Server :: Avoid Complete Web Site Rewrite

I've moved a web site from one server to another.I'm also moving the domain name to the new server.In Apache I've got the web site configured up and running with no problems. What I'd like to know if this is possible. I'm wanting to avoid a complete web site rewrite. I've looked into mod_rewrite but I don't think this is right.I only want the web site to look aesthetically pleasing. So if it's not possible so be it. (I'm not a programmer but do have access to the code)

Having to write my user password every time I want to do anything. I DO know I'm doing something risky for the system, that's why I have Linux. Is there a way to avoid to rewrite the password again and again, like start with superuser permissions?

i use ubuntu 9.04 with lamp and i enabled mod_rewrite module for apache2 so i enabled 3 sites on which i am working. their configuration files in the folder etc/apache2/sites-available are identic even their absolute paths. it'all identic except their names. Below there is the content of one of these configuration files:

I want to redirect [url] to [url] how to do this? The only solution that came up is just redirect everything to a php file, and than ask the php file do the redirect..... I want to do it using .htaccess file instead of using PHP or CGI.

In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?

I have been working on this for the last couple of days, but I don't seem to be getting anywhere with it.
I have a Fedora 12 64bit Server set up, and for the most part it's working Great. I have 3 VHost set up, and no problems with that.
My problem is I just moved my Wife's xcart store from Godaddy to this server. And the store works great. But xcart is set up to use Clean URL's, and this is what I seem to be having all the problems with.
In my "httpd.conf" file, I have "AllowOverride All" to use ".htaccess" and in xcart ACP I have it set to use Clean URL's. I added a ".htaccess" file to root folder, with this in it.

Then the whole site works just fine, just No Clean URL's. I'm at my wits end with this, don't know what else to try to get this to work. So I was hoping someone here might have an answer, or at least some ideas to try. This all worked just fine on GoDaddy's site, I left because it was just too dam slow. It took a minute and a half just to load the Home Page. On my server its less that 2 seconds. And every time I asked them about it, it would speed up for a few days then slow down again. But the same .htaccess file worked on that server. So I think my problem is in my "httpd.conf" file just don't know where.

I need to have a postfix server to rewrite the sender's address. For example, if the sender is: [URL], then the recipient would receive all emails from [URL] as [URL]. I tried using the generic file and created a table out of it, but this did not work:

I am running two boxes with postfix 2.3.3. and 2.1.1 respectively. Both need this configuration. I also added this line:
smtp_generic_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/generic
on the main.cf file. However, this did not work. The one running postfix 2.3.3 is on Centos 5.5, the other one is on SuSe Enterprise 9.

I have a registered domain that resolves (via dyndns) xxx.mydomain.com to my external facing router -easy no issues there. Behind the router I have several machines (some VMs) running webservers, mail etc... What I want to be able to do is redirect the external traffic based on xxx to the relevant internal machine and serve the content back to the external world.
I have tried using a http rewrite of xxx.mydomain.com to the relevant machine an it works fine from within my network, however externally the re-direct fails as the master DNS servers have no record of internal DNS setup in my network (obviously).
So is there anything I can do to get xxx. recognized externally? I'm only just starting to get my head around how DNS, HTTP, TCP etc all hang together. Am I barking up the wrong tree with rewrite? Should I be looking at proxys?

I have a base install of a LAMP server on my system, and I'm trying to get mod_rewrite working on that local server (the directory of the local site is [URL]. I added this to my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file, which was blank before I did so:

I have a website example.com, serving pages on port 80. I want the url example.com/redmine to be rewritten to port 3000, where my redmine server is running, without actually changing the URL. I'm trying to set up my web server (nginx) as a catchall virtual host, as per an example that can be seen here: [URL].. (It's the Wildcard Subdomains in a Parent Folder example). Now, here's my issue. I use Wordpress on the coburndomain.org domain. I have pretty URLs enabled, that make my Wordpress articles look like this:[URL].. At the moment, nginx is reporting 500 Errors, saying that index.php is not a directory. What I want to do is make a rewrite rule that allows me to use the above URL example with nginx.

I know it might seem a stupid question, but i'm gettin' nuts over avoiding webapp auto startup on Tomcat restart.i have a server, used for developing. Its tomcat has a bunch of webapps deployed. MOst of them are old/kept just for the sake of it, and I would like to avoid TC to start them on start / restart. How do I prevent a context to autostart on service start / restart?
I would like to go in the config files and selectively choose the apps to start. When tomcat is started, if anyone needs an app to be started, i would like to do it from the manager. But when I restart TC, i would like my choices to be up and running only.

I have a server that only runs durring the hours the house is asleep, to avoid bandwidth hogging. I know there are ways to prevent bandwidth hogging, but I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. My other goal is also to reduce power and cooling costs. My two computers between them make a very nice space heater in the winter, in summer they make it sweltering in my room.I'm sure it would be trivial to get the sever to power itself off every morning, but is it possible to get it to power itself on at bedtime? If not, I do have Wake on Lan working, is there a windows program that would allow me to send a wake on lan signal every day and then shutdown windows

I've set a two-node cluster using Pacemaker/OpenAIS. I have only one network and if I break this one, the communication between node is interrupted ... With a ClusterIP resource, when network is breaked, then each node start the ClusterIP => 2 same IP .. Is there a way to define the prefered location of a resource when connection between these nodes is broken ?

If one of the node lose the network, then follow a previously written rule : start resource on A (for example). B will know than it's not the prefered node and so, will stop to serve. Possible ? This is because if both node are connected, but a problem between these node occur and client can join both node ... then the split brain is problematic ... A better solution is to add a rule when the split-brain occurs : all node wich can't reach the gateway have to stop all resources ... And so, if it's A wich lose the network, service will start on B and only B without any problem ...

I am running a CentOS 5.6 Server with a website and Forum. The website has a contact form and users can email various people in the organization. I have setup sendmail to send any mails like this to my email address on a Windows machine.The problem is that there emails don't have a header which has the senders original email header. It comes from localhost on my sendmail. How can I get any mail generated from the apache site to ALSO send mail to root on the Centos Server? That way I should be able to see the header and report the spammer or block them.

I want to run Ubuntu Server Edition just at home, however to avoid having to reinstall it in the future when i upgrade hardware, I was thinking of virtualizing it first. I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables?
