Programming :: Write A Bash Script To Time Some Downloads From A Server Using Ftp Connection?
Jun 8, 2010
I write a bash script to time some downloads from a server using ftp connection. ( something like: "time ftp 'options' ) I need to count the time for a list of files in a loop and output the result in a file.
I have been looking for a script example of reading and writing to the parallel port's data, status, and control registers using bash. I see it done in pascal, tcl, etc. but nothing in bash.
I am trying to write a bash script to call from a terminal that will change the terminal title. I am using ubuntu 10.04. The script is meant to be used in the gnome-terminal.
Here is what I have:
Code: #! bin/bash echo "New title: c" read title echo "33]0;$titl07c" -e
[Code]....
it doesn't work
I think the problem has to do with modifying PS1 inside the bash so i tried this:
Code: echo `export PS1="[e]1;u@h:wa]${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}u@h:w$ "` and it still didn't work.
In my tmp directory some logs are creating continue (with name logs.txt1, logs.txt2 up to 245). Some times these logs are creating continue within 1 or 3 second gap, now I want to write a bash script that continue monitor the tmp directory and if any time logs create simultaneously within 1 or 3 section gap it will alert me..( generally logs are create with the gap of 5 or 10 minutes duration or some time after one hours )
I have a bash script that checks for contents in a folder every 15 seconds and then acts on it's contents. This works great for the average size file however on very large files it starts acting on the file before it's completely written. Is there a facility in bash shell to get a file complete signal or such? here is trigger to launch a larger script.
Code:
#!/bin/sh while true do $HOME/bin/hpgl.sh >/dev/null 2>&1 &
I'm planing to write a bash script that will make some web stats reports and I'm stuck on beginning because I don't know how can I read a directory content, put everything in a variable, compare the variable value with current date and go further.More specific ...
I have /var/apache/log/. Here I have access logs on date ( like access.log.24.06.2010.gz and so on ).
How can I do to automatically zgrep (in a bash script) last day .gz ??
I have a folder of 2 many files that the old ls just hangs.
I am trying to write some log files such as;
I don't mind doing one at a time, but I am just playing and even getting the listing I am not getting the date stamp, I have the following;
That does create the file, but all the files look like this;
So basically it's just sticking that ls inside the log file and not actually running the ls, so how can I use the above type to get files just created per year?
I am trying to write a bash script that sources another bash script. Essentially, I need a few lines to check to see if a certain variable is set. If not, I set it manually, and then source a scripts with that variable in the path. I wrote a test script to try it, but for some reason the last line does not work. Here is what I wrote:
#!/bin/sh source ~setupdir/setup.shrc #just a test, this line works echo ${#SETUP} # prints 0 if setup is not set, which it isn't if [ ${#SETUP} -eq 0 ] then SETUP="~setupdir" fi echo $SETUP # prints ~setupdir
I'm trying to write a bash script program in the Linux command terminal that will write to a fellow user and then continue reading down the program. this is what i have (kind of explains the idea too):
#!/bin/sh
clear echo "this is before the write command" write jcummins this message should go to jerry echo "the message didn't send and this string will not appear" echo "it appears it has stopped at the write command"
I am trying to find a nightly backup if it was successfully copied over, rename it and curl, but it's always passing the check even if the file is older than specified. From the command line it does as it should. Example is here;
Code: find /backup -type f -mmin +4440 -exec echo "found" {} ; - nothing returned (good). Then I change the time
I have a bash script that is tracking ERROR connections (running in a cron every 15 minutes), sometimes the errors are true and are not connecting. But most of the time, the disconnects/reconnects are between 30 seconds are sending out false positives. I am looking for a time comparison code to pick out the 30 second disconnects and know that this is and "ok" error. Here is a section of the log with timestamps, errors, etc.

I have scowered the internet for the answer to this one. I need a script to rename multiple files to the same exact name, run a program on the file then do the same for the next file. We have a unix backend system that is expecting to load the file with the filename of cards.in So I will have files named card.2009xxx, like i said i will have around 4 or five of those. I want the script to rename card.2009xxx to cards.in, run our unix program on cards.in which inturn changes the file name and once complete i want the script to rename the next cards.2009 to "cards.in"Until there are no more left in the directory and the unix program has processed all the files. All of this is occurring in the same directory. I have written some scripts but they fail by moving for example cards.200901 to cards.in then immediately moving cards.200902 to cards.in and that is not good because it is overwriting valuable data
I move a page from a server in SuSe to Debian and this script was working well but when I move the page to a Debian base server it is sending in the logs the following message:
cat: write error: Broken pipe, referer: [URL]
The cgi does the following, read a db file plain text that repeat each 15 lines an information where to look the seraching info. if it is there sends to the output the 15 lines block. but it was not sending errors in suse distro, does anybody knows why the cat's line are sending "cat: write error: Broken pipe," if I am not writing or making a pipe with ">" to none file.
I am using a perl script which uses curl in the background to download files from rapidshare premium,one file at a time. I wanted to know is it possible to use curl and spawn multiple connection at a time,to download the same file in multiple parts?? I don't seem to find an option in curl which does that.
I need a script that I can run on an hourly basis that will:
1. Calculate the total downtime since the first date 2. The overall downtime percentage 3. Store this data in a file at /home/bla/file.txt, in the following format: TotalDowntime=03:02:02 Average=0.01%
Iam using socket programming in one of my problem. The scenario is like this.
=>one module is working as a socket server(process p1) is able to handle client sockets on that port. =>one module is working as socket client (process p2) is connected to server socket and Tx/Rx data on this socket. This module has some more threads, based on received data from server socket it will connect to http on other thread and get information... =>one more module is working as socket client (process p3) is also connected to server socket and doing some other transactions.
Here my problem is when in presence of p2, p3 http connection taking more time than the expected. If we wont start p3(means only one server-client socket) then http connection is fast enough.
I'm starting to like making bash scripts. It's kewl making creative ones. Right now I'm trying to make a bash script that will open up port 23 for a netcat connection. Once there's a connection, I'd like for the script to open up xmms and play a sound effect, as well as echo a txt file to the desktop saying that a connection was made at this specific time. When I execute the script, it stops exection at the first line. So far I have this:
I am using ubuntu 8.04.When I install software from internet then files are downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives so i keep those debian files in safe place so that I can install that software on another stand-alone computer.
MY question: When we run 'apt-get update' for first time after fresh install it downloads some files. Can i store those files & point to them for a networkless computer which has no internet ? If this is possible it will allow me to 'apt-get check' on stand-alone computer to see if any package is not proper.
I create a bash script that writes another bash file. But in the generated bash file I want to write a bash command in the file and not executing it.Here's my bash file:
Code: #!/bin/bash cat > ~/generateGridmix2data.sh << END
I need a download manager that automatic start download at 2 a.m and stop in 8 a.m . I test many app such as fatrat d4x .... but can not find app like idm in linux.
I wanted to know how can I set a period of time to a tcp connection to wait for request or respond for tcp block read. which system call or function I can use? Does any body know a very simple quick and easy reference on web for socket programing that has lots of socket programing examples in it?
I got an error while working with NetworkManager in new RHEL6/ Fedora14. I have a ZTE AC 2726 3G wireless modem. i had tried to connect it via NetworkManager . It only requires username and password to connect but the thing is that after putting all the credentials i had checked the option" available to all the user "and while i was trying to save the profile it shows the following error saving connection failed 0 can't write connection type 'cdma'I had google so many times around this error but no better solution is there .
Since the upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze on my Notebook Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 with Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG I have wireless connection problems.The connection breaks time to time and sometimes cannot connect automaticaly after restart. BTW I didn't change anything on the wireless or network configurations on the notebook and on the wiereless router.
In the right upper corner of your screen,you can see if you have a network connection or not.Most of the time I do not have one according to Networkmanager (?).So I have to enable my wired connection manually.I already tried a lot to change my settings so I would have a network connection at boot,but it doesn't seem to work....Firefox is in Offline modus when I logon..
