have a problem with my network-manager in ubuntu 10.10.when I dial one of my vpn connections, my other vpn connections be disabled and I can't use them!I tried to restart network-manager and gnome-panel, but it does't seem to solve this problem.
I bought a firefox extension which support proxy with username and password, but seems only http version and not socks 5 server which I already have installed on server. I know for privoxy, but privoxy don't support username/password. Is there anything else what works with username/password? Also what is different between http and socks5?
I'm having real problems with Wifi and it's putting me off Linux.I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (no Windows at all on the machine) on an Asus L5800C with Broadcom bcm4303 Wifi.I can't get Wifi to work.Pressing Fn F2 has no effect.
Then reboot and your wireless should work. And it did bring up Wifi, although the Wifi indicator on the machine, that worked under Windows XP, did not come on.However, after a minute or so the Wifi stopped working.I looked in the messages log and have an entry that says kernel: b43legacy-phy0: Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED.
I'm using Linux Mint 8 KDE, which is essentially kubuntu karmic.
Been trying to set up bittorrent (tried several different apps), have followed all the usual steps, forwarded ports on both Guarddog and my router, but still no incoming connections. Then tried disabling the firewall in Guarddog - still no incoming connections. Never had any problems configuring my router before so can only think that there must be something else blocking ports in linux other than iptables. Also had same problem just using ufw and gufw
We have a Wipro Net Power 8552 server on RAID 5 with Linux Advanced Server. The Databse is Oracle . Every time the reocovery is made the block corruption error gets changed. There are four hardisk in the Raid with 18 GB capacity of Quantum make. I want to make sure if any Utility is there in Linux to check the Harddisk if any Block corruption is there or Not.
I have configured a FTP (VSFTPD) Server in RHEL 5.6, which resulted me a default directory /var/ftp/pub. Even i have cerated another Directory /var/ftp/accounts. Where Accounts Directory is owned by user x in my server. I have a issue with this, It prompts me User and Password while accessing this ftp 192.168.5.20 in Linux Servers. But while i am trying this through a windows machine by ftp://192.168.5.20 it gets directly accessed without prompting me any User and Password.
I need to have FTP environment same like windows. where it must prompt me user name and password, and i must be able to upload and download data from my windows clients.
Yesterday, when I was installing Redhat Enterprise 5.4 on a HP server, I asked myself "how can I regain my access to the server if I happen to forget the root password?" I knew there must be a way. I consulted with my friend "Google". I'd like to share it here as my 1st post (too bad that I'm not allowed to paste screenshots)
1) Boot up the server, when you are at the "Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server..." entry, press "e". 2) Highlight the "kernel /vmlinuz...." line then press "e" again. 3) Type the word "single" to the end of the line (with an empty space before the word single). Press Enter. 4) Press "b" 5) System will boot. When you get the prompt "#", type "passwd" to enter in new password for root. 6) Reboot the system. Done
I have a server running ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. It has samba running. I have ONE user that everytime she shuts down her windows machine I have to recreate the smbpasswd -a user. Every time, repeatable. A. How can a windows machine be affecting the password settings on the server. B. Refer back to A.
I have configured LDAP Server on RHEL 5.2 successfully and client can login to the server. But I do no how a client can change its LDAP password on his client machine.
I'm running Fedora 15/2.6.38.6-27.fc15.x86_64. When I run <code>qemu</code> I'm getting "Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support" I know my CPU supports hardware virtualization, it has the vmx flag (grep vmx /proc/cpuinfo). I've checked that: 1. kvm and kvm_intel modules are loaded 2. /dev/kvm exists. 3. I'm in the kvm group, so I can access /dev/kvm.. Why KVM doesn't work?
I installed kvm via the package manager but running "qemu" gives the output: Code: Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support I'm in the group "kvm" and /dev/kvm exists but seems... empty I'm not familiar with KVM, QEMU and virtualization technology...
using redhat on server machine and open suse on client machine.i have installed nfs server and and it is running properly but when i want to mount shares from my client machine it gives the following.
error. "mount.nfs: mount to NFS server '10.3.31.146:/share' failed: System Error: No route to host" both systems ping each other and firewall is also disabled. another problem is when i remotely access from my server machine to client machine it gives the following error ssh:connect to host 10.3.31.147 port 22:connection refused what can be the problem?
Have Opensuse disabled support for Iomega external parport zip drives? I can mount the zip drive under Debian Lenny running the 2.6.26 kernel without any problems. Under Opensuse 10.3 (installed) and Opensuse 11.2 (liveCD) I can't access the drive. Opensuse doesn't recognize it.
All of which is odd. When I installed 10.3, the zip was seen an configured in fstab as /dev/sdc4 mounted at /media/zip. It worked fine for a while, then quit. Now, /dev/sdc4 doesn't exist. Kde control center says (hardware - partitions) says is there but not mounted. Hwinfo doesn't show it; modprobe imm does nothing.
I'm at a loss for ways and means to get Opensuse to recognize my zip drive.
I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). Anytime I try to access the machine it asks me for my password...I enter it but it says it is invalid....is there anyway to reset it? I have already tried to remove and purge everything Samba related and then tried reinstalling, but that still didn't do anything
I am using slackware64-current. I have installed the package links-2.3pre1-x86_64-1 and I love it. I launch it from the command line with the "links -g" switch and it can display pictures, it's great, but it doesn't seem to support ssl connections.
Am i doing something wrong or do I need another build? I know that in the past there used to be two different binaries, is it still so? Where can I find a ssl-enabled binary for 64 bit without need to recompile?
I have installed CentOS on a VMwareWorktation and that CentOS, i also install VMware Server (suscess) and setup a guest OS that, but i start this Guest OS, an error show "You may not power virtual machine in virtual machine"...
The strange thing is the connections coming through in the virtual machine seem to be getting dropped. A port scan from the internet says the port is closed, but it is not the case as I can see the connection coming through. As you've probably worked out, I am running a mail server. When I send myself test mail, the connections from the senders mail server also gets dropped.
Using thunderbird for email, as several users of this computer have individual preferences. Worked in 10.10 and previous. Upgraded to 11.04 this morning, had to install from CD due to my mistake. Changed computer name too. No worries, have done this before. Added new account to Thunderbird. Copied over mail folders too. Application is good to go. However, when checking email now get reply from server that password is invalid. Checked all account settings within T-Bird but cannot locate password setttings for this server/account. Appears to use something called STARTTLS. How to access this store of passwords?
Protect against root password change[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]I have recently had to force a change of the root password on a linux box I was running. It was a test system which I had not used in a while, so I forgot the root password (not so smart).Anyway, I found that it was amazingly easy to reset the root password. Here is a straight forward article on how to do it.URL...
My question is: how can you protect against this? I see this as a security hole.I understand that the user must have physical access to the computer, but if I want to lock the system down so you cannot easily enter single user mode or the root password cannot be changed.
I run Fc11 on my desktop and Fc11 in virtual machine to test the connections that could be established between two linux machine, all the connection from virtual machine to the physical machine are refused the only thing that answer is ping to default gateway.
When I try to connect to my SUSE server from other one this appears: Remote host identification has changed. I deleted entry in know_hosts but it still working wrong, showing me this message. What could be the cause of this problem??

I just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 via the alternate cd ISO image. I can log in to Ubuntu with my old password but sometimes, when i have to grant extra privileges, that same password doesn't work. I also get a small message saying the pass word I use to loging and the one used for 'keyring' are different. what's wrong? Is there any way I can correct this?
