I installed an Apache web server on Fedora 13. My website is built on PHP. When I try to access the web servers particular directory it take too much time to load.I have added index.php in DirectoryIndex statement also in the httpd.conf file. The home page of my sites has 150 kb image file.
View 2 RepliesI have a multi user system for my roommates and myself that has separate folders for each of us. I've got user authentication working with samba, but unless I set every file and folder readable/writeable by all users, I can't browse it or edit the files.This isn't ideal as the shares are open to other users access, so I'm hoping there's a way to keep folders at 750 and files at 660 while allowing samba users to browse, delete and edit.Also, the samba share is actually a mounted NFS share from another server. Both the NFS server and the Samba server have the same users/uid's. When a file is created from a Windows host via the Samba client, the NFS server's permissions do show that the correct user owns the files, but since the files aren't mode 666 but 640 I can't edit or delete the file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am completely stumped. Found my web server (lighttpd) unresponsive this morning and had to hard cycle it. After some cleaning up, all was happy. However, after about an hour of handling a decent amount of web traffic, time freezes as far as the web server is concerned. I've got an hour of access.log data with the following date: [23/Aug/2010:20:42:58 -0500]
It never changes. The load average now reads 0.00 0.00 0.00 (which is totally inaccurate). And I am not able to successfully log in remotely. I have taken the server down 3 or 4 times today and after an hour or so of functioning normally, this is what happens. Additionally, the local time is now off by 30 minutes.Trying to force with ntpdate does nothing (or, at the very least, sets it to the same incorrect time)

i want to allow some friends to ssh/sftp/scp into my system but i only want them to have access to my external hard drive (/media/externalHD/), and i dont want them to be able to delete or add anything, only download.i have found instructions on how to limit a user to his/her home directory and thought about just creating a user with the home directory /media/externalHD but idk if this will work and im afraid i might make a mistake and delete 800gb of 'files'

EDIT: I changed the permissions of the "folder" folder itself, I can access everything in that directory now but not any other folders in it. Do I really need to go through every folder every time and change the permissions?
I have Ubuntu server 11.04 (LAMP, SAMBA) installed with the ubuntu-desktop interface (I am not yet experienced enough to run without it).My problem is I am trying to share the www directory through samba so I can edit the site, but no matter what I do I get errors when I try and access the directory form the other machine.I did add it to the smb.conf file, and it does show up fine on teh network, however, when I try and open or change the contents of the directory it says I am unauthorized.I tried:

View 1 Replies View Relatedconfigured /etc/sysconfig/vncserver, used vncpasswd as the user im trying to log in as to set passwd, disabled firewalls, set chkconfig --add vncserver but still whenever i try to connect to the vnc server I get "unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)". If I run the "vncserver" command as my normal user, I can connect fine then. This really wearing on me, any help is greatly appreciated. It is weird if I try to stop vncserver it says [ok] and then if I try to stop again it says [Failed] but if I check the status of vncserver it says Xvnc is running..

I suspect it has something to do with my Authentec AES2501 fingerprint reader. I need it to work for my project, but it's not working, even though it works fine in the Windows 7 installed on my system.
Can anyone shed some light in this? Using Fedora 14-64, new install, 185 Opteron x 2 gig ram, sata hard drives formatted Ext4.However, in my home directory I have a folder for all my digital photos of which I have more than 20,000, and in another folder I have images and clipart of which I have almost 8,000. That is a lot of read only access to a significant number of files in my home directory.
How can I tell Fedora to not update the LAST ACCESS TIME of those files (specifically images) that will never actually be changed other than just being read. I want to leave that feature enabled for the rest of my home directory. I am trying t; improve my disk performance in Nautilus because whenever I access the folders with my images the system literally slows to a crawl and sometimes even the mouse stops working for several minutes until Nautilus has finished having its heart attack.
Is it possible to run 2 web sites on the same server at the same time? I want to test MediaWiki on the box that currently hosts my MoinMoin web site but I don't want to disable MoinMoin.MoinMoin is public. MediaWiki would be accessed strictly from inside my home network. No public access.

My setup is as follows: Fedora and Gnome - NFS system, No dual boot (Windows or anything) Fedora ISO DVD downloaded No kickstart or other tools. how to set this up, from the time I insert the disk and have it boot up (configged already to boot from it). I know how to wipe it clean at intall time. Is that the root directory? And, is /boot the actual boot directory? I'm just having a hard time uderstanding that. As I said, I just want a quick itemized list, step 1, step 2, etc, from partitioning, creating file system, mounting, etc. in the right order.

I have configured apache on my Centos 5.2 and it is working well. I want to have a sym link of my docs directory in /root/ in the apache root directory. I used ln -s command to create this sym link. But when I tried to access this I get the following error:
You don't have permission to access /docs on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
How can I access this directory in apache. i use apache 2.0.63.
On RedHat 5 64-bit.I have a group that requires read-only access to the /var directory.I believe someone mentioned SGID and ACL stuff, and I've been researching this solution, but I wanted to check with you all first to ensure there wasn't an easier way to do this. I have several file servers in our offices and I am relatively new to Ubuntu / Linux. I get notices that there are updates for the server software from time to time. Is it typical to update everything when available or should I follow "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." mentality?I would hate for everything to be working fine and then have an update throw me a curve.

But the last about 6 weeks the system time only in Ubuntu is going slow. About -8 per 24 hours! I can only guess because I have more things running in my Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
I can set it right by coping the hareware time to system time with this command:

Recently I mounted a larger partition into my home directory since I was running out of space, Everything went smoothly, but it caused me to wonder about something I cant figure out. While playing with the mount unmount commands when I was copying everything over... before editing my fstab.
Is there a way to access the files that existed in a directory before you mount a partition to that directory? after mount the original files are gone.unmount and they are back, Where do they go?

I have a Fedora 10 box I am using as a web development server. I have most everything working. I am trying to use sendmail as an MTA for sending out emails and I am having problems having the messages delivered. The error always comes up as connection timed out. I have attempted to telnet to many different MX server on port 25 from the Fedora box and each time I try I never get a connection.
This made me think that it might be something with ISP doing port filtering to prevent SPAM or something, however I can telnet to port 25 from different computer on the network. I also have stopped IPTABLES in an effort to try and resolve this issue and am still getting connections timed out.
I have run TCPDUMP while trying to telnet to port 25 to an MX server from the Fedora 10 server and all I see are out bound packets. I also explored the idea that I might of had some kind of weird routing issue on my firewall. I am currently using a Juniper NetScreen 5GT with an ANY/ANY outbound rule. I do not currently have SMTP open on the firewall as I am not planning on accepting mail here.
The best I can figure as telneting to port 25 from windows computers on the same network as the Fedora server works just fine, yet it does not work from the Fedora Server is that it must be some thing on the Fedora box itself, but I have no clue as to what I could be.
I have a home server that I'd like to put into standby for a specified period of time (like from 1AM to 9AM) daily. How could I make this happen, so that it goes to sleep and wakes up automatically?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 13 sucessfully and rebooted my computer for its first run of Fedora. When it comes time to load the desktop I only get the desktop and nothing else. I noticed that my mouse can run off the side of the screen on the left or right. I've tried rebooting and the only thing that changes is which side the mouse runs off.

chcon -R -h -t httpd_sys_content_t /www
I checked the new settings with ls -aZ and the changes apear to be fine.
apache apache unconfined_u:object_r:httpd_sys_content_t:s0
But I still get the same message on my boot.log file.
I am using the default CVS available in Fedora 9. I initiated the CVS server by

To check-in and check-out the following exports commands are used

I shall explain problem by taking an example. A project was checked in long before (for example the checkin date is 25 Feb 2010). And today (i.e. 21 June 2011) I checked out the project from the repository. After checkout, the date of the project in the repository is changed from 25 Feb 2010 to 21 June 2011. This date is set to all the subfolders in that project. But the files in the project retains the checking date i.e. 25 Feb 2010. Why the check-in dates are getting updated/changed to the system time after doing check-out.
I was transferring some files from my laptop (running FC6) to a server at my work (don't know what kind) with "scp -rpC" and it stalled, don't know why.
Now when I try to delete the files from the server so I can start again I get the following error message
