Security :: Check Data Being Uploaded In A Firefox Connection To A Web Site?
Jul 24, 2010
I use Firefox 3.5.9 and Ubuntu 9.10.
There is a suspicious amount of data (more than a megabyte) being uploaded from my computer whenever I log onto a commercial web site on which I advertise rental properties.
Is there any way I can see the data being uploaded - I am pretty familiar with the Unix/Linux system and commands.
i was thinking that is there a way to check data flow for viruses? i mean if i set up calm av in my internet sharing server could it detect anything in incoming and outgoing data ?!!
Is there a plugin or some other way to check to see if a website has https available, and use that instead? I know some sites, like Wikipedia have a different hostname for SSL support while others have the same hostname, just What I would really like to seesome kind of header in the http reply or the html that saysSecureAvailable= is there any system like this in place? There's too many issues with with unencrypted http to continue having that as the default.
i am using ubuntu 10.4, i have attachedd my desktop screenshot , my problem is that i use no software that uses network but still OS uploads data from my pc, is it something to worry about my network security ? and is any way to check which file is using network and how much it is using. [URL]...
I was recently connecting securely to the website where I have my mail account, and I connected through Tor. When doing so firefox presents me with the screen saying that the connection is untrusted and it can't verify the certificate. So I cancelled. I'm using torbutton and I turned torbutton to off and connected again with no problem. Then with torbutton on again, same thing (untrusted).
Is it possible the exit node I was going through is doing a man in the middle attack? However later when connecting through tor I did NOT get the warning about the site being untrusted. I really don't know what exit node I was using when I got the certificate warning and what exit node I was using when I did not recieve the warning. I don't know how long I stay on the same node or how/when it changes.
At present I have to live with a 5Gb/month data volume limitation. Due to having to monitor this usage, I have been forced to use the software that came with the web dongle - and that means having to use Windows (spit!)
Can anyone recommend a Linux package I could download that readily shows how much data one has uploaded/downloaded over a set period?
my isp is putting a max bandwidth in my area and I need to monitor my downloads and uploads per month. Is there anything that has a gui that is easy to set up and just shows the amount of data downloaded and uploaded per month. Also if possible to do a pop up if you set a maximum bandwidth amount.
I just tried out setting a master password for Firefox saved passwords and compared the old and new (before and after setting the master password) signons.sqlite files. Although passwords were not stored in plain text in either of the files, I did notice that the files were exactly the same. Am I wrong in assuming that setting the master password did not encrypt anything at all, or am I simply looking at the wrong file?
Alright running a ubuntu based webserver. The app will be accepting user uploaded files from my client's clients. My client will then need to download an access the files. I'm looking for a solution to scan for windows malware at the time of upload so I never expose her machine directly to her client's uploads.
I'm looking for a powerful network traffic monitor that can do all of the following (or at least a combination of tools that can do the following):
Tell me how much data was downloaded/uploaded on an interface this month and the previous month tell me how the traffic was used throughout the monthshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) used how much traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs used all that traffic
Hhow LIVE traffic flow statistics that can tell me total speed of traffic going through an interface as well asshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) are using how much of the traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs are using that traffic
This tool will run on a linux router through which all my internal PCs are connected to the Internet. This means the tool(s) need to work with NAT (traffic being forwarded and not necessarily destined for the interfaced being monitored).
The distribution being run doesn't have a package manager so any packages or dependencies have to be manually compiled and SCPed over file by file. For this reason, the tool/tools need to be simple (things like vnstat, not things like ntop that have their own web interface).
I know that vnstat can tell me the first bullet point so it's only there incase there's a tool out there that can do everything. If there's a tool that can only do the second or third bullet point, that's great too - I'll just keep using vnstat and look for something else to do the other task.
I want to check my php script which contains php mail() function. But all the free hosting sites blocked the php mail() function because of spammers.I spend 5 hours for signing up in various hosting sites to check my script but none works. Is there a way to check whether a site allows php mail() function
I am trying to backup data files from a Debian Lenny server (in my office) to a second Debian Lenny box at my home. I was going to try rsnapshot configured for daily & weekly backups. My question has to do with access to the backup files. I can get into my hmoe server via ssh (specifically putty & winscp). If I need a specific file, is it easy to log into my home machine and simply find the file(s) I need in the directory tree? Is there some other (simple) method you would recommend instead?
At 1 of the computers I have a problem with a certain internet site. Maybe other sites give problems too, but I'm not aware of that. I get this problem with the following site [URL] At the other computers the site is interactive. Normally you could enter an address on the left and also place markers on the map at the right. On the other computers everything works fine. But on this certain computer, the site still indicates that it is loading, and nothing else happens.
I uninstalled flash, firefox, and java. I also remove the folders .mozilla, and .macromedia, restarted the computer, and installed firefox again. Then I installed macromedia flash and java. But when I started that certain site, the problem exists. At last, I installed Google Chromium. With this browser everything works fine.
I have installed a CLI ubuntu system and then installed gnome-session and all the applications I needed. Yesterday I have installed Firefox 6. Addons added are :flashblock, adblock + and noscript addons. Now the weird thing is that today while navigating on this site: [URL]. I get Godaddy Page.
A site belonging to the Savannah GNU free software archive was attacked recently, leading to a compromise of encrypted passwords and enabling the attackers to access restricted project material. The compromise was the result of a SQL injection attack against the savannah.gnu.org site within the last couple of days and the site is still offline now. A notice on the site says that the group has finished the process of restoring all of the data from a clean backup and bringing up access to some resources, but is still in the middle of adjusting its security settings.
I'm new to Linux and I recently decided to try out Ubuntu. I used the Wubi installer so it's on Windows (just to see if I liked Ubuntu) and it works fine, but with one exception: the internet (or maybe just Firefox) isn't working. The internet connection worked just fine on XP. On Ubuntu, it says that it was able to connect to the wireless network, but when I try to go to any page on Firefox it just keeps trying to load perpetually and never connects to the site, eventually just showing the "Server not found" page.
My question is how to block a subdomain of a site. To make it as clear as possible, I'll give an example. I am regularly entering this arbitrary site [URL] which redirects me to this page [URL] and this index.html takes an image from a subdomain which is a subfolder of itself, that is: [URL]. What I am asking is blocking the images to be taken, but not the main page itself, i.e. to block www.somesite.abc/images/ without blocking the overall www.somesite.abc.
My idea was to use the /etc/hosts file by redirecting to loopback address: Code: 127.0.0.1 www.somesite.abc/images But it looks as if it doesn't affect things at all. Should I use it another way? Modifying /etc/hosts.deny maybe useful?
I am trying to add any web site into the exceptionsitelist for dansguardian, but I get cannot edit the exceptionsitelist file located at:/etc/dansguardian/listsSo, I tried to chmod 777 exceptionsitelist I was told that:chmod:ging permissions of 'exceptionsitelist': Operation not permittedAm I trying to add a site as a whitelisted site the correct way?If not, how do I do this? Please provide details on if this is done in a gui? ( I don't have a gui or know where it is located at least )What is the gui called?Where is it located ( under which mean like administration or preferences etc. )If there is no gui, am I looking in the correct folder for trying to add a web site for whitelist?Am I trying to whitelist correctly by adding a web site to the exceptionsitelist folder?I want to bypass everything dansguardian does. I read about greylist. I do not want to do that
I'm using Firefox 3.6.10 for Ubuntu 10.10 with the smooth-scaling ppa (only addons I'm using are Firebug and the Ubuntu modifications pack).Several sites with navigation menus the menu is spread over two lines when it obviously shouldn't be (eg. The Telegraph online, BBC News...) this happens no matter what the zoom level is set to. Chromium renders all these pages normally.
i heard that if pam is denying the user and ftp is allowing the user the user can get the access it means that ftp conf file is stronger than host.deny
Occasionally my machine displays the following warning whenever left to itself for an hour or so. "www.windowsvistatestdrive.com:443 uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate expired on 09/16/2009 10:52 AM. (Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)"
I am not trying to access this site. It is not always the same url. My machine, described below, is networked to an XP machine which recently had to be recovered after a viral attack. Since I am not usually interested I decline to use the certificate and the warning goes away.
i have at least one site that don't look well in firefox in this site all the site is glued to the left side of the screen not the middle as it should be what can i do about it?
