, and am receiving an error message on my windows machine saying "Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied." If I login to my email on the local machine or via squirrelmail I have no problem sending mail. The output of postconf -n is as follows:

I am using following command on my linux account of my compnay

But I dont receive any emails, where as did not receive any error while executing the above command, so whats going on and what is happening.

I recently setup an email server on Fedora Core (14). Sendmail is running and I am trying to authenticate from a client pc using imaps. I installed Cyrus-imap and it is running and listening on 993. When I try to login, it doesn't accept authentication even though I verified the user's password is correct. (tested with ssh)Is there something I have to do with Cyrus or on the server to allow connections to email? I have not used Cyrus before. I am attempting to access my mail folders via Sendmail and did not make mailboxes in Cyrus. I did allow imaps through the firewall.

While im looking at my smtp server log at /var/log/maillog, im having these two errors for which im unable to find the reason.
1)Could not open inline file /etc/MailScanner/reports/en/inline.sig.txt, No such file or directory
2)did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
After searching the forum I could not find a clear answer to my question so I am giving it a try...
I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?
I have users [URL] unable to send email to [URL]. [URL] user also unable to send email to [URL]. But both email addresses are fine as they can receive email from others or from [URL] and [URL]. I able to telnet mail server 110 and 25, no problem. Version: ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10
