I am getting this

[root@ncc1701 ~]# service httpd restart

Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 63.123.155.104 for ServerName
[ OK ]
problem is that I have no idea where it is getting the 63.123.155.104 address from. Its not mine and its not the IP of the server..

I get the following error while starting apache httpd
Code: httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using <Server's-ip-address> for ServerName I googled it and have come across the following solutions, all of them involve changing the ServerName setting in httpd.conf:ServerName localhost ServerName www.example.com:80 ServerName <ip-address-of-server> ServerName <hostname-of-machine/FQDN>
I am setting up httpd to be accessed from over a LAN, so i don't have a .com domain name. I am thinking of going with the first option, it seems to be working...

We recently had an issue with our sendmail where the mail that was being sent to certain corporate users was being bounced as the domain name couldn't be qualified. After much sole searching we provided the server with the fully qualified domain name and all was well. When a user sends a mail to an internal user in our organisation it bounces with a user unknown. It would appear that it is looking for the user on this server now rather than on the exchange server where they reside. We have a smart relay address in the config file to ensure the external mail went out correctly.
As an example we have the entry in the host file as:
1.1.5.72 serverx2 foofighters.com serverx2.ad.foofighters.com
The Smart Relay as:
# "Smart" relay host (may be null)
DSxchange1.ad.foofighters.com
On exchange we have aliases as userx@foo.com where the users email address is ser.x@foofighters.com. Now when the mail is sent to userx@foo.com the server sends ok. If you send to user.x@foofighters.com we get a user unknown.

I've got a home server running Ubuntu Server 9.04 and several machines running Ubuntu Desktop (9.04 and 8.04) and Windows (XP, Vista and 7). Now what I want to do is to create a domain and directory server similar in function to Windows Server w/ AD and join my other machines to the domain, but am not sure where to start. I already have file shares with Samba but now I want to setup a domain.

iam using centos5.2.configured qmail,vpopmail. while adding domain form vadddomain<domain.co.in> At first time domain folder get created in domains directory.and also postmaster user also get created by default.And also in mysql. Now the problem is after some times or rebooting system domain get erased automatic.also in /var/qmail/users/assign file domain name get erased.

I want to host 5 websites on my new virtual server so I have created 2 nameservers that point to my virtual server's IP addresses as a glue record. What confuses me is when I create a new domain on my server it gives the new domain it's own nameservers (ns1.thenewdomain.co.uk etc) do I need to change these records so they use the nameservers I created earlier? If I do? Which particular records should I change? I'm running a Unix virtual server with a Plesk control panel.

i need to allow window domain controller user to use file share of linux.windows DC user can see the share file and directories of linux file server but not able to access.

I have a Linux machine which is on my network but not on my domain. I have configured SAMBA FILESERVER for file sharing purpose. I have a Windows XP PC which is on the domain(windows server) that I am trying to connect to a share on the Linux box. I supply my credentials but regardless of which login I use I always get Logon Failure. I have created an account on the Linux machine with the same user name and password as my domain account but so far no luck. Can I connect from a domain PC to a non-domain Linux box? Is there something else I should be checking?

I'm working for a smallish non-profit that has gone through some recent growing pains. We have two sites that are currently without a domain controller, and no money for MS licenses, so I was thinking of trying to add a couple of additional Linux machines (we already run Linux for web services internally, and I've set up a test case previously to see if I could get a server to join the domain, which was a success) and was trying to find out if I can get them to act as Domain Controllers without replacing the domain. The main issue that I'm having at those locations is drive mappings are not happening correctly against our DFS file servers. The one other location that had this issue had it go away when we added a local DC. The domain is a Server 2008 domain.

I have been working on NTP to find out resolution of my issues unable to find. let me briefly explain here. I have three servers and no server is fully synced with remote NTP server.I don't know why it sync time alternatively with remote NTP server and LOCAL whereas there is not issue in connectivity/reachability of NTP server and NTP clients. Also server 1 reporting kernel time sync disabled 0001.

I am thinking about buying a domain name and hosting my web server.
I have seen pricing from $8 to $30 a year. Any favorites from fellow ubunters? Also this whole "whois" thing scares me, if I am correct my information I enter when buying the domain is enter into some big pool of information. People can find this information out and dig up important information. url Can I prevent this with private Whois or how do I set it up? This website examples some of my fears with this whole WhoIs thing, url whois/Private-Whois.html Does most/all domain registers come with email or just email forwarding or both? How does that work? At this moment, my only question about Web Hosting is how do I get Website Statistics as in: Stats, web analytics, web traffic stats and more? I will be web hosting through Ubuntu 9.10 gnome.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I'm trying to fully automate a Minecraft server, and I decided to use Ubuntu 11.04 on this computer. The computer I'm using for it is an old computer (it's the old family PC, it's about 5 years old (and running amazingly now that I've formatted the hard drive (compared to how it used to run))) so it won't run the Unix environment (or something like that) and runs the Gnome environment instead.
Anyways; the server auto-starts when my computer turns on (my computer also automatically turns on). Now all I need to do is have my computer auto-shutdown at 12:00AM as well as enter the command "stop" into the running terminal. I plan to later add more commands (such as automatically welcoming people to the server when they connect, but that's not important right now and I'll likely be able to figure out if I can get this working).
This is the command I'm using to shutdown the computer:
sudo shutdown -P 24:00
However, it doesn't work. First of all, I need to enter my password, so I need some way to have the shell file enter my password for me whenever the terminal asks for it. Second of all, it just plan doesn't work, even if I enter my password (like, the countdown doesn't appear). As for entering commands into the terminal, the only way I can think of is:echo "stop" But the problem is that doesn't work because it wont enter into the running terminal (and I don't know how to do that).

I decided that I'd torture myself and try to get a server up and running with SELinux fully enabled. I so far have figured out virtual hosting, vsftpd, and SSH to work with it nicely, but I can't figure out what to do to get AWstats to be viewable through a browser with SELinux enabled. This is what I get from /var/log/messages:

I got a machine with RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 installed. I set the ifcfg-eth0 as following:

when the machine rebooted, eth0 has the ip address 192.168.24.234. But if executing 'dhclient', eth0 will get the ip address 10.200.34.208, which is my expected ip address. I'm not quite familiar with networking things. I don't know what's going on there. Why should I need to execute 'dhclient' to obtain the expected ip address? Is there any way to obtain the ip address 10.200.34.208 right after host boot?

On one of my servers the "free" command tells me that a lot of swap space are in use. What I'd like to do is to determine which processes have been swapped out. I tried issuing "top" and sort by the "swap" column, but this doesn't seem to provide correct values - when performing the same excersize on another server with close to no pages swapped out, the sum when adding the swap value for each process greatly exceeds the swap usage reported by "free". So how do I go about determining the swap space used for individual processes?

Ok this is a problem that has dogged me for years but I was hoping it was fixed in 11.4. Using the acroreader plugin pdfs sometimes work but most often they result in a white or black blank screen and once one pdf has failed then they all fail until I restart firefox. It is a huge pain - under kubuntu I have used mozplugger to display pdfs with okular in the browser but this doesn't seem to be in the repos.
I don't think it is just me, all the people I know using suse seem to have this problem but it never gets fixed. how to get pdfs reliably displayed in firefox?

I can't get HDMI sound reliably when using Ubuntu. The strange thing is, if I repeatedly reboot the computer, eventually the sound will work. This can take anything up to 10 reboots. Once working, it will keep on working as long as the machine is not rebooted or shut down. HDMI sound works fine under Windows.
aplay -l will only list the Intel (analogue and S/PDIF) hardware, not the Nvidia, even when it is working. Selecting between analogue and digital output under Sound Preferences has no effect on the HDMI either way.
