Jan 28, 2011When I send mail via Evoultion it does seem to send ok but still the following error message comes up: Error while sending message. Failed to append to : Unknown error Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead. Not sure what's up with that but thought I would mention it.

Feb 4, 2010I'm running an up-to-date Lucid Lynx, full encryption with LUKS on my Eee 1005HA. Since yesterday, after booting, the only "X" is can see is the mouse cursor above a console-like text, saying:

So, I googled for the getpwuid_r thing. I found a blog saying to install nscd (did so) and run it. But: To my inconvenience, after every booting, I have to switch to console 1, log in, run "sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart" and then "sudo restart gdm".

My graphics card is: GeForce 7600GT MSI.

May 5, 2010I tried posting this before and I'm not sure what happened but I don't think it worked, so if it did please forgive the double post.am very very new to centOS and linux in general. I just want to setup a test web server that more closely mirrors our actual web server that is hosted by rackspace. I've installed centOS and tried to setup Apache, PHP and MySQL from a guide on the web using Yum. When I go to localhost in the web browser I'm able to see the default apache page. However when I create a php page it's just blank.When I look at the apache error logs I get this: PHP Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
I've been searching alot on the internet and I know the issue is permission related, but I don't know how to fix it. I've seen some forum posts that say you need to use the chmod 775 command on the /var/www/html folder.Currently when I do ls -l /var/www/html it returns

I'm sure that this isn't correct but like I said I don't know much about how to set permissions or who the owner needs to be. I've done alot of searching and seen similar posts, but no one seems to explain it clearly.

Aug 3, 2010Whenever I try to install Xubuntu onto my really old computer (not this one), it goes to a screen that shows nothing except the Xubuntu logo and the name. After a bit, my monitor falls asleep, and I am unable to wake it back up.If I press enter while at this screen, it brings up the error message in the title. The same thing happens with all the options I try to press.

I have made sure that I have all kernel-headers packages installed and am unsure as how to proceed. I tried using the command "./configure --build=x86_64" and then receive an error stating that the "SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED" and continued errors stating that gcc is not installed, eve though it is.

Fedora Installation :: Nvidia Graphics Driver - Error: GlXCreateContext Failed
May 8, 2009I am using fedora10 in my notebook. I installed nvidia-graphics driver as follows.

Then i installed kmod-nvidia with yum su -c 'yum install kmod-nvidia' When i tried to open NVIDIA control panel, i got a message that nvidia-driver should be configured. Then i issued the following command as root.
nvidia-xconfig. The i rebooted the system. Now in the boot menu, i see two kernel informations as follows
Fedora (2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.i686)
Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.PAE)
If i boot my linux with first one, x windows starts, if i boot with the second one (previously default), the x-windows is not opening. Why this happens? So i booted my system with first option in the boot menu. The system booted and x.windows started but i am not able to use any software that uses opengl window. The glxinfo command gives me the following error.

Jan 12, 2011I just having to do a fresh install and get the following message to close after setting up
partitions and on clicking write to disk:
Failed to mount "524M Volume"
Method "Mount" with signature "ssas" on interface
"org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" doesn't exist.
Only option under message is close button. I'm using Fedora 14 xfce 32bit live CD. The install seems to carry on normally until done but then when I check the partitions I've setup I seem to only have the origonal uneditted default partitions.

Jul 14, 2010I have a laptop with windows7 and ubuntu installed. When I installed Ubuntu it created 4 partitions (2 for swap and 2 for ubuntu). Yesterday, a friend of mine deleted one of the partitions (swap+linux) because they weren't being used (weren't even mounted) and he thought I could use the free space. I kept on using the laptop but today I had to reboot it. Instead of getting the usual grub menu I got this:

Sep 29, 2010i installed ubuntu 10.04.. all very nice, but not the os for me.. lightscribe problems, front ir panel problems. minor niggles for sure, but enough for me to go ahead with formatting and installing windows. simple job...or so i thought... using windows set up, i formatted c: and continued with install...on first restart i got a grub error saying unknown file system... i have tried loads of different things... fix mbr fixboot, that nt60 one. dban wouldnt work either.. im at my wits end ive spunked the best part of 1000 on this system and my wife is nagging me.

Everything has been working fine for a a long time but yesterday I tried to delete an unused partition through the Disk Utility in ubuntu (System->Adminstration->Disk Utility) and everything was messed up. I used to get the "Grub error: Unknown filesystem". I managed to create an ubuntu bootable usb and followed some tutorials for fixing grub but all i managed to do is to get another error: "Grub error: No such disc". After some experimentation i got
"Grub stage 1.5" which gave me a grub> command prompt./dev/sda is the drive containing Windows and Ubuntu.

Nov 18, 2010I am using Gstreamer for creating one of my video streaming application. My application creates multimedia session and then stream around 200 video sessions (a very processor intensive job).In doing so, the no. of threads created is around 1500 and I have given around 1536 KB as my stack size for each of these threads. I have one Quadcore(intel Xeon) system of around 8 GB of RAM(64 bit) with RHEL 5.5(kernel - 2.6.18-92.el5). After few hours of testing I see that my overall memory(RAM) is eating up. I did checked the memory and I saw that my cache size is growing. So far so good, as I can understand that system does cache instead of leaving some RAM free.
My problem comes, when I see that after almost 20-25 hours of testing, RAM is continuously being eaten up and maximum part of that is going into cache. If I leave the system for few more hours I see whole of my memory is consumed up and now my swap started getting used. If I check the cache now, I clearly see most of RAM is now in form of cache. I still didn�t stop my application and allowed it run for few more hours and after sometime I see that process give segmentation fault while creating the pthread (create_pthread::unknown error 513).I also tried to observe the �core� file of application created in this way , but it doesn�t� show anything.
One thing I must mention that, in �top� I see almost constant values of resident memory, virtual memory and shared memory. There is no increase of memory usage here. So here I can assume that my application is not leaking the memory. I also observed that if I kill my application any time during this, the memory doesn�t go into free pool. Anyone, here can give any pointer for this kind of behavior. Is it can be because of some kernel BUG which is not freeing the memory to application usage.

I downloaded the .iso then used the "make startup disc" feature in my Mint 9 desktop machine to make a usb install disk. All appears well at that point. When I try to boot from the usb stick, I get an error message as follows:
