OpenSUSE Install :: Wireless Connection Disappearing With Login
Jan 13, 2010I installed openSuSE 11.2 onto an HP Pavillion dv5-1040 (openSuSE as only operating system), first from net and then from CD. Initial installation took place around 20 December, and is still going on (!). After much back and forth (installing Atheros 928x drivers etc etc), I was able to get the wireless network up and running (perfectly).
The PC was set up such that I would be logged directly in at boot. For security reasons, I wanted to have a login with username and password, and I was able to get that going (unfortunately). The side-effect was that I am no longer able to access the network! I have been extensively searching the net find a solution, but without success. I strongly suspect that the solution is to set one or more parameters in a script, but what parameters in what script?

May 5, 2010I decided to do a fresh install of 10.04LTS on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptopne wordDisaster I have no wireless or WIRED internet connection. After viewing another post I've provided the output of "sudo lshw -C network" command below (I've blocked out my MAC address on purpose). It appears that the lan card is not even being recognized. The card is enabled in bios (I've checked twice). I don't get it, the wireless worked fine before I did a fresh install of 10.04LTS. I can't use wireless because I have the b43 driver firmware issue that I can't resolve unless I get my wired connection working.

Jun 19, 2011So Ive got a windows laptop which I've tried dualbooting with linux from time to time, and I tried doing a clean install of 11.04 and I didn't need to do any configuration or download any drivers for my wireless to work, it works out of the box.The only problem is the connection will randomly get a weak signal and sometimes will drop for a few seconds, making web browsing or downloading anything quite a pain.What's worse is if you look at my other thread I tried this with a clean install of kubuntu but I couldn't even make the wireless connection work at all in kde.Here's the output of my lscpi:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Lost It - 'wmaster0 No Wireless Extensions', But Then Refers To Wlan0 As The Wireless Connection
Mar 28, 2010A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

OpenSUSE Install :: 10.3 Network - Configure Ethernet Connection Or Wireless Card
Oct 2, 2010I installed 10.3 (after buying it a couple of years ago and letting sit on the shelf) and can't get it to configure my ethernet connection or my wireless card. Yast doesn't include a list of available cards, and the error I get in installation-network setup is that the kernel isn't present. The machine I'm installing this on is a Lenovo, in which there isn't a discrete ethernet card (it's in the motherboard), but my wireless card (a Cisco LINKSYS 802.11G) is a discrete card. Because I'm divorcing Microsoft for a number of valid reasons, I don't have Windows available on that box.

Mar 21, 2011I'm running OpenSuse 11.4 with kernel (2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop i686) and KDE 4.6.00 "release 6".When I first installed the system the KNetworkManager found my wireless network. After entering my details it suddenly couldn't find it any more and hasn't found it since (even after re-install). My network is definitely working. I did try and set it up with ifup but it still couldn't find any network. Unfortunately I don't know anything about networks even less about wireless ones. Many thanks in advance.

I tried downloading the VirtualBox install for Suse Linux Enterprise Server but got the same error as when i tried install VirtualBox with the opensuse 11.1 rpm file. can virtualbox even be install on sled? (has anyone done it?) and if so where can i find pam-devil?

The connection list shows a lot of networks available, but mine is always absent from the list. Feb 4, 2010I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.
