View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got some trouble trying to format a SD card. I tried to format it in the GUI and the terminal, but couldn't make it. I couldn't even copy or move any file to the directory in the SD card, even logged as root.
It's a SD card from a digital camera. When I insert it in the camera, it says the card is blocked, so that it's not possible to take any picture.
I tried using "fdisk" to set a new fyle system in it, and tried "mkdosfs" trying to format it under the current file system.
Is there a Linux command, or a series of commands, which will allow me to get the permissions of a file in "0644" format?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Rhythmbox to transfer songs to my iPod (nano 1st gen). I installed Mediatomb the other day so I could stream music and video on my PS3 (which is awesome btw). Unfortunately, using Mediatomb my PS3 would only find a small portion of my music collection. So I ran Code:sudo nautilus then right clicked on my music folder, and changed the Group category to "Create and delete files" under the Permissions tab. After, my PS3 found my entire music collection. Great. But now in Rhythmbox I get an error about the mp3 files being read-only and can't transfer them to my iPod I've tried reversing the steps (with and without 'sudo'), but no luck. Under the File Access section of Permissions, I can never change anything (like to "read only" or "read and write"). No matter what I choose it always stays at "---"

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to set up a server with attached mass storage device and tape autoloader to run linux. It's set up under Windows at the moment. Goal is to have users, connecting from individual workstations and laptops, backup their data to the linux server. On their personal machine, some users run linux, some MacOS, some Windows. I plan to set up the 5 500 GB drives as RAID5. I understand that if setting up as software raid the format is "physical volume for RAID". Under this setup, will Windows users be able to read/write and function as expected? I can't assume only linux user access.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
I used to be able to write to my SD memory card but just recently it is being automatically mounted as read-only. I checked the read-only tab and tried to set it to the lock position, and to the unlock position. Neither position makes a difference. It was working normally a few days ago. I also tried changing the permission using su
ls -lt gives the following result
drwxr-xr-x 4 col root 16384 1970-01-01 01:00 CANON_DC
chmod chgrp and chown in su mode don't change anything either.
I tried mounting a different 1GB SD card and it works perfectly. I noticed that when I mount this card I get a window asking me what I want to do, but I don't get this on the other card. It must some kind of setting related to the unwriteable card.
I am using F10 2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.i686
What are the possible problem when Windows access the file from Ubuntu got Read Only even though have a full permission to read, write and execute the file? Ubuntu to Ubuntu accessing the file there is no problem only Windows got a problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe last I knew, there still didn't exist a VNC Viewer program for Linux that has UltraVNC or TightVNC file transfer. Is this still the case? I've looked around and so far I haven't found a Linux client that supports either Tight or Ultra file transfer. For example, we are currently connecting to Windoze servers that run UltraVNC server. It would be nice if the Linux VNC client could support file transfer. The alternative is to run the VNC viewers in Wine but I'd rather use a native Linux one if there is such a thing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 PC ( one have Fedora 8 and other have fedora 10 )
I want to connect them directly through CAT5 cable and want to transfer files from one two another (without internet) ...
this is all on LAN.Whenever I transfer files through the router A to a pc connected wirelessly, the internet hit the speed of molasses. What can I do to rememdy this? I was thinking about having my fedora box connect wirelessly to the internet, through router A, and then bridge via ethernet to router B and then have my pc always connected to router B, so when i transfer files, router A remains unaffected. Is this correct logic?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem trying to transfer large file (~700MB) from one station in my home to another. I have 3 PCs hooked up through a router. 1 is wired to the router and the other two are wireless. One wireless is a laptop that has a built-in Atheros wireless card that was supported during the FC13 install. The other wireless has a plug-in wireless card made by Belkin (F7D1101). I had to use ndiswrapper to get it to work on FC13.(BTW all PCs are running FC13)
The one with the Belkin card is, I think, the problem. The one with the Atheros card will transfer files at a rate of about 8MB/sec to the one with the wired ethernet connection. The one with the Belkin card will not transfer at rates over 300KB/sec to either of the other two PCs. I have tried file transfers both encrypted and not and it makes no difference.
All my torrents go to my home/username/Download/ folder, I could read/write yesterday but now I cant even copy the files to a flash drive. The error i get is "Cannot create regular file '/home/username/Download/file' : Read only file system.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a ubuntu server 10.04 with LAMP installed. I also have ubuntu 10.10 on a laptop and can copy files to the server fine. To keep my website uptodate, I usually use Filezilla without any problems. I have just installed Fedora 14 on an old desktop and set up "my stall" ok. The problem is that I cannot copy any files from Ferdoa to the server due to:-
Response: 550 Permission denied.
Error: Critical file transfer error
I have tried to change the directory on the server "/var/www" using chmod -R 775* and chmod -R 777*, but it makes no difference, the file transfer still fails.
This works fine for most libraries:
Code:

I got some documents scanned today and had them put in a USB drive. The shopkeeper informed me that it has a virus, yet he transferred the files onto the USB drive. When I put it into my computer ten minutes later, the drive was not getting mounted. I read up and tried installing usbmount. After installing that, I managed to mount the drive. However, the drive was read-only on Ubuntu. On Windows, I found a virus and tried unsuccessfully to delete it (read-only). I tried again on Ubuntu, but didn't manage to delete the infected file (ReCyCleR/sEtuP.exe). I have now backed up all the files on the disk (except, obviously, the ReCyCleR directory). When I try to format the drive using gParted, I get:

I temporarily have no internet, but i have access to a computer that does. i want to put fdupes on a flash drive and transfer it to the computer without internet and install it. my command-line skills are 'ok'.
I already checked the synaptic for the program and the box is not checked, meaning that it (fdupes) is not installed.
Below is results from attempt at formatting my hard drive. As you can see a driver is installed, but not working. Perhaps something is missing? Seems a bit odd that a "unable to read" comes back when disk data is reported. The drive just went through a low level format. BTW this is a fiber channel drive. Also on board are 5 scsi drives. Adaptec raid card. Not sure if that would have any relevance, but there you are.
