Programming :: Redirect Console To Telnet

Jun 4, 2010

My hardware is the FriendlyArm mini2440 Samsung board. I run our main application from init.d/rcS. It uses printf's to display continuous program debug information that can be seen on the serial ttySAC2 console. I would like to be able to remotely view this information by a telnet connection when needed. What is the best way to accomplish this? The telnet user can possibly activate some script or program. I saw there is a ttysnoop program that I could not get to compile.

There must be a simpler way. There must be several ways. Instead of using printf I could do something else. I do not want to use a normal log file to the flash file system. I had thought of using a ram file in /var directory but it would complicate matters as I would need to limit its size and the telnet user needs to view the program's printfs in a real time fashion.

Networking :: Socket Programming - Connect To Port Y On IP X With Telnet

Sep 16, 2010

I have a customer who is complaining that they can connect to prt y on IP x with telnet. They are seeing the following:

telnet x.x.x.x y
Trying x.x.x.x...
Connected to x.x.x.x.
Escape character is '^]'.

after some time the connection of course times out. Connection closed by foreign host. There is no telnet service running on this port so they cannot do anything, but they are complaining tht the fact that telnet "connects" is a security risk. I am having difficulty explaining why they are able to connect with telnet. I know it has to do with the socket layer API in Linux but I am having difficulty explaining this sufficiently. I also can't just say "this is the way linux works" to them. I am looking through "UNIX Network Programming" by W.

Programming :: Telnet: Connect To Address 127.0.0.1: Connection Refused

Jul 21, 2010

I want to create script wherein it will check the application if its running. The command that I'll be using to check the application is telnet (if you can recommend others, that's ok). I've an application and it is listening to port 1808. If I do telnet localhost 1808, the response is :

Code:

[root@test ~]# telnet localhost 1808
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused

What I want to happen is if the response is like to code above, it will execute a commands. Obviously, above code knows that the application is not working so I need to execute a commands. I created a script before using expect but I don't think it will work because I haven't establish a shell yet unlike successful telnet I could spawn expect.

Server :: Telnet To Smtp Server Is Closing Immediately?

Apr 18, 2011

I've configured postfix on my linux server. For the most part, I got everything working (IMAP, apache, etc) but for some reason, I can't get postfix to work remotely. Postfix works locally to send mail. E.g. when I telnet locally to port 25. However, when I try to telnet from outside, the connection closes almost immediately. I've looked at various configuration options and tuning enhancements but found nothing helpful. Here is my config:

Code:

main.cf:

#See /usr/share/postfix/main.cf.dist for a commented, more complete version
# Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first
# line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default

Server :: Cannot Telnet To 25 But Can Do It To 22

Nov 9, 2010

I just setup a server using Ubuntu 10.04LTS Desktop edition. I am a novice in these things. I was able to setup the SSH server and it works from outside my LAN quite well. I can telnet to it also with 22. I have then setup an email server. I can do telnet to it from the server itself but from the internet it just times out.

I did netstat -nlp and it shows that it is listening to port 25. I have port forwarding for 25 enabled on the router. I cleaned up all the rules of iptables and iptables -L shows everything is accepted.

Programming :: TCL Expect Script That Spawns A Telnet Session To A Nortel - Response In Expect_out Is Not Consistent

Dec 2, 2010

I have a TCL expect script that spawns a telnet session to a Nortel DMS100 to execute some commands. The strange thing is that the response in expect_out is not consistent. It sometimes contains a extra enter or newline. This results in differences in the expect out buffer. Here is a part of the script:

send "time
"
sleep 1
expect -re ">"

[code]...

This command displays the time. The correct output should be (with log_user=1):

>time
Time is 11:44:04
>

But sometimes the output is:

>timeTime is 11:45:04
>

As you can see here the is missing on the command that expect sends , or at least in the echo that is comming back. I use a split command to filter out the response in the expect_out buffer, but this fails when the is missing. Here is a example with the debug enabled:

[code]....

I suspect it has something to do with a slow response of the switch. I tried to send the time command slow and with the send_human but the result is the same. A timeout between the send and expect also doesn't help.

Programming :: Redesign Existing Mysql Db In Php?

Apr 13, 2011

i inherited 200 tables in a mysql db from each of the 200 table there are table created on php pages

the information is organized pretty much the same (fields) in each of them, so i dont see the point of having so many different tables

i wanna redesign the db, in 4 tables each of this 200 table have a few essential characteristics, like: table name is (version_country_type), ie: v8_de_pro, v8_de_std, v9_uk_pro the fields are: No, Document_file, Document_path, ISBN, Book_Name, Subtitle, Status, Year_issue, Author

i will need to break the table name, and put each part in the new redesigned 4 tables separate fields...
ill have something like:

id, version, country, type, Document_file, Document_path, ISBN, Book_Name, Subtitle, Status, Year_issue, Author

but i have no idea how to do it i know i cant do it in mysql... so ill need to build up a php script which will need to read every table, and drop it in the new format:

table1 called Main: ID, version
table2 called Cat: ID, IDmain, Country
table3 called Sub: ID, IDmain, IDcat, type
table4 called files: ID, IDmain, IDcat, IDsub, Document_file, Document_path, ISBN, Book_Name, Subtitle, Status, Year_issue, Author

I picked this one as it requires not only a file name, but some other options. I've run into no support adding things to menus. When I updated one of the Debian versions, I lost the shutdown option from the name menu that used to be there. It was suggested that I right click and pick that option to restore it, but I get the same as the left button on that menu.

Programming :: Adding New Selections To The Existing Script?

Mar 19, 2010

i have two scripts called:

"type" & "selecttype".

In "type" i have only the name of the products ex.: product1 & product2. Now, i have to ADD product3 which includes sub categories: productA, productB, productC, productD, productE, productF. so my New type script (menu) looks as below:

1) product1
2) product2
3) product3

and my current selectype looks how can I add the new product3 argument with all other multiple selections (productA, productB, productC, productD, productE, productF) into my current selectype (as below which is set only for product1 & product2), so when a user select: 3) product3 from "type" would get a new menu of all the sub categories, and the script would process the new additional arguments.

Here is the copy of my selectype script:

#!/bin/sh
echo SELECTTYPE
export -n selecttypechoice
if [ "${upgrade}" == "yes" ] ; then

Programming :: Making Existing MS Excel App Web Based

Jun 7, 2010

I have a LAMP based web hosting account (BlueHost). I have an existing simple MS Excel application which I would like to make it web based. However I am not sure what tools or features of PHP are out there that will aid me with this task. Here are some details:

1. I don't want to create an entire Excel program online. For that there are plenty of existing applications like Google Docs, MS's own online version of Excel, etc.
2. My current excel file uses some of the following excel functions:
a) SUM
b) Product Sum
c) Conditional Formatting (like changing font color if an amount is below a threshold, etc.)
d) Sorting (Date, Amount)
e) Drop Down Box to select pre-defined values

3. Ability to add/delete/modify a entry (row)
4. I don't care whether the application has the same look-n-feel as MS Excel.

As you can see it is a very simple home grown excel application with few basic mathematical functions. Here are some few thoughts that I have currently in my mind:

i) Just start coding intuitively as you would develop a normal web based application.
ii) Do (i) but use some of the PHP's excel oriented helper functions (COMs?) if there are any
iii) Use completely a different set of tools permitting that they run on LAMP environment.

I could have started with (i) but before making a costly mistake I thought I would get some opinion from the community to see if this is the right approach.

CentOS 5 :: Easiest Way To Mirror Existing Server Setup On A New Server?

Jan 13, 2011

We have two CentOS 5 servers in production (web and database). We are setting up a single staging server that will mirror the configurations of these servers as closely as possible. What is the easiest way to ensure the exact same software and configs as the production servers are setup on the new staging server. Our contracted data center provider has already informed us that they do not perform images and NO we do not have physical access to the machines. It is undetermined whether we will be virtualizing the staging server into two virtual servers yet, so for the purposes of this post lets assume we are not. I'm seeking a faster/more precise method than doing this by eye and hand.

Some information on our web server code...
