Aug 25, 2010Which is better for my needs? how to use Git and I like it and don't think I'd want to use anything else.
I like the way SourceForge lets your project have it's own website. But all those "Unix names" are taken and I don't like the idea of having to give my project a terrible name because everything is taken.
Also, I keep hearing the way people say GitHub is so great, but what *are* those advantages?

Dec 1, 2010I first created a fork on github from an existing git repo. Then I made changes to my fork and pushed them to github again. After that the person from who I forked included my changes in his code but made some alterations on it. What I want to do know is having the exact code he has in the repo. This way I am sure that I actually develop on the same code.
I wonder how I should do this. I tried using git mergetool but I had some conflicts. So if I resolve the conflicts and make some mistake here, then I still wouldn't have the code the original repo(the repo where I forked from) has. what is the correct way to do this?
Debian Multimedia :: Cannot Connect To Github
Aug 18, 2015I am running debian testing (stretch) with gnome-shell 3.16 and iceweasel 41.0b1 as the only browser on a laptop with a dual boot setup ( windows 10 pro 64 bit is the other OS). I am running firefox 41.0b1 in windows and I am able to login to github with no issues at all. I have set my ip address manually as well as the dns settings on both operating systems.
The issue is that I cannot connect to github when in debian. I have tried changing the ipv6 and dns settings in about:config with no success and also tried a different user agent profile but still no luck. Whenever i log on to URL.... i get the message "Iceweasel can't establish a connection to the server at github.com.... " I seem to be able to connect without any issues in every other https site so far.After changing my ip settings under gnome-network manager all is fine and github up and running again

Jan 23, 2016The github site has a .deb package that I would like to use but the package is not in the debian repository. I am not sure how best to go about installing it. I think my options are to click on the .deb file and download directly to a directory or I could look at somehow finding the file in a repository. Also, I think there is a way to use aptitude or apt-get to download directory from the website. Are there advantages/disadvantages to the ways mentioned?

Jul 27, 2010I had Linux Mint installed and it became subject to random freezes. The system was never under any serious strain at the times that this occurred. I went to the Ubuntu forums and discovered that this is a relatively common problem with Ubuntu and that there's no fix available. I tried almost all advice offered there, without any remedy. These included disabling Flash, Java, Compiz, Nvidia drivers etc etc.
I decided to try another distro. Since then I've had random freezes in Suse, Sabayon and even with a Fedora live disc. Oddly enough, I never have this issue with Win 7 (I dual boot). If this is a hardware problem, why does it never occur under Win 7? If it is, as I suspect a hardware issue, how can I identify the source of the problem and resolve it?

Ubuntu :: Sabayon User Manager Launchers Not Trusted?
Jan 30, 2010I'm working on setting up a computer lab for my kids' school, and am planning to use Ubuntu LTSP and Sabayon User Manager to lock things down.
When I edit a profile in Sabayon, and create the default desktop icons I'd like them to have (Firefox for example), when the user logs in the icon is generic and when clicked says:
"The application launcher Firefox.desktop is not marked as trusted. If this application launchers source is unknown to you then it may be unsafe to launch."
If I click "Mark as Trusted", the Firefox icon pops up and all is well. However whenever a new user logs in, they have to go through this process and I'm worried it may confuse them.
Why are application launchers created by Sabayon not trusted by my LTSP users?
Ubuntu 9.10 by the way.

May 4, 2010I'm in the process of trying Sabayon 5.2. After the initial install, I had 800 packages to install to upgrade - went very smooth - but on re-booting, the auto login was gone. No problem, I reset using 'run command' 'kdm' and the 'convenience' screen. Checked all the correct places, and re-booted - no auto login, and I can't get it to 'stick'?

I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. Feb 4, 2010Im trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

Jun 4, 2010I've been all afternoon trying to install Ubuntu Lucid on my fakeRAID 0 configured (2) HDDs and am unable to set GRUB up. The fake RAID setup is provided by Intel Matrix Storage Manager, it is correctly enabled and the BIOS is also correctly set up -- in fact, I've managed to install Windows 7 with no significant hitch. After struggling with partioning the drives (had to follow advice I found on a very helpful guide online [0]), creating the filesystems AND getting Ubuntu's installer to actually do what it is supposed to do, I now cannot seem to set GRUB up. My system, as it stands, is unbootable at all; via live CD only.

Jul 8, 2010Im trying to set up my workflow to a terminal-based setup, so that accessing my computer through SSH will provide many of the things I need and use right off the bat. I have Mutt working great with my GMail account, so that's good. I do have a question though. Using the application Calcurse (featured on Lifehacker a few days ago, [URL] I am at a loss to figure out how to interface with Google Calendar. Is there a trick that Im missing, or does anyone know of another terminal app that plays better with Google Calendar?
Also, I was looking for a 'Digital Clock', essentially, again, a terminal/text based large print clock; similar to the one in the lower left corner on the attached pic. I was looking for a telnet server from the Atomic Clock, but no such luck so far.....
CentOS 5 :: Boot Setup From Partition That Is Formatted During Setup
May 5, 2009Here is a thought experiment:
1. Copy vmlinuz and initrd.img from isolinux subdir into /boot
2. Adjust grub.conf to boot to that kernel
3. Reboot to setup
4. Format /boot (actually '/' ) during "fresh install"
5. Proceed with the installation-over-network
I see two possible outcomes:
1. The setup fails to reformat the drive, because it is "in use" by boot kernel
2. The partition is not "in use" and the installation succeeds
Why? Old cluster with broken CD-drives, lacking USB, and no separate /boot partition.
