I'm using Firefox 3.6.10 for Ubuntu 10.10 with the smooth-scaling ppa (only addons I'm using are Firebug and the Ubuntu modifications pack).Several sites with navigation menus the menu is spread over two lines when it obviously shouldn't be (eg. The Telegraph online, BBC News...) this happens no matter what the zoom level is set to. Chromium renders all these pages normally.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Apple iBook (ancient I know) and whenever I boot from the Live CD (Kubuntu 10.10) it boots up in 800x600 (as far as I can tell that's what it is). This would be a problem however it simplely leaves a huge black column on the right side and has a partially duplicated desktop below it.
When I go to display settings it won't let me change to a higher resolution (1024x768 is what the iBook natively runs at).
This is an iBook G3.
Im on an inspiron 5100 laptop and i wanted to try out the new GNOME shell and every time i launch it it takes a long time then does not display correctly at all. forcing me to restart.

My problem is that if I try to save some webpage in postscript or pdf format, I go to file>print>print-to-file option and choose output file as ps or pdf format. Now if I click to print, I do get the corresponding page saved in ps/pdf format but only the first page is printed(i.e., saved in ps/pdf format) this way, leaving major portion(may be eight pages for example) of the corresponding webpage unsaved. (the option: range of printing: all pages is chosen by default.) Why is this happening and what should I do to print the entire page? View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems that I have been running Firefox unbeknownst to me with a broken configuration. It seems that if I enable the Quote: Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above in Edit->Preferences->Content->Fonts&Colors->Advanced, pages will no longer be render properly -- they are mostly blank.When running on the command line, I notice that I get errors from Pango (whatever that is) and think there may be a connection.
I tried doing sudo aptitude reinstall libpango-perl libpango1.0-0 libpango1.0-common libpangomm-1.4-1 but it didn't fix the problems. (I haven't yet tried uninstalling pango since it looks like it removes some crucial components.)I also tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig and it didn't help.I'm guessing that the fonts cannot be scaled.This otherwise wouldn't be an issue, but it seems that some Firefox addons forcibly ignore the configured fonts and those pop-up windows are mostly blank/empty and therefore useless.

When i open the Browser FireFox and enter the URL http://localhost/TemplateSystemCore/bin/index.php no PHP Errors will be displayed. If i do Right Click View Source Code it is total empty.
I am using Netbeans to edit a PHP Project. The Project is located in /home/martin/NetBeansProjects/TemplateSystemCore btw. /home/martin/NetBeansProjects/TemplateSystemCore/bin
The Project is usein a .htaccess file with Rewrite Rules.
I edited the php.ini and set all display errors to On.
I also edided the http.conf and set display errors On. But nothing helped. Have anyone a Idea why my Brwoser isnt printing any PHP Errors? At least a <html> Tag should be on the Source Code. But its also empty.

I have tried, and I think succeeded installing this font. Geneva Font It seems to work and scale fine in AbiWord and and OOwriter, but it does not display in firefox, it is horrible. The above link shows a sample which is really very bad at all levels of zoom. This site (I think this is the same problem) is also terrible, until I zoom to a very large size, when it smooths out. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I right-click in firefox, or click on a folder on the bookmarks toolbar (which should drop down a menu of bookmarks within that folder), nothing happens.
Clicking on 'File, Edit, View, History...' menus also does not drop down a menu.
Shutting down firefox does not restore menuse, nor does logging out, or even rebooting the machine.
I think that I may be missing tool tips as well.

I'm not sure what caused this... I can't think of anything that I've done that might precipitate this, or even exactly when it started.
after a while, all my menus that pop up on Firefox 4 become unstable. When I go to click on the "file", "edit", "view", etc. buttons, they never stay when I go down the list. Also when I right click, the list will not stay either.
This is a bug that needs to be reported, so I am reporting it now. Hopefully we can get this problem fixed in the next update

open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)
these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.
I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
When running Firefox 4.0b13pre (2011-02-25) Minefield occasionally and suddenly I can't access any item in a drop-down menu. The menu appears but just disappears when attempting to move the mouse cursor into the drop-down items list. When the problem starts it applies to all menus. The only solution is to close Firefox and reopen when, of course, all is fine until next time. The problem seems to begin entirely randomly and I can't reproduce it at will.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen Unity is disabled, you can delete a bookmark from Firefox by right-clicking on the bookmark, under the bookmark menu, on the Firefox menu bar.When Unity is enabled, you cannot delete a bookmark from Firefox by right-clicking on the bookmark, since a right-click behaves the same way a left-click does. In other words, there doesn't appear to be any context menus.I reverted to the so-called "Classic desktop." There are other aspects about Unity I take issue with, but I will not go into them here.
If the Unity desktop is to be the default desktop for Ubuntu, then it must retain, at a minimum, mind you, the same functionality that was provided by the prior desktop. Access to an application's context menus is one functionality I see no good reason to forgo.
This has been happening sporadically over the past month. I thought it was a problem with 10.04, so I upgraded to 11.04 and it is still occurring.I can't seem to pin down a cause or something that I do to make this happen.Every so often, I will lose the ability to see right click context menus and I am unable to click on the menu buttons. Rather, I can click on the menu names (file, etc), but no menu comes down. I cannot use the keyboard to bring down the menu (alt-f, etc), but I can use keyboard shortcuts to do specific actions (ctrl-t, etc).I was using Firefox 3.6 and now I am using 4 and it is still occurring.

Update: I installed the same deb on another computer and that has nothing wrong. all the menus are listed fine.
I'm running 10.04 w/ Firefox 3.6.
Often, and esp after adding something with apt-get or Synaptics I find Firefox will lose the ability to display either pull down menus or a menu from a mouse's right button.
I've been doing some initial searches for a bug report on Launchpad (but it is unclear if it is being used to actively track bugs vs some other place).
My 'hit it with a hammer' approach to a fix, at least to this point, is to reinstall from the local store or cache, the application;

No files get downloaded, but a restart of Firefox and 'tada'; menus return.
Somehow I manged to mess up my firefox menu fonts.I'm running ubuntu 10.04, updated as of this posting's date.Please see the attached picture of FF (ugly, thin, menu font) alongside OpenOffice (normal menu font) on the same gnome desktop. Interestingly, FF looks little better on the screenshot than it does on my monitor. Something is seriously wrong.
Symptoms:It is only the FF menus that are affected, not the content of the pages that load, or the menu I get when I click on the window title bar (Maximise, Minimise .... Close)
No other applications are affected - all their menus are normal.
No other users are affected - their FF has normal menu fonts. So I am thinking it has to be some file in ~ that is messing this up.
I liked KDE3, but it seems that is history now, and KDE4 is not for me, so I moved to gnome. I am still getting used to it, but it's functional.All was well until I installed the KDE4 desktop, because I thought I'd "give it another try". I logged into KDE4 and ran it under my own username. I managed to open firefox, but that was about it. I logged out because although KDE4 is pretty, it's still useless for my needs.So I went back to gnome, and that's when the problem with FF first appeared.My mouse-pointer cursor has also changed. Instead of a "clockface" spinning when something is waiting, I now have two small circles orbiting an invisible point. No big deal, though it might be relevant.
Whenever I want (for example) save a file from the internet with Firefox, I can't because Firefox does not open the "save as" window of Dolphin. Also, when I want to save my bookmarks in Firefox, I can't because Firefox can not open the "save as..." window.
There is no failure message, no crash, just nothing. Like as the request is simply ignored. Any Ideas what might be wrong in my system? The system is OpenSuse 11.3 64 Bit with KDE 4.6 and all current updates.
This is a problem I had in Ubuntu some years ago that just seemed to go away; sporadically I will want to select a website by positioning the cursor over the drop-down arrow to the right side of the url box- after the list is displayed it will vanish immediately when I attempt to position the cursor over it to make a selection. Minimizing then maximizing Firefox resolves it.
A minor problem yes - but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.
At 1 of the computers I have a problem with a certain internet site. Maybe other sites give problems too, but I'm not aware of that. I get this problem with the following site [URL] At the other computers the site is interactive. Normally you could enter an address on the left and also place markers on the map at the right. On the other computers everything works fine. But on this certain computer, the site still indicates that it is loading, and nothing else happens.
I uninstalled flash, firefox, and java. I also remove the folders .mozilla, and .macromedia, restarted the computer, and installed firefox again. Then I installed macromedia flash and java. But when I started that certain site, the problem exists. At last, I installed Google Chromium. With this browser everything works fine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter installing proprietary graphics drivers for AMD A-50 APU graphics performance has been greatly increased. But two new problems have come up.
1. While playing video files clicking menus doesn't show anything, the video forcibly overrides the menus.
2. Videos always take the focus over other windows and applications.
For example, see the attached screenshot where actually terminal should come to the focus, but the video is overriding it.
I recently installed Burg on my three sig computers and like it very much. I'm having trouble on one of my desktops (AMD 9950BE Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64), I installed it like I did the other 2 but this one initially boots to the standard grub2 menu, and if I press "c" to enter the grub console and exit from it, Burg starts and works normally for that session.

My problem is they do not display properly. When I select them all the icons for the folders etc revert to the default Gnome ones. How do I fix this? They all have an index.theme file.
I'm new to Linux and I recently decided to try out Ubuntu. I used the Wubi installer so it's on Windows (just to see if I liked Ubuntu) and it works fine, but with one exception: the internet (or maybe just Firefox) isn't working. The internet connection worked just fine on XP. On Ubuntu, it says that it was able to connect to the wireless network, but when I try to go to any page on Firefox it just keeps trying to load perpetually and never connects to the site, eventually just showing the "Server not found" page.
