So I configured the /etc/samba/smb.conf ,but it did not work well : Windows can find samba,but when I tap in username and password,samba request them again , and the same thing continues in a loop. So I copied another computer's smb.conf (which is also a Fedora 11,samba runs well in this one).I copied this file to /etc/samba/ ,then samba can't satart up . I read from /var/log/samba/log.smbd.log : Unable to open configuration file "/etc/samba/smb.conf": Permission denied Even if I use: chmod 777 /etc/samba/smb.conf

Fedora Security :: Make The Root File System Read-only
Jun 23, 2009I am interested in making the root file system is read-only. I've moved /var and /tmp file systems to another partitions. There are two files in the /etc directory that need to be writable.
These are:
I've moved this files to /var and linked it. I've added command to the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file:
That's it. Are there other solutions to make the root file system is read-only?
Fedora :: GRUB Error 18 - Couldn't Read Configuration File
Apr 5, 2010I'm playing with Fedora 12 and can't get GRUB to work. To boot, I've been using GRUB4DOS. While that works fine, I'd like to figure out what's wrong with regular GRUB 0.97. After the initial installation, GRUB came up on reboot, but it was broken -- it couldn't read the config file apparently, and no commands would work correctly. So I attempted to reinstall grub via the grub prompt. No matter what I do, or which hard disk I install GRUB on, I get "Error 18". I tried using the "grub-install" command as well as the prompt, and that did the same thing.
My system here is an ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO mo/bo. I've got four hard drives. Two 1TB SATA drives and a couple of PATA drives (300 and 500GB) on a Si608 controller card. Using the BIOS "BBS" boot menu, I can boot NTLDR and BOOTMGR off active partitions on any of the drives (with proper Boot.ini modifications to handle the change in drive order). GRUB4DOS works as well, and will boot Fedora 12 correctly off any of them (with proper menu.lst ministrations). But GRUB 0.97 that comes with Fedora just refuses to do anything other than say "Error 18".

Jul 21, 2010I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? The file "my file" cannot be moved to the trash. Show Details Unable to create trashing info file: Read-only file system
So when I click on delete I get another error message:
Error while deleting.
There was an error deleting Case Study Database. Show Details Error removing file: Read-only file system
At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.

1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).
2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

Various chmod commands all result in Read-only file system. I tried umount then mount commands, but it couldn't find it to mount once I'd unmounted it using the same /media/ file path (I assume it's the only one).

After a hiccup or two I have managed to get a system of sorts running but on trying to copy files from my old computer(via a memory stick) it tells me that Vfat is an unknown file system.On my old computer I am running 32 bit openSUSE 11.2 as a dual boot system with Windows XP and have no problems moving files between the two different file systems.Is it possible to get a 64 bit file system to read 32 bit file system drives and if so how do I do it?

Apr 27, 2015I've downloaded a cbr (comic book) file. But I couldn't manage to read it. Tried built-in Document Viewer, Comix and mcomix. Nothing worked. Document Viewer says the file is full of empty pages, others show broken paper instead of the images. But when I unpack it, the images are normally unpacked. I can't attach it because I get an "Internal Server Error". I can however upload to somewhere else if you want to check the file.

Jul 5, 2010i log in and went to the policy folder to erase the file prefernces.fdi and it would not let me delete this file /move it to the trash or even edit it it said something like you are not the owner ,so i could not change the permissions to overwrite this file.what should i do i just want to be able to change this file to true so it will see my internal sc dar reader right now when i put in a sd card it does not show up.i also tried changing this in the terminal there was a post on one blog that showed how ,but i was having trouble edit the xml file in the terminal so for me it would be easier to just overwrite the prefernces.fdi file since im a beginner.

There are a number of Compose files under /usr/share/X11/locale/[LOCALE]/Compose. What configuration determines which of these files, if any, is read? Where is the syntax and semantics of the Compose files defined? What error log will contain errors relating to them? Where can I find the search path for Compose files? How/where can I see currently loaded shortcuts?
