It appears that a write protected socket was established as a symbolic link between an audio file and the binary of the audio itself.
We are unable to remove the files and the holding folder. Attempted all possible combination of RM that I could think of and then graduated to shred. We are unable to do so code...
I created the following symbolic link:
Code:
ln -s /home/vichingo/.gvfs/"media on mybook" /media/mybook
this worked, only now I have a folder media on mybook within the mybook folder.
I wanted to remove this link, but when doing:
Code:
sudo rm /media/mybook/media on mybook
I get:
Code:
rm: cannot remove `/media/mybook/media': No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `on': No such file or directory
rm: cannot remove `mybook': No such file or directory
for some reason I am either unable to remove the link or change the name of the folder to change the spaces into underscores.
Whenever we insert CD,it creates a shortcut link in desktop. Can we list this link name by using any command? I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.0.

I was working with TeamViewer 5 just fine and then saw that TeamViewer 6 was available. I performed a complete removal of TeamViewer 5 via the Synaptic Package Manager and then did a clean install of TeamViewer 6 by executing the new deb file.
TeamViewer 6 was added to the Main Menu just fine, but after rebooting my laptop, the TeamViewer 6 Main Menu launcher was gone and a broken link was there in its place.
I have since followed the solution in the below thread to get a valid TeamViewer 6 launcher back in the Main Menu, but I cannot get rid of the broken link.

In the System->Preferences->Main Menu window, the broken link is basically frozen. I can't hide it or delete it. Is there some file I'm just going to have to update to get rid of it?
While seeing any text file in vi mode, yellow patches are appearing on my screen in all spaces. Same are not appearing in cat mode. This is very clumsy to understand the text. How to remove those yellow patches. It seems earlier I have used a command to remove empty lines in between text file and this problem is occurring since then.

I would like to start practising Patch Management and would like to know how to start and how to do it. For security reasons, I am not allowed to connect the servers to RHN or RHS hence will appreciate other options of acquiring patch updates in bundled form say on a monthly basis.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the ordering of files I keep I need links to directories. Sometimes I even need to move directories to new locations. I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?
- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?
- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?
- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?
I was looking for live link to download ubuntu mobile but unfortunately I don't find anything... Can someone send me a link for download and a link with the installation instructions ?? All the links that I found are dead.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf
[Code]....
The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.
log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html
The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.
Is there a way to reset the yum database so that it can go and re-apply the patches that have already been installed?
I have a Fedora 12 with the latest patches, and I managed to screw up some files or delete some files to the point where all I have now is the Fedora splash screen when I reboot.
I can get to single-user mode, and the thinking is that if I can get yum to ignore the latest patches that are already installed and pull down and re-install the latest patches, then whatever files that are corrupt or missing will be put back.
how to update patches in fc12.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu 10.10. I heard about BFS kernel patch, that this patch has great improvement for desktop systems.
Now, I have this question: Do developers of linux kernel(kernel.org) apply these kinds of patches to kernel source for next releases? if no, how can I apply this patch to my ubuntu kernel?
I am currently following the instructions from the Linux From Scratch book and have made it to the downloading of the patches. There are links to all of the needed patches but when you click them, instead of downloading a file like I expected, it takes you to an html page displaying (I'm guessing) some sort of programming or scripting language. Link to the page with the all the patch download links. From there instead of downloading the file it displays its contents.

(had to break it up because the forum won't allow me to post links yet ) My question is: What do I need to do with this text? Do I copy and paste it into a text file? Are there certain extensions that I need to append to the text files?
I need to build a new kernel. I was directed toI tried following the instructions but I think I may have ended up with way more than I wanted. After just over 3 hours the build exhausted the 5.2GB I had available and fell over. The .config file used was nearly twice the size of the one I supplied. Why was it changed?I don't need an rpm.Are the patches supplied with the 2.6.38 sources required or nice to have?

There is a symlink from /var/www to a personal directory. FollowSymlink and chmod 755 are all set. It works perfectly until each morning I will get a "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" error. When I do a "sudo service apache2 restart", the problem will go away.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNear the end of the install, a panel lists dozens of patches, some categorized as "Security", others as "Recommended", each preceded by a checkbox. I started to check all of the patches, but then noticed that the checks were bringing in software I had not requested -- e.g., checking an emacs patch brought in emacs. Rather than bring in all of this additional software, I left all patches unchecked. Now I need to know how I can go back and apply only the patches that pertain to software that I have actually installed.
I'd also like to know whether there is some way to limit the install program panel to relevant patches only.

That application is included in CentOS default repo and can be installed via yum. The version number indicates that this is a rather old release. This fact in itself is okay with me. But according to the original developer's site this release contains a major security bug and should be patched immediately. is the file from CentOS repo a copy of the original release or are any patches applied?
