My X windows wasn't deployed in the installation at the beginning , but i need to install it now , my system is RHEL4 , i am not connected to the internet , so i will not be able to use up2date , so I need to use rpm instead.

Ive created a bootable RHEL4 USB flashdrive so that I can do my installs from rather than using CDDVD's. The USB key boots fine to the point where it asks me to select a drive that contains the ISO images, but it doesn't show me the USB drive to select, only my 2 hard drives sda1 and sdb.
We currently use HP xw9400's with the following spec as shown in dmidecode:

System Information
I know that the xw9400's have the nvidia mcp55 pro chip on the motherboard that handles USB, keyboard, mouse and other peripheral traffic, so am wondering if this could be what the problem is? Like there may some code that i need to tell the machine to use this or something?
just one month before i upgraded my pc to Later configuration but then i can't install rhel4 on my pc. i have heard there is a few upgrades (Updates) will help this issue, is that true? then which update i need to use for install rhel4 successfully on my pc? or is there any third part utilities for solve this issue? here i am adding my pc's spec

So I restore the image on a virtual disk and qand I restart I still have this problem :
I started in linux rescue mode F5 I reinstall Grub on sda
I modified the modules.conf file to change the BusLogic SCSI, but this module is not in the kernel I used kudzu to reconfigure it doesn't works...

That I am unable to find. There is no such directory as /usr/lib/mozilla<version no> in my system. But /usr/lib/firefox<version no> directory is present. I tried by copying the lib.so file in the plugin directory of firefox, but it is not working. Please can some body guide me which version of flash player I should install and hoe to install.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a RHEL4.8 machine, and I am trying to install the following libxml2-2.7.8 and libxslt-1.1.26 The OS installed versions are: libxml2-2.6.16-12.6 and libxslt-1.1.11-1.e14_7.2 I installed libxml2-2.7.8 and it appears to have installed successfully. However, when I attempt to build and install libxslt, it complains about some undefined references when linking to libxml2 which I believe are not in the old version (but do exist in the new one I installed). I am not able to erase the old versions and I am not able to update to the ones I want. I am at a dead-end at the moment and I am not sure how to proceed.

There is actually another problem with the computer which is "The Nautilus application has quit unexpectedly" everytime I open File Browser application or right-click>Properties a file/directory. This happen only after installing cairo and pango and I don't know how to revert to old version. Since there are a lot of log files so I'm very confused. Can someone give me a direction on how to resolve this?
We have done an installation on a blade server (HP) for RHEL4.5.
The server have an HP smart array 2200 controller and during installation it can see the controller and disks just fine.
The installation completes up to the point where the system needs to reboot , however after the reboot it does not start up again and get stuck at the message: "Trying to boot from drive c:"
We used the rescue option to mount the installation and cant find nythign wrong, even with the grub setup (except that it points to hd96 as its primary disk). we tried changing this to hd0 as well but still no luck.
After about 3 installations we are still not having any luck.
I've read that, when configuring a dual-boot system, you should install Windows first to avoid any issues.Some questions: I'm assuming this has to do with the boot loader so: How is Windows boot loader so different that this matters? If I'm totally off, please explain.Is this the same case with Windows 7 and Windows XP? Depending on question 1 of course: Will installing Windows later on mean that it will definitely not work or just that you might encounter issues later on? Some tutorials are kind of ambiguous about that point.

Under RHEL4, I've mounted a drive (/dev/sdb1) under /home and it mounts with no problem a boot time since I have an entry in /etc/fstab. Using the same parameters under RHEL5, /home is a 'read only' directory. I've tried to add a 'rw' option to /etc/fstab, but /home remains a 'read only' file system.

My plan was to simply have the storage team assign me a new LUN and to setup LVM mirroring then remove the origional LUN. My problem is with the new LUN. I had to reboot to get the system to even see it. It now shows up in /proc/scsi/scsi but there is only one new device in /dev and I cannot even open the sd* device.. I can only open the dm-* device.

The IO rate is very very slow on internal hard disks and also on MSA storage.
