Which is better for my needs? how to use Git and I like it and don't think I'd want to use anything else.
I like the way SourceForge lets your project have it's own website. But all those "Unix names" are taken and I don't like the idea of having to give my project a terrible name because everything is taken.
Also, I keep hearing the way people say GitHub is so great, but what *are* those advantages?
I first created a fork on github from an existing git repo. Then I made changes to my fork and pushed them to github again. After that the person from who I forked included my changes in his code but made some alterations on it. What I want to do know is having the exact code he has in the repo. This way I am sure that I actually develop on the same code.
I wonder how I should do this. I tried using git mergetool but I had some conflicts. So if I resolve the conflicts and make some mistake here, then I still wouldn't have the code the original repo(the repo where I forked from) has. what is the correct way to do this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running debian testing (stretch) with gnome-shell 3.16 and iceweasel 41.0b1 as the only browser on a laptop with a dual boot setup ( windows 10 pro 64 bit is the other OS). I am running firefox 41.0b1 in windows and I am able to login to github with no issues at all. I have set my ip address manually as well as the dns settings on both operating systems.
The issue is that I cannot connect to github when in debian. I have tried changing the ipv6 and dns settings in about:config with no success and also tried a different user agent profile but still no luck. Whenever i log on to URL.... i get the message "Iceweasel can't establish a connection to the server at github.com.... " I seem to be able to connect without any issues in every other https site so far.After changing my ip settings under gnome-network manager all is fine and github up and running again
The github site has a .deb package that I would like to use but the package is not in the debian repository. I am not sure how best to go about installing it. I think my options are to click on the .deb file and download directly to a directory or I could look at somehow finding the file in a repository. Also, I think there is a way to use aptitude or apt-get to download directory from the website. Are there advantages/disadvantages to the ways mentioned?

I know that Sourceforge banned Iran, and I'm an Iraninan citizen. It seems the error is related to a file named : andale32.exe . I downloaded this file. but I don't know what to do with the file. When you click on the tarball link for "Moby Thesaurus II" it takes you to a sourceforge page with many different versions of StarDict itself, and not the dictionary/thesaurus package.tell me if I'm just missing it on the sourceforge page, or does anyone know a place to download a good thesaurus for StarDict?

Groovy is an object-oriented programming language for the Java platform. I do not have experience in Java, only perl and shell scripts. i have a server program which accept multiple client connection and am using polling. like every 2 secs it will look to client whether any data is received after it binded. i have used setitimer but there is runtime error i got.. the server accept all client connection but doesn't execute any msg which client sent.

We have documents on multiple workstations and want to collate them into a single repository to provide text search and download. So far we have implemented rsync to copy files from each workstation under a directory for each workstation on a server (incidentally providing a backup) and have set up text search using Xapian with Omega; users access it via a web browser. Still to do is to set up a system to copy files from each workstation's area on the server to the repository.
Many files are duplicated. In these cases we want to preserve the names but keep a single copy of the file;hard links can be used for that.For each file to be copied from a workstation's area into the collated area we need to check whether it is a duplicate (file size and, if same, MD5 sum) and if so, create a hard link to the original rather than create a copy.A system to detect and replace duplicates in the collated area has been written using ruby and postgresql but the developer cannot commit to continuing this work. It does mean we have a postgresql database populated with "fingerprints" of files in the collated area.My first priority is to get the system working; in the longer term whatever is developed must be maintainable; I do not yet know which language skills are available locally.
I am fluent in bash and competent with awk. Ruby looks nice but I have started to learn python and do think it prudent to learn both at the same time.
