Fedora Networking :: Configure Sendmail To Send Email From Command Prompt To Any Domain?

Jan 21, 2010

I have an issue with sendmail. I need to configure sendmail to send email from command prompt to any domain. This is just for the notification purpose. I installed sendmail and sendmail-cf and sm-client. The following are the configuration I have done.

/etc/mail/sendmail.mc
1) dnl # DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl
2) m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf
3) /etc/hosts = 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
/etc/hosts = 192.168.2.50 mysystem
4) /etc/hosts.allow = sendmail:ALL

CentOS 5 :: Configure Sendmail To Accept Email Without Domain In Local-host-names

Mar 23, 2011

dammit... all that typing and I hit the wrong "submit" button. *sigh*

Ok, I have a couple of SMTP servers for our infrastructure. They are running Postfix. I have them configured so that specific email addresses such as support@mydomain.com and billing@mydomain.com all go to a new support server that I am building with osTicket. Lets call that server SUPP1.

SUPP1 runs sendmail from the default install of CentOS 5 i386. At this point everything runs great. New emails get added into the osTicket system via a pipe in sendmail. Here's where the problem comes in. In order to accept mail, sendmail has to have the domain listed in local-host-names and the addresses in virtusertable. That works just dandy. But in doing so, sendmail believes it is the destination SMTP server for "mydomain.com". That means that I can't send mail from that server back into my normal SMTP servers. So things like the LogWatch, cron jobs, etc can't send notifications. Is there a way to work around that? For sendmail to ignore local-host-names for outbound email or something?

Fedora Networking :: Sendmail Doesn't Send Email For Several Days In Spite Of Being Online?

Apr 27, 2011

I have the following problem with sendmail on F14 (had the same on F13 already):

I have a network setup using bridging which is controlled through traditional ifup/ifdown (because NetworkManager can't handle bridging). My sendmail configuration differs from the Fedora default only by having a SMART_HOST relay. The queueing interval in /etc/sysconfig/sendmail is the default (1h).

When my network connection is up, sendmail normally sends email through the relay immediately. Sometimes I have to interrupt the connection for a few minutes. When my network connection is down, sendmail starts queueing email (OK this far). When the network connection comes back up, I'd expect sendmail to restart sending mail through the relay again. But sometimes, that doesn't happen. Instead, sendmail keeps queueing my mail infinitely (I have seen it happen for several days) until I finally notice that my email isn't received, and run sendmail -q by hand (by that time, my boss is already angry that I'm not responding to his email). In that state, even new mail is queued rather than forwarded by sendmail. It appears that the only way to stop that behavior is to restart the sendmail service.

I can send a mail from my line command terminal to hotmail, gmail, yahoo and any of these, but i can't send mail to my own domain ([URL]), when i wrote a mail i get a reply from MAILER-DAEMON@localhost.localdomain that says that the message had pemanent fatal errors and shows as user unknown the mail was suposed to recive the message.

For example, if i send one mail from user1@mydomain.com to user2@mydomain.com the user2 does not recive any mail, but that doens not happens if user1 sends a mail to any hotmail address or gmail or any other. Besides i also can't recive on my server any mail to user1@mydomain.com or user2@mydomain.com (for example), so please tell me what do i do to get the mail.

Server :: Configure Sendmail As Forwarder For All Received Email?

May 4, 2011

So I have two servers in my environment, I have an app server that runs my Java App on it and then I have a utility server. Right now, I have that utility server acting as a simple mail gateway so when my app server needs to send an e-mail out, it forwards it to the utility server and the utility server sends it out to where-ever it's destined to. The Java server always sends as one specific user, let's call it bob@company.com.

This set-up is working just fine right now. Now, I also have my company.com e-mail hosted at an e-mail provider for all of my user's e-mail accounts and such. I also have a bob@company.com e-mail account so if e-mails ever bounce, they end up in this inbox. Again, this works fine.

My app is pretty email dumb so it can't authenticate itself or anything, that's why I am using sendmail on my utility server instead of my e-mail provider's SMTP server. What I would like to do is to configure sendmail to forward all outbound e-mails (and authenticate) to my e-mail provider's SMTP gateway using the bob@company.com account and credentials. Is it possible to configure sendmail to do this?

Server :: Configure Sendmail As Send-only Sever For Web Host

Feb 21, 2010

I am trying to set up sendmail on my intranet (home) webserver, so that it will send mail via my ISP. I have searched for similar threads including this thread, but the responses do not seem to have solved the problem. All I want is to call sendmail from Perl, to post myself the responses to a test form I am building, using my normal internet mail address. I do not want to receive or relay mail from any host except the web server itself (127.0.0.1).

I have edited sendmail.mc to define SMART_HOST as my isp's mail server and MASQUERADE_AS to be my local network name (which is not a registered domain - it is just the name I have given my home intranet). I have run make and built a fresh sendmail.cf, then restarted sendmail.

Using my form, I am able to submit the message to sendmail, but after 40 seconds the mail log shows a message

General :: Send Mail From Domain As A User That Does Not Exist As Well As Email From Other Non-existent Domains

Jul 31, 2010

I have a server with a static IP that I use as a sendmail server. The problem is that port 25 is exposed. As a result, anybody can login to the SMTP server and send mail from my domain as a user that does not exist as well as email from other non-existant domains. I'm sure there are sendmail options that I can enable to do some checks, like if the user exists on that server or if the domain is the same on the server, etc. I was wondering if you guys can mention a few that I can add to my sendmail.mc file?

I have thought about auth login, the problem is if auth login is on my public port then I won't be able to receive email from gmail because it would be unauthenticated. Also, I only have 1 mail server. I know the ideal solution is to have 2 mail servers. One for outgoing mail/internal mail server where you can enable auth login and the other for incoming mail which just acts as the relay to the internal mail server. That way spammers can't login to send mail out. That's another question I had, how do I configure sendmail to only send email out/in?

Anyhow, so I have to make do with 1 mail server for now. So I decided to add a few rules on iptables. I grabbed the IP range that gmail uses when I receive mail from then and added it to my iptables with the following command.

Ubuntu Servers :: Configure To Send And Receive Mail From Multiple Sub Domains Of Domain?

Jun 14, 2011

I want to configure a single mail server to send and receive mail from multiple sub domains of my domain. I've already installed Postfix/Dovecot and it is perfectly working for mydomain.com. And also installed roundcube for Web Mail. Can I further customize this setup to process mail to sub domains? ex- someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com, someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com, someone2@subdomain1.mydomain.com (someone@subdomain1.mydomain.com and someone@subdomain2.mydomain.com are 2 separate users. they should be able to log on to web interface separately)

Currently i use system account names as email user names. (ex - systemusername@mydomain.com). The only MX record in my domain DNS pointed to current server (mailhost.mydomain.com). I read about postfix virtual domains. but couldnt figure out how to use it to achive my target. I do not need configuration details. Just explain me the way to do it. I can do the rest my self.

Debian Configuration :: Can't Send Email From Command Line Using Mail

Mar 17, 2010

I'm running a desktop-less version of Debian via Sun VirtualBox. The reason I'm doing this is because I don't have enough graphics or RAM power to have a desktop environment running on top of my current desktop; also, I want to learn Linux through the command prompt. I'm running the AMD64 version of Debian; I'm not sure if that's relevant.

My main goal is to be able to email useful files from the virtual Debian to my main computer, so that I can save them for later if I ever decide to do a "real" installation of Debian on this computer. I realize now that there's probably some "easy" way to do this by reading the virtual machine's hard drive, but at this point, my curiosity wants to see this issue resolved. I started off wanting to find a command-line program to send my email with, and one was built-in. The syntax ~$ sudo mail -s "Subject" email@yahoo.com "This is a test email."

C^D
Cc:C^D ~$

is what I found. I tried it, and (unsurprisingly), it failed. I then learned that the mail command calls exim4, or something along those lines, so I needed to configure exim4. Soon thereafter, I learned that Yahoo's SMTP wasn't public, but Google's was. So, I found this web page which described how to configure exim4 to allow for email to be sent to a Gmail account. I made one, and followed the page word-for-word.

I sudo-mailled a test email to my Gmail account, and nothing happened. I waited a bit longer, and still, nothing happened. Finally, I started looking around, and found out about the exim4 logs in /var/log/exim4. In my mainlog, I think that it's telling me that Google denied my connection: <date><time><random numbers and letters> == **********.gmail.com R=send_via_gmail t=gmail_smtp defer (111): Connection refused

So, now, I'm just stuck. I don't know what I did wrong, I checked my exim4.conf.template twice for spelling errors, but I don't think I made any. At this point, I can only hope that someone else has had a similar problem, or knows what I'm doing wrong (or haven't done yet).
