I just got my desktop set up with Ultimate Edition, an OS based on Ubuntu. For more information on my OS, please click: here. I am using UE version 2.6, which is based on Ubuntu kernel 2.6.32, so any Ubuntu users.I've gotten my wireless usb keyboard and mouse to work fine, and my speakers are ok, so I know my usb hardware is working properly. The Situation: I can't get my new ASUS USB-N10 wireless adapter to work. My computer hasn't recognized it, and there are no usable instructions on the driver CD for installing the device in Linux.ASUS claims this adapter works on Linux systems with 2.6-type kernels, but I've been trying for 2 weeks to no avail.

I currently know next to nothing about networks in Linux (yes I am working on that). I have just brought a Asus n13 wireless adapter after failing to get my laptop wireless working. I am using the 2.6.32-5 Debian squeeze kernel. The device connected once after I did the following:
apt-get update
modprobe rt2870sta
iwconfig
ifconfig wlan0 up
The device connected to wifi and was working fine. I then shutdown and rebooted to see if it would automatically connect on start up and now, although nothing seems to have changed and even after I repeated the steps above it did not connect. The network manager applet as well as listing the asus adapter(as ralink 802.11 WLAN) lists a Texas instruments PCI1410 pc card cardbus controller which i didn't before.
This is the output of iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 Ralink STA ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2870STA"

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0

This is lsmod | grep rt2:

I recently purchased an Asus n10 wireless usb adapter to use with my media server, running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx). After spending several hours today with many of the threads (especially this one about the Asus n13) it seems that I've run out of ideas.
My network is running a hidden (non-broadcast) SSID ("Potato") with wpa2 personal encryption.
Here is the relevant information from lsusb:
Code:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0b05:1786 ASUSTek Computer Inc.
Iwconfig follows. The rest of the values, like link quality & etc, are all zero:
Code:
wlan0 802.11b/g ESSID:"Potato"
Mode: Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate: 0kb/s
And the kicker is that the interface doesn't seem to be available, despite the above reports. ifconfig wlan0 up produces:
Code:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Resource temporarily unavailable

I am running Fedora 14. I've had an ASUS wireless adapter working for a few months now, with no problems. Today, I installed updates, one of which required a computer reboot (not just logging out and back in). I rebooted the computer, and when it came back up, the wireless adapter did not work.The adapter is visible after lsusb, but there is no wireless showing after iwconfig. What happened? How do I fix it?

Running Ubuntu 10.04 Unable to get Ubuntu to find the ASUS USB Wireless to connect for network. I got the Broadcom to work using ndiswrapper but the range on it is unbearable meaning I have to be in the same room as the router. Hoping this has a much better range.

I just got a new Asus Eee 1001P, and the wireless isn't working at all. I had an Asus EEE 1005HA before that and since both use the AR8132 network card I hoped it would be the same problem as with that, where installing the backports fixed the problem. However, that doesn't do anything. With the 1005HA the connection was only flaky and disconnected a lot, but the 1001P doesn't find any networks to connect to at all. Also, the mobile wireless will connect only once and after disconnecting every attempt to reconnect ends in that connection symbol spinning wildly until I tell the network manager to disconnect. On Kubuntu it doesn't even connect once.I never had that problem with the 1005.
Code:
$ lspci
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)
02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. Device 002c (rev 01)

1. Installed a fresh 10.10 and upgraded all packages (via Ethernet).
2. Downloaded latest drivers from ASUS webiste (DPO_RT3070_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.2_20100422)
3. Unpacked and tried to compile:
The wireless card is working with the driver rt2870sta, but I've read not all the capabilities of the device is unleash unless the native driver is used.

Tried startup with device connected, no success.
Read some threads which generally correspond to version 2 of the device.
It probably uses Ralink chipset(cmiiw). I neither have Rt73 nor prism2_usb installed, confirmed by lsmod.

I'm trying to install a Linksys WUSB600n dual-band USB wireless-N adapter onto a desktop system with opensuse 11.1 installed; this system will be migrating to a back porch with no cabling access, hence the wireless solution. Everything works fine under Windows XP, but on Linux, not so much. Hardware info is as follows; there is no "Wireless LAN" entry, but there is a USB entry:
99: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1737_71_noserial'
info.subsystem = 'usb_device'
usb_device.vendor = 'Linksys'
usb_device.bus_number = 1 (0x1)
linux.subsystem = 'usb'
usb_device.product = 'Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter'
info.product = 'Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter'

I can't post messages, I think something is wring with my internet.Anyway, I'm gonna copy paste what I've been trying to say...I just bought the TP-LINK Model No. TL-WN821N. It's an atheros. And I was wondering where can I find the drivers for Linux. It only includes drivers for Windows.
I don't have much experience with networks,I found this website,
http:[url]......
I got stuck in the patch section, I don't know what they are trying to say. They are using
diff -urp compat-wireless-2009-02-22_AR9170_230209/drivers/net/b44.c compat-wireless-2009-02-22_AR9170_230209/drivers/net/b44.c
They are comparing the same file, there is some code they are showing but I don't know what they want me to do.

I'm trying desperatly to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Asus Eee netbook. I've created an USB bootable stick. It boots. I get to the screen where I can choose the language and where I have the choice between "Try" or "Install". I choose Install. After that, I get to the screen about the preparation of the installation. It says I have enough disc space, that I'm successfly connected to the power and to the Internet. I click on next and... nothing happens! It stays for ever on that screen.

I haven't been able to find anything really useful on google either. Was hoping you guys could point me somewhere or explain a process that might work. What I've tried so far is downloading the driver from ralink and trying to follow their procedure for getting it setup. Following the readme I get lost at step 3 and attempting to make it, I get:
[boardbox@niflheim ~]$ cd Desktop/2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0
[boardbox@niflheim 2010_07_16_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0]$ make
make -C tools
[code]...
but this hasn't fixed my problem either. I can see networks but I can't connect to anything, so kinda still stuck at square one.
EDIT: Turns out in frustration and absent-mindedness I didn't reboot and that fixed it.

I have a desktop PC which initially had the Intel D946gzis mobo, its chipset as video controller, some RAM and so. There I installed Debian without a problem alongside WindowsXP.
I've bought an ASUS HD 4670 video card, installed it on the PC and now the installed Debian does not work, while the Ubuntu live CD refuses to run no matter if I set acpi, apic on or off... it throws me some low memory corruption at position just like shown here. With normal configuration, Debian throws kernel panic (keyboard lights blinking). Anyone have faced this before? Ideas? Thanks!! (meanwhile, debian hides in a virtualbox :'( )
Edited: Tried Ubuntu 9.10 x64 (due to the fact i've a core2duo at 2GHz) and it throws a kernel-panic to me (flashing caps and num LEDs). On screen, can be read different lines with things like:
[ 1.957161] [] rb_erase+0xd6/0x160
[ 1.957266] [] page_fault+0x25/0x30
Could it be something about this new video card having ddr3?

Just upgraded to a super sexy Asus 27" LED monitor. It's awesome, however ther are a few quirks I'm wondering if I just have to live with or if they're fixable. These may not be directly related to the monitor...hence posting here rather than hardware.Specs: Asus 27" LED VE278Q monitor. Nvidia graphics card. Dell 8100 w/ 8GB ram, 64-bit. Fedora 13 running Gnome.
The first quirk is that I have a VNC window open almost all the time and if I leave my cursor on the VNC window, the screensaver won't come on, even if no action has happened on the keyboard or mouse (or in the VNC window). It would be nice if the screensaver worked.
The second problem is that when I'm using the keyboard and/or mouse in the VNC window, apparently, the screensaver doesn't realize the keyboard is being used...and the moment I switch to a different window, up comes the screensaver.
I'm having what I think is a documented hardware issue probably related to the Nvidia driver: at infrequent times, often when I'm using GIMP or other graphics-intensive program, the screen will flicker and/or go completely black for a split second. Distracting as all hell, but not a show stopper. It does not appear to happen when I'm using the web or doing other non-graphic intensive stuff, so I'm guessing this is not the monitor itself, but rather the card or the drivers for it.

I'm booting from disc on a compaq presario F700. Somehow, I messed everything up and now it's not reading that I have an OS. Which was previously vista. Now, when I boot from disc and try to install no partitions come up. I did open the blasted thing to clean it not too long but as far as I know, nothing dislodged. It is a laptop, btw. So, my kneejerk reaction is that the hard-drive got damaged or knocked loose. I also tried using kill-drive to erase it so I could start fresh, also no Hard drive detected. So, I'm going to try that. In the meantime I have another issue. When booting from disc I can't seem to get the drivers for my wireless adapter to install. I have them. Madwifi for AR5001X but I don't know where to put them via terminal.

I have been struggled with wireless connection. Here is the things... My room doesn't have moduler jack. So basically my landlord is sharing with his wifi. Also, my desktop is using Netgear wireless adapter for internet. My laptop and desktop are windows 7 which can conncet with internet very well. But my Linux Os in my desktop couldn't conncet. Recently I installed ubuntu because my co-worker told me ubuntu can be applied to connect with internet through wireless.
However, how can my ubuntu os get wireless connection without ethernet cable. Actually, my harddisk drive is multiple boot containing windows 7, Ubuntu, and Centos. Windows 7 can connect internet smoothly. But you know, Ubuntu and Centos can't do nothing. So I am stacking this situation not to connect internet through Linux OS right now.
My Netgear USB adapter is WG111US.
