View 10 RepliesAlright, so I upgraded my old fedora 10 server to Fedora 11 with a netinstall CD, but now service httpd restart is broken. I already had to delete the old config file and reinstall apache, but now I can't restart it. I can kill it and then start it manually, but it never stops the running instance and fails to bind the port. I know it's because /var/run/httpd/htpd.pid is in the wrong place, which would be /var/run/httpd.pid, but do I have to make a symlink every time I want to restart it? I edited all the config files to point to the right place, but the system does not honor them. What do I do?

View 12 Replies View Relatedwhats the difference between restarting/stopping apache using 'service httpd restart/stop' and apachectl restart/stop. I know that using 'service httpd restart' is actually a script in /etc/init.d/httpd but what about apachectl?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI neded to make some changes to the httpd.conf file. Afterwards I tried restarting, but it won't restart. It's saying port 80 is already in use. after checking via lsof -i :80 I get this result:

i can smb in centos 5 and i run service smb restart, it shows :smb: unrecognized service..... i run rpm -qa |grep samba,it shows
samba-common-3.0.33-3.7.el5
samba-client-3.0.33-3.7.el5

I have opened up the Service Configuration window that shows all the services and their status. My httpd says that it is enabled, but also that "this service is dead" and there is a orangish triangle. I can run phpMyAdmin on my server, but I can't run it from any other PC on my network.

I can start this from the command line and it shows no errors.
httpd -t --- syntax ok.
no entry in the httpd error logs.
chkconfig reports it as on.
service --status-all shows this --
httpd.service - LSB: start and stop Apache HTTP Server
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd)
Active: failed since Wed, 01 Jun 2011 07:06:18 +0100; 58min ago

CGroup: name=systemd:/system/httpd.service
After a reinstall I finally caught this in /var/log/messages
systemd[1]: Unit httpd.service entered failed state
The httpd.service file does not exist on the system. Where can I get a copy?
I go and restart ssh and I get this weird message. thought I should be getting ok or fail message, at least thats how I remember it. What do you think?nate@universal-mechanism:~$ sudo service ssh restart
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust like the title states, as soon as my server comes up, I see the samba share that I made and can browse it just fine.
I don't see the printer share nor can I print to the shared printer until I execute service smbd restart from an ssh login. Then I see the printer and then I can network print.
Before restarting smbd, I do check to see if it's already running and it is (two instances are running in fact). When I restart smbd, there are still two smbd services running but they have higher PID numbers (and I can then print).
I'm running 10.04. how to make it all start up happily the first time without any intervention from me?
I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).
View 5 Replies View RelatedIf I restart the network service, not all interfaces come back up. Is this expected behaviour or does something need a kick?

Something happened where my RHEL6 computer locked up and I needed to shutdown the computer manually via holding the power button. When I turn the computer back on all I see is the wallpaper and mouse cursor...no log in window or anything. I can do the alt-shift F1/f2 thing where I can log in via terminal type commands but I cant get the normal display to work. When going init 5 in the console x loads but still nothing but the wallpaper and mouse. When I go back to console it seems to be stuck at enabling bluetooth devices...but I dont believe I even have a bluetooth device.

I have reviewed the HowTo wiki on Setting up an SSL secured Webserver with CentOS [URL], and have successfully set up my server.
We are using the conditional <IfDefine SSL> tags around the <VirtualHost _default_:443> section. I wanted to do this because we are deploying a standard <VirtualHost> section that is appended to the httpd.conf file for several Apache versions on several OS's, and this makes maintenance much easier. Sometimes the server will be configured with SSL support, and sometimes not, depending on certain functions of our application that the end user will require and determine. Our application then determines which mode the server should be run in depending on these functions, what OS is being run, what version of Apache is being run, etc, and starts the httpd server in the appropriate mode. For CentOS 5 with Apache 2.2, if the application indicates SSL is required (and we expect the server to be configured appropriately), then we do the following:
/usr/sbin/apachectl -D SSL -k start
I am tyring to setup my webserver on Fedora 10 to do the following.
first, i want to require logins when people access my machine. This i have working through the .htaccess file.
Second, i want directories that do not have an index.html file to be auto indexed. This is where its not working for me. I get a 403.
the only change from the default setting in the httpd.conf file is AllowOverride AuthConfig
it would seem that the default settings for are
<Directory "/var/www/html">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
[Code].....
IF i put an index.html file in sub/ i no longer get a 403, i just get that file.
I have Fedora 12 x86_64 installed in my computer. I have also installed system-config-httpd, but when I go to System --> Administration --> Server Settings --> HTTP, nothing shows up.
