View 1 RepliesI've been trying to make install apache 2.1.8 and php 5.2.3 and work on them. After updating and installing some dependence files, apache and php could both be installed.
Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:
Code:
Then I run /path/to/apachectl start, and saw the message:
Quote:
Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
Then I remembered that I didn't include the rewrite module while making install apache. So I removed the 2 lines I just added to httpd.conf.
But, after running /path/to/apachectl stop and start again, I could still see:
Code:
When I use firefox to open http://host_ip:8080/, I could see "It works!". But when I open http://host_ip:8080/hello.php (the file is already under htdocs), firefox said
Quote:
Failed to Connect
Why and how to solve it?
I noticed that for some stupid reason, the conf file wasn't updated at all and the 2 erroneous lines were still there.
Does anyone have some material about statistics using ubuntu / linux server, or a text which generally describes the ubuntu server?I need urgent, i'm writing specialization work about administration apache and ftp server on ubuntu 10:10 server, so I need something for the conclusion.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to solve a problem where Apache stats aren't displaying correctly in Munin. I've ran through quite a bit of checks and tests regarding Munin setup, but I think my issue is related to Apache, but my skill set there is lacking.

I'm switching internet providers and right now have service with 2. I tried switching my server over today, and ran into trouble so decided to switch it back. I got everything set up again, and it all seems to work - except for ONE of my vhosts. The others work as expected. One (the only "real" site I host) simply hangs. I am "watching" the log file, and the top-level request for "/" (sometimes) comes through and reports response code 200. But, none of the other files (images, css, etc) get requested, and the page never loads.I'm not sure where to even start. Apache is fine since the other vhosts work. I didn't make any changes to my config - except for changing the ip address in my dns. But, that's the same for all vhosts.
It may be worthwhile to note that I changed it back when I tried bringing up the site with the new ISP and it brought up my (new) modem settings with the url. I panicked and couldn't figure out how to fix it.. I thought maybe someone could have been playing with my modem settings (I was automatically logged in as administrator), so I set it back to factory settings. Then I couldn't get the internet to work at all, and changed it back to my original service. Now everything works except for the one vhost.
I'm running CentOS 5.3 64bit and from the get go I've had problems with the Apache server.More specifically, on what seems to be a random occurance, the apache server stops to respond. The process is still running, but nothing happens with it, and it is not responding. The /var/logs/httpd/error_log is blank for the occurance and only shows an entry after I give it a restart. So I'm a bit confused about what is going on.With that said, I need to make sure the httpd is working one way or another.I don't want to force a restart service every 10 minutes as this seems a bit too much. However, I do want to have the following:
run a crond every minute to do:If it fails, then do service httpd restart (and log the failure and restart to a file and email me a message).Any pointers on how to do that?It ain't the pretty solution, but it will save me from a very angry user until I'll figure what is the real cause for this failure.
this might not be a Centos related issue, but since I'm using Centos I guess it doesn't hurt to ask; I've used Ubuntu before and haven't encountered this. So, I've just installed Centos and Webmin and now I'm trying to configure the server. Problem is that on the Apache configuration page I don't have the option (should be there) to configure the Apache modules. I've attached a file to show where the modules option should (as before) appeared.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy server gets ddos attacks. I dig into access logs and I saw that attacker ips doesn't have valid requests headers, like their browser application info or requested url info.I want to close those connections immediately, and if it's possible block those ips for a time period. Can I do that with Apache and iptables?I searched on the internet but couldn't find useful results. Probably couldn't search for the right words.

I'm having a real problem getting Apache to allow a symlink on a particular folder. The symlink is at /var/www/html/images and it points to /home/foo/images.Here is the relevant section to my httpd.confQuote:

I just installed Centos 5.5 on one of my systems today and something is eluding me. Basically I had a web site and forum software (phpBB, but I don't think it's that, other forum software like Xoops does the same thing) running on Fedora 13, and I copied it over to the new Centos installation. Apache is running fine and displays a PHP test file and .html files just fine.
MySQL seems to be fine, I can log into that, show databases etc. Just can't get any forum software to know there is MySQL there. I did change the path of the site, and the databases, and edited /etc/my.cnf and /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf to reflect that. Thought I made the needed changes in /etc/php.ini but who knows. Seemed like everything should have tar'd up and moved easy, but not the case...
I am running a quad core centos 5.4 box that is having a strange problem with dovecot. The administration panel is able to send emails through dovecot but not any of the user accounts (ie with webmail). I've done a bit of research with what could be wrong but haven't had any luck so far I am also having a weird problem with apache: on a c++/php bittorrent application I was going to be running on a subdomain of my main site I get a 500 error every time I try to log in. The only way to get rid of the 500 error is to clear the chache (so its horribly broken somehow). The error generated in the log whenever I try to log in is that "ffmpeg is already loaded" (which I am running on the main site and is critical). Is there a way of either repairing my apache install or excluding ffmpeg on the subdomain in the conf or something?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a simple cron job that runs every night & I tested this manually by just running the command as root in bash and all worked fine. It took some time but the crob job finished and I got my results emailed to me perfect / as expected.
Here is root's cron job listing:
Code:
Now I noticed that I never ever got anything emailed to me the following day so I am wondering if perhaps the Cron daemon doesn't have permissions or has an issue running / executing the command rather than when I test the command as 'root'? When I view my logs, I can see the command being executed and don't see any errors however I don't get email results when Cron runs the job rather than me taking the command and running it manually in Bash...then it works. What am I missing?

My ftp server runs vsftp. The ftp passive ports stopped working while iptables is running, so users can't ls their dirs. I know that you need to load the modules of ip_conntrack and ip_conntrack_ftp, the problem is when I modprobe ip_conntrack I get the error: FATAL: Module ip_conntract_ftp not found. No that is not a typo. ip_conntract_ftp? Am I missing something?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install some packages in a ubuntu 8.10 server, however, apt-get doesn't work (I get several 'not found' errors). Is there any way to do that? I know this version is probably not supported anymore but I can't just format a customer server because it's OS is outdated...I just can't put my sources.list on it because I am on ubuntu 10.10 and it would download updates for the wrong OS probably causing a huge damage on the old one.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a computer that I would like to backup the home directory onto a server. I created a script called wien_backup.sh that contains the following:
#!/bin/bash -l
/usr/bin/rsync -rv --delete-after --ignore-errors -e /usr/bin/ssh root@wngr403-unix2:/home/ /space/systemimager/Wien/
where wngr403-unix2 is the computer I am backing up, and the script is ran from the server. If I run the script by itself, it works just fine. If I run it as a cronjob, the /var/log/syslog says it ran, but it does nothing.

eg: snmpwalk v2c -c nature 172.17.241.190
No Response from 172.17.241.190
But when i run the same query with "localhost" snmpd responds.

I have a dedicated server running CentOS 5, Plesk 9.2.2, SMTP Postfix and Courier-IMAP.The issue I have is that on all domains on the server receiving email works fine however sending email never seems to work. This is from email programs, my phone, webmail and PHP. None of them seem to be able to send email. If it is of worth Spam Assassin is running however I don't feel it is causing any problems.

Ergo; She's unable to log on to her workplace computer/server from home.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter I finished upgrading Xubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04, I discovered that my keyboard stopped working in X Server. The upgrade process was running smoothly until the last moment, when it produced some error, which I, unfortunately, did not write down. Anyway, the upgrade has completed; uname shows kernel version 2.6.32-31. Now the keyboard works fine if I select a recovery mode at startup, but if I type 'start gdm' from the shell or select the default option in GRUB while booting, the keyboard becomes unavailable right from the login screen. I can log on using the virtual keyboard, but that's all I can do; the keyboard is still dead.
