Oct 22, 2010I need one, cause I know this is "So easy, a cave-man could do it" (and I can't) yikes.
I need a start up script to execute AFTER my desktop loads. It's for display resolution. I've added the same script in 3 places, and all will execute, but not until I do it manually. It's being over-written by another function...
1 script in /etc/gdm/Init/Default (as per Wiki page, which has a syntax error I found yesterday):

Can I create a run level 7, like rc7.d, that will execute after the desktop loads (and everything else)? I symlinked the second script to level 5 rd5.d, and it didn't go through. I haven't tried level 6.

Sep 27, 2010I've just installed subversion.I need to create a script /etc/init.d/svnserve that will start at boot time.I want to use start-stop-daemon --start so I can track my process and eventually kill it using start-stop-daemon --stop.My problem is that I can't get it to work and the documentation shows no exemple.
I've replaced $DAEMON by the whole line: svnserve -d -R -r $REPO_ROOT and got -d is not an option.I'm not quite sure what to do at that point. If someone has some experience with start-stop-daemon it would be great.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Execute Command Using Php To Start Program That Grabs Screen From Webcam?
Apr 8, 2010I'm trying to setup a webcam surveillance system. Zoneminder didn't work for me regardless of how I tried configuring it, so I gave up and have now settled on a more primitive solution. I've currently got 6 cams and looping streamer (webcam screen grabber) I can grab a picture from each camera with about a 1 second interval. The previous picture is overwritten and using javascript to reload the image continuously in a browser I get the desired "movie" effect I'm after. The problem however is that as soon as I start using streamer on more than two cameras at once I run into this little snag:

I've been searching around and it seems I need to increase my shared memory. I've done that (tried many different values and "solutions") but the problem remains the same.
My setup is as follows.
1.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 1 every second in the browser)
2.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 2 every second in the browser)
3.php (refreshes updated grab from camera 3 every second in the browser)
etc
etc.
Is it possible to use something like php exec to execute the command that starts 'streamer' that grabs the image from the specific webcam (/dev/video1 for 1.php and so forth) when 1.php is opened in the browser. Is this even possible, or am I just dreaming?

How would i monitor the io for file server from the Application server where i have configured 4 virtual machine. one way to mount the file server share on application server and execute

I created an account and password with my root account, a folder with the username was created in /home/ and I uploaded my mmorpg executable there with an ftp client.I tried to change the whole folder (being root) to 777 but it didn't work either.
Server :: Each Command Takes For Ever To Execute
Sep 12, 2010I am trying to use a freshly installed kubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and am having major problems with delays in command execution. The box worked fine after installation. I then brought it to the client and it was fine for another day or so. Now, most of the commands I run take up to five minutes to execute. An 'ls' or 'top' will run straight away but and 'ssh','rm' or 'sudo apt-get' will just sit there for ever:

A reboot changed nothing. The shutdown was immediate so 'shutdown' is another command that works properly. The load of the box is '0', I used team viewer to see if I got the same problem from the LAN side rather than the WAN. It's the same. I thought it might have been the disks that had spinned down but it would have sped up after the ssh connection. After further analysis, it looks like this could be an authentication problem. The problem shows once the ssh password is validated and when we use sudo. Could this be related to the installation of samba3?

May 22, 2009I am trying to determine if I should upgrade PHP's PEAR on my server. I am trying to check the version of PEAR currently installed. The server (HP DL360) has two physical NIC's of which only NIC1 is used (ETH0)

Sep 2, 2010I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !

Feb 28, 2010started setting up my 3rd ubuntu server under the OS of Ubuntu Linux 9.04 64 bit. I have configured the server to allow root access and am using this to execute this file. As you can see from the screenshot of PuTTy, the file exists but is refusing to load up. I am also able to nano the file. I have tried moving the file to /root/ and still had no luck.
