Under RHEL4, I've mounted a drive (/dev/sdb1) under /home and it mounts with no problem a boot time since I have an entry in /etc/fstab. Using the same parameters under RHEL5, /home is a 'read only' directory. I've tried to add a 'rw' option to /etc/fstab, but /home remains a 'read only' file system.

I have a new system now running RHEL5 64-bit (The shared object libraries for the code are 32-bit) with an NVIDIA GeForce 295 video card that when I execute the code I receive the following error:

Can anyone give me any ideas on what could be causing this error? This really isn't my area of expertise unfortunately. I'm not the author of the code. Could I be missing some libraries or something along those lines? Let me know if you need me to post up more information.

The USB key boots fine to the point where it asks me to select a drive that contains the ISO images, but it doesn't show me the USB drive to select, only my 2 hard drives sda1 and sdb.
We currently use HP xw9400's with the following spec as shown in dmidecode:

I know that the xw9400's have the nvidia mcp55 pro chip on the motherboard that handles USB, keyboard, mouse and other peripheral traffic, so am wondering if this could be what the problem is? Like there may some code that i need to tell the machine to use this or something?

I've got an older RHEL4 system (2.6.9-34.ELsmp) which I am needing to migrate off of one LUN and onto another. My plan was to simply have the storage team assign me a new LUN and to setup LVM mirroring then remove the origional LUN. My problem is with the new LUN. I had to reboot to get the system to even see it. It now shows up in /proc/scsi/scsi but there is only one new device in /dev and I cannot even open the sd* device.. I can only open the dm-* device.

The IO rate is very very slow on internal hard disks and also on MSA storage.

How can i increase the IO rate. I have another HP Proliant server and there i can see 98 MB/s speed of IO which is quite good.
My X windows wasn't deployed in the installation at the beginning , but i need to install it now , my system is RHEL4 , i am not connected to the internet , so i will not be able to use up2date , so I need to use rpm instead.

So we have provided an option to login (via vnc)to the server on web application when we need. so how we can enable vnc for a session (like 30 minit)? I'm using default vnc installation while installing rhel 4 nothing more installed by downloading. When I click session button on web page, I execute this command from my code
"service vncserver start"
then I can access server via vnc but when I click on disable button on web page, I execute this command from my code
"service vncserver stop"
but still I can login to server via vnc

I am using RHEL4 server in my network. I have configured VLAN in my network. i am using two gatways to access my Network. I also add two gateways to both the network. but only one gateways will work. Then I added a route for the other netowrk. but when i restart my computer my route is deleted. i used this command to add the route
route add -net 10.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 10.0.0.1
what i should do that my route should remain permanent either i restart my computer.

I have already mounted the usb HDD by updating Kernel with mode 755 and root user. I can transfer file from usb HDD to rhel system. But I am unable to make directory or copy file from rhel4 file system to usb HDD with ntfs. It is giving error message of permission denied though the device having write permission. I have already installed ntfsprog-2.0.0 in root. But there is no improvement. Is there any thing I can do to transfer data from linux system to ntfs.

I am trying to setup Postfix along with dovecot on RHEL4. I have done the necessary settings in dovecot.conf, yet I am not able to log into the POP3 server. The error I can see through WireShark/Ethereal is "Err- Authentication failed" Some of the important settings in /etc/dovecot.conf are

The users/passwords are setup on Linux file system without MQSql or any other database. SASL etc is not configured at all.
