I am somewhat new to linux, and fedora especially, I'm currently trying to get a linux based active directory server build in my home. I've tried using samba, dhcpd and the bind9 service but it wasn't wanting to work, so I did some searching and found 389ds on the fedora projects page. Now I'm having issues setting up the directory here's the log.
Code:
[11/05/29:10:37:47] - [Setup] Info This program will set up the 389 Directory and Administration Servers.
It is recommended that you have "root" privilege to set up the software.
Tips for using this program:
- Press "Enter" to choose the default and go to the next screen
- Type "Control-B" then "Enter" to go back to the previous screen
- Type "Control-C" to cancel the setup program
[11/05/29:10:37:47] - [Setup] Info Would you like to continue with set up?
[11/05/29:10:37:49] - [Setup] Info yes .....
[11/05/29:10:37:50] - [Setup] Info Your system has been scanned for potential problems, missing patches, etc. The following output is a report of the items found that need to be addressed before running this software in a production environment .....
We have started using ACLs on our fileserver and we are having a problem with getting Samba to behave correctly. When we create a file in Linux, the permissions and ACLs are set correctly. Files are set to 640 and directories are set to 750. However, when we create it in Windows through Samba, regular files are being set with 650 and directories are set to 770. It's adding execute on files and execute+write to directories for groups.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 on a home PC as a local-only file and web server for some private projects. After a few minutes Ubuntu will stop responding to the network and a cold reboot is required to re-enable the NIC.I've been able to stop the above occurring with a user logged in and constantly pinging the gateway, although this is obviously undesirable.
I read here and elsewhere that a fix is to set acpi=off in grub. I have done this but now instead Ubuntu will not boot and shows the message:
do_IRQ: 1.55 No irq handle for vector (irq -1)
Disabling IRQ #34
and hangs there indefinitely. The system will boot fine if I revert the changes but obviously the sleep problem remains. The BIOS does not have an option to disable ACPI, just select S1 or S3.Is there anything else I should be looking for in order to disable sleep? Otherwise the system is working fine, and when it's awake I haven't had any other trouble.

quite some time back, when I was learning about MySQL injections it has sorta been drilled into me to use mysql_real_escape_string when dealing with input from users.[URL]..I'm running a standard LAMP installation, with no alterations to the defaults.
On the site in question, I do have this all set up, however, as part of a tutorial series on FULLTEXT, I've included the output of both "un-escaped" and "escaped" input, to show the importance.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a server that runs on a static IP address with many hosting accounts. I am using the IspCP to manage the different sites. When a mail is sent, the headers include the box's own domain name: [URL]. Now [URL] is no longer active, so if an email from another account: [URL] sends mail, there is possibility that this mail is rejected by the receiver, if the receiver system does rDNS.
The receiving server will check the headers smtp sent from [URL] and come up as a fake, because [URL] is no longer registered. I wonder if there is a way to make the smtp headers reflect only the domain name that sent the mail. Then if joe sends mail, the server should replace[URL] with [URL]. If this is possible, then users that send mail will not get bounced because the rDNS lookup will map [URL] to the ip and the mail will be accepted.
Is there a way to reset the yum database so that it can go and re-apply the patches that have already been installed?
I have a Fedora 12 with the latest patches, and I managed to screw up some files or delete some files to the point where all I have now is the Fedora splash screen when I reboot.
I can get to single-user mode, and the thinking is that if I can get yum to ignore the latest patches that are already installed and pull down and re-install the latest patches, then whatever files that are corrupt or missing will be put back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu 10.10. I heard about BFS kernel patch, that this patch has great improvement for desktop systems.
Now, I have this question: Do developers of linux kernel(kernel.org) apply these kinds of patches to kernel source for next releases? if no, how can I apply this patch to my ubuntu kernel?
I am currently following the instructions from the Linux From Scratch book and have made it to the downloading of the patches. There are links to all of the needed patches but when you click them, instead of downloading a file like I expected, it takes you to an html page displaying (I'm guessing) some sort of programming or scripting language. Link to the page with the all the patch download links. From there instead of downloading the file it displays its contents.

(had to break it up because the forum won't allow me to post links yet ) My question is: What do I need to do with this text? Do I copy and paste it into a text file? Are there certain extensions that I need to append to the text files?
I need to build a new kernel. I was directed toI tried following the instructions but I think I may have ended up with way more than I wanted. After just over 3 hours the build exhausted the 5.2GB I had available and fell over. The .config file used was nearly twice the size of the one I supplied. Why was it changed?I don't need an rpm.Are the patches supplied with the 2.6.38 sources required or nice to have?

View 3 Replies View RelatedNear the end of the install, a panel lists dozens of patches, some categorized as "Security", others as "Recommended", each preceded by a checkbox. I started to check all of the patches, but then noticed that the checks were bringing in software I had not requested -- e.g., checking an emacs patch brought in emacs. Rather than bring in all of this additional software, I left all patches unchecked. Now I need to know how I can go back and apply only the patches that pertain to software that I have actually installed.
I'd also like to know whether there is some way to limit the install program panel to relevant patches only.

But according to the original developer's site this release contains a major security bug and should be patched immediately. is the file from CentOS repo a copy of the original release or are any patches applied?

While seeing any text file in vi mode, yellow patches are appearing on my screen in all spaces. Same are not appearing in cat mode. This is very clumsy to understand the text. How to remove those yellow patches. It seems earlier I have used a command to remove empty lines in between text file and this problem is occurring since then.
